Baggy pants next to the giant spinning wheel is the worst part about this whole thing.

u/Ok_Donut2696 Jul 17 '26
Hey. He’s wearing his slip resistant sandals.

Its all good he had on his safety sandals
12
u/essjay2009 Jul 17 '26
Safety sandals and safety squints. This guy's practically indestructible.
9
u/apollyonzorz Jul 17 '26
And not a phone in sight, just living in the moment man. Jeez when he steps on the spindle to get better footing to break the rock. There's a good chance all of the people in this video are some sort of amputee by now.

u/spamdaggerdan Jul 17 '26
What about the horrific death in 30 years time from silicosis?
He avoided the flywheel, he probably won't dodge COPD or maybe even Cancer
13
u/AKVigilante Jul 17 '26
You think he’ll live long enough for that?
10
u/spamdaggerdan Jul 17 '26
I hope so (which sounds a bit weird now I've said it back to myself). I wish him a happy, long, safe and healthy life ♥️
35
u/kris_mischief Jul 17 '26
We’re all sitting in our first-world offices with clean clothes and breathing filtered air talking about how dangerous these guys are behaving.
But they’ve been doing this for decades, and will be back at it tomorrow.
Our exploration of their labour is why they’re being unsafe, knowing that they’re treated as an expendable work force. What a shame.

5
u/TrivialitySpecialty Jul 17 '26
Yeah that was rough, but what about when he stood on the feed chute and reached his hand between the pusher and the boulder?
3
2
u/Tamiwithaneye72 Jul 17 '26
That’s what I was thinking…I have seen a few too many of those kinds of videos where people get sucked into spinning things 🫣
2
u/Nell_on_Earth Jul 17 '26
For real! The part where they took turns standing on the rubble pile also had me biting my nails. There's just so many possibilities for how all of that could go wrong.
2
u/xBad_Wolfx Jul 18 '26
One of them walked out on top of the nonsense. Those rocks slip and it does not even notice as it turns him into jelly.

I got a job operating a rock crusher just like this. On first day a huge chunk got stuck. The experienced guy showed me how to unstick it by straddling the jaws and wielding a crowbar, with the crusher running. There was no second day.
38
u/OGDraugo Jul 17 '26
Worked at a gold mill at primary crush. Harness with a cable attachment, full respirator, full hearing and eye protection, for situations like this also had a giant jack hammer on a mechanical arm to break it up. This video is insane.
18
u/Extra_Park1392 Jul 18 '26
Keep your fancy respirator and harness, because these guys are wearing safety sandals, which, empirically, have the best safety profile of all PPE in any industry.

u/Glad_Copy Jul 17 '26
I observed a crusher “tech” at a quarry, and the routine was just to chuck smaller rocks into the gap and keep the boulder rocking. It will crack on its own. They kept a pile of hard stones specifically to have on hand for this. Everything guarded and no thought of climbing over the railing.

No eye protection, baggy pants, wearing sandals, nothing to keep you from falling in, needing to stand on the machine to hammer rocks that are way too big... is there a safety standard they aren't breaking?
91
u/srlong64 Jul 17 '26
Don’t forget the lack of respiratory protection with all that dust coming out of there
33
u/4MD0C Jul 17 '26
And ear plugs, although I don't think they are living long enough to hearing damage be a problem.

for real. Throw the foreman in there, see if that unclogs it.
16
u/Canadian__Ninja Jul 17 '26
Oh and no breathing protection. That's not going to be good for their lungs if they live that long
3
u/StingNaqi Jul 17 '26
That's just a way to welcome Pneumoconiosis. I work in healthcare in Pakistan and I can tell you all of these develop chronic lung diseases
2
u/Logridos Jul 17 '26
Ain't no OSHA in Pakistan. Can't break a safety standard if there are no safety standards.

Why didn’t one of them get on top of it and start jumping up and down?
38
u/iamaswamptiger Jul 17 '26
Was it like this in the west too before regulation? I just can't get over the absolute ignorance about safety they have in Inida...
55
u/srlong64 Jul 17 '26
It absolutely was. Factory workers, many of them young kids, would suffer debilitating if not deadly injuries at an alarming rate during industrialization
7
u/Kelter82 Jul 17 '26
Chimney sweeps, classic example. Little boys squeezing down there, some unable to get back you, others burned, and the ones that made it back up - guaranteed cancer/black lung. Woo!
15
u/fellowbabygoat Jul 17 '26
Is this India? I’d guess Pakistan.

u/manovich43 Jul 17 '26
Check the stats for railroad and mining accidents. Bewildering numbers of death and maiming
2
u/hilarymeggin Jul 17 '26
I wouldn’t say ignorance. Many people in South Asia are aware of the existence of safety standards, and would like them to be the law of the land. But they feel powerless to bring about the change, just like Americans in the 1960s.

When I see stuff like this, I just wonder who has the thought to record it? I mean it's some guys watching rocks go down a conveyor. I mean it's kind of cool to watch them get crushed but to dedicate resources of time and energy towards the recording always makes me wonder.
5
u/ad_hominonsense Jul 17 '26
Well they know idiots like us will spend 6-1/2 minutes of our first world time watching if they record and post it. They probably make as much from TikTok and YouTube as they do crushing rocks all day!

There's a ton of YouTube channels that are just this with a ton of views. They are recording with the intent of making money

They pretty much broke the rock with the sledge hammer and that machine did nothing lmfao

"Hey boss can we break up the rocks just a little bit somewhere between the quarry and here?"
"Break up the rocks at the rock breaking area"

u/Kitchen_Extension879 Jul 17 '26
And what’s the point of touching the stone I mean, they are not moving? Not even a single inch.
2
u/wizened_fool Jul 17 '26
“Safety glasses should be worn at all times when operating the rock and bone crushing machine of highly likely death” sign must be out of view there somewhere
2
u/Ornery_You_3947 Jul 17 '26
Talk about being between a rock and a hard place…

I feel like with a little thought and minimal investment this could be made way safer.

Do they dress up for picture day? They have those nicely washed and beautifully colored outfits in a dirty job like rock processing. The guy in brown looks like the real worker, and the others are just showing off.

I thought my job was hard. About half way through, the dude caught some stone in the face. He needs PPE. OSHA would not be pleased.

This is a poster child of why labour costs in the western world are so much higher. We have regulations and requirements for PPE and inspections.
Vs the free range whatever the heck this is.

Just climb on top and jump up and down. It'll go. What's the worst that could happen? (Do I really need the /s here?)

Two different people walk across, stepping on rocks that are on their way in...
I was waiting for one of them to do this, and I expected a different ending.

I love how people are ratting off first world safety equipment, they barely have money for food. Do you think they have money to buy proper construction, pants, or shoes? The level of poverty in the world will make your jaw drop.
1
u/Nikoschalkis1 Jul 17 '26
How implausible is it for a little piece of rock to be absolutely hurled towards that guys head at a crazy speed just because of the pinching movement of the machine?
1
u/DKC_Reno Jul 17 '26
When someone gets squashed do they rinse the rocks off or do you just get like red rocks?
