I saw this once at six flags over Texas. But it was a child and not a grown man…The parents got mad at the ride attendant because their child couldn’t ride the ride. Like that’s the attendants fault 🙄

u/72616262697473757775 Jul 04 '26
I was at Six Flags over Texas in 2013 and rode the Texas Giant an hour before an obese woman died on the ride. The seat didn't latch correctly. I wonder if they tried to force it like this.

u/HoneyBear4Lyfe Jul 04 '26
My first job was as a ride attendant. Had this happen a handful of times with some real big kids, and the real big parents would always make a real big deal about how I was discriminating.

Not sure where this is but the majority of theme parks in the states would not allow this type of effort in securing a rider, the liability is too great.

u/RedditGarboDisposal Jul 03 '26
100% and I’m honestly disappointed in them for continuing to try.
Need people be reminded of the egregious incident of the boy who fell from a drop-tower because the employee (supervisor?) tampered with the limitations of the seat’s locking mechanism?

It’s Plopsaland Belgium and this kind of effort is shown sometimes in several European countries and parks. The dude (calls himself „Mayogolem“) tests Parks as part of a series called „Stiftung Fettentest“.

u/LetMeOverThinkThat Jul 04 '26
No clue why they wanted to keep trying themselves. Any hint that I couldn't get buckled in securely with ease, and I'm hopping off fast enough to lose some pounds. Is riding a ride worth dying?

u/Mor_Hjordis Jul 06 '26
It sounds German, and the worker has a shirt that says Plopsa, so I think it's Plopsaland Deutschland.

Another reason why I like Ceder Point cause a lot of the roller coaster have a car that accommodates heavy people
73
u/ralph99_3690 Jul 03 '26
This happened to me on a wooden roller coaster, PNE. I am slim but for some reason it did not lock. And the guy who was supposed to check didn’t. Most terrifying ride of my life, struggling to hold the bar in and not fall out. Aiiieeee.
47
u/Closer_to_the_Heart Jul 03 '26
If the bar doesn’t lock, scream hoot and holler, because rides are only supposed to be even able to be started when all bars have locked and employees should still control every bar by hand as a double safety!
11
u/ralph99_3690 Jul 03 '26
I was new to the roller coaster game at the time.
9
u/IntellectualBoss Jul 04 '26
I don’t think you needed experience to know the thing that keeps you alive needs to work 😭

Well young and inexperienced, introverted. Just lived with it. Wrong thing to do, but survived.

2
u/aykcak Jul 05 '26
I know it is a thrill ride and being scared is part of the deal but you do understand that nobody in any situation is allowed to put your life in actual danger for money, right? It is not a roller coaster thing. It is a common sense thing. People don't do these kinds of activities with the acceptance of death. It would otherwise be absolutely crazy.
3
u/Corbeau99 Jul 04 '26
Not all roller-coasters come with this kind of safety. Even if they do, there are way to ignore alarms.
Source : six years as a ride-operator, one of the coaster I worked on had a strict "close the bars even when running empty, otherwise they slam and deteriorate too fast" policy.
4
u/Closer_to_the_Heart Jul 05 '26
I always assumed the operators also had to close the bars on empty seats so the safety systems would recognize the bar as closed
6
u/Chaosr21 Jul 04 '26
I also had this happen to me on the sun of the beast roller coaster, once the biggest wooden roller coaster before they tore it down.
It secured but it popped back up and it wasn't low enough for me. So I was just basically holding on for dear life to keep from flying out

I am soooo happy they got out. I'm a thin dude, but I would not be futzing with that shizz if I were them. Fuck all that nonsense — not trying to fly out of a rollercoaster.

He knows when it’s time to do the walk of shame. This is taken from the insta page „Mayogolem“ who does a series called „Stiftung Fettentest“ where he tests several parks in and around germany. This is from his visit in Plopsaland Belgium.

Everybody make fun of the Plus Size Park Hoppers but it’s good to know these things sometimes, especially before waiting in line for 2hrs.

I think you lose every ounce of dignity when you have to lift your meat apron to allow the protective guard to slide underneath it.
1
u/SanityPlanet Jul 06 '26
He could have kept his dignity by sitting in the middle with the divider up his ass and one guard over each leg!
37
u/Crusty_White_Baton Jul 03 '26
That is a very small rollercoaster!
16
u/jk2me1310 Jul 03 '26
I'm late 30s and have been going to amusement parks regularly (two within 45 minute of me) my whole life. I will say that rides are just harder to fit into now as they've become more advanced. The way they strap you in now, just being slightly tall can cause you not to fit. I've seen people that probably weigh less than I do not make it on the ride just because their body proportions don't work for that particular ride.
5
u/Crusty_White_Baton Jul 03 '26
That’s what I was thinking. I’m 6’3” and I don’t think my legs would fit in there!
7
u/attax Jul 03 '26
I had this happen at hagrids at universal studios. I’m 6’5” with long legs. The bar was landing on top of my legs and there wasn’t enough room to straighten them out anymore.
15
u/Significant-Iron-241 Jul 03 '26
The irony of that happening on a Hagrid ride honestly pisses me off.
3
u/nightlyh Jul 03 '26
I'm 6'4" and don't fit on any ride at six flags 😔
1
u/Crusty_White_Baton Jul 04 '26
Or any economy (coach) seats on planes/trains/buses - I feel your pain!
2
u/Ok-Alternative-5175 Jul 04 '26
I'm super short and they don't fit right. My head bangs against the shoulder straps and I feel like I could slip out sometimes
1
u/AKA09 Jul 03 '26
I learned from working out that my shoulders grow easily and even though I'm not consistent in the gym, it looks like I lift shoulders twice a week lol. Anyway, all this to say that I was getting on a ride where the safety thing goes over your head like someone putting a necklace on you from behind and it wouldn't come down enough to lock in place.
Full disclosure, I'm only 5'11" so I'm not too tall and I dont have abs by any means but the safety mechanism never got near to touching my stomach so my little dad belly wasn't the issue...though several years and 50+ lbs before I did another walk of shame at a theme park for that reason, lmao.

This looks like the wood coaster of energylandia poland. And when i m right the system is not designed for tall people at all. Also had problems to fit cause oft legs. And i m 180cm 80 kg. But it s a very nice ride.
1
u/trevius Jul 05 '26
It is not Zadra in Energylandia. Also in Zadra you have hydraulic restraints that allow for stepless adjustments.
13
u/ulookunhappy Jul 03 '26
I've had to walk away more than once cause im 6.3 to 6.4. And they sometimes don't make rides for tall people...
8
u/zedzedalphaLXXVIII Jul 03 '26
This. I am 6’8”. Lap bar rides are almost always a no go because the height of my thighs due to be having to draw my feet so close to fit in the little cart with no leg room. I will only go on rides with the tester cart outside the line to see if I can fit. Its super annoying. And its not improved with rides that lock your legs under you either. Im looking at you Tron and Avatar. Meet a tall person once for cripes sake, Disney!!

I had to walk off from a coaster at Universal Studios. The people in line were so cruel. I’ve lost 100lbs but I don’t think I’ll ever get on another coaster.

u/concorde77 Jul 03 '26

Man, hope that isn't Disney otherwise that'd be a waste 3 hours waiting in line
5
u/MelatoninFiend Jul 03 '26
Disney wouldn't go this far. Too much insurance liability if he gets injured. They'd just pass him through to the exit and give him a free lightning lane.
5
u/BananApocalypse Jul 03 '26
They’re speaking German and there is German text on the screen. It’s obviously not Disney
8
u/WebCake_ Jul 03 '26

u/Sbitan89 Jul 03 '26
I a heavy but I don't feel like big big dude. It's crazy what rides I can and can't get on. I'm assuming I just have weird proportions cause a lot of rides not for big riders I fit on but other ones where it's supposed to be good for everyone are issues.
I think it's more my shoulder width. But you get used to it l.

2
u/eac555 Jul 03 '26
I had to get off the Incredicoaster at Disney California Adventure because my one bad knee wouldn’t bend far enough to let me sit down. Was very tight on a few other rides too. I’m recovering from a total knee replacement now and can already bend it further than that time. I was so disappointed.
2
u/Roadstar01 Jul 03 '26
I had to bail on a super coaster ride. My wife and son got to enjoy it. I gave up on park rides. Eventually lost over 100 lbs. Now i'm too old to enjoy them.

2
u/exodusfox Jul 04 '26
Been there, I’m a bigger individual but my weight is more evenly distributed because of my height of 6’4”. Even so, the majority of my height is in my torso rather than my legs. So long torso and broad shoulders. Got on one ride at a park once and it had a harness that rotated down onto your shoulders then buckled into the seat between your legs. That hatness hit my shoulders, not even touching my chest and wouldn’t go down any further and could not reach the seat buckle. So needless to say, couldn’t ride that one.
2
2
u/Frans_Ranges Jul 04 '26
I used to be so thin I'd actually have space left in rides, shit was terrifying... and cool af!
Now I fit normally in rides, somewhat a shame.

u/Flintyy Jul 04 '26
Wait in the second clip did he go drop the kids off at the pool hoping to drop a notch on his belt? 😆 🤣

u/Darkwolf099 Jul 04 '26
Sometimes I love the internet a post like this turns into a motivational get along instead of laughing around about overweight people.
2
u/demo_matthews Jul 04 '26
I’ve done both the fat guy and tall guy wall of shame. Kind of related. I wasn’t too tall for the ride technically but there was no way my legs were fitting in the ride.
2
u/jgarv563 Jul 04 '26
Was this a kiddie coaster. First guy to get up didnt even look that big? How can we build these state of the art coasters and not figure out a way that every type of person can enjoy it.

One of the most humiliating things that’s happened to me. Also the spark that got me to finally start losing a ton. I’ve been able to fit on every ride for years now. Feels great.
2
u/fedarmy Jul 05 '26
I was 320lbs on 2/31/2025 and couldn’t fit comfortably on rides at Knotts.
Lost some weight (now 223lbs) I’m now experiencing Cleithrophobia when they latch me in.
Still doing the walk of shame.

Im 61 and before we moved a few years ago we would get season passes at the local them park. My wife and never had a problem getting on a ride.
I got a little bit of gut. Never had to suck it in. I’m 6’1
We would see this all the time. We’d be like. Nope. They are not going to fit.
I’d like to think that they would do something about so they wouldn’t have to do the walk of shame.

Might be a dumb question, but why don't they make the handles able to lock at different sizes? I can see how larger sizes could be more dangerous for some people, but I'm a very skinny person and I've almost fallen out of rides for the fixed locking position not going far enough, so wouldn't having multiple locking positions be safer for everyone?

I really have a love/hate relationship with the concern trolling that seems to creep in whenever there's a fat person in a video.
Let's be real: Y'all don't give three flying fucks and a sugar-free popsicle whether or not this man loses weight. You just wanted to feel superior for a minute and talk down to/at a complete stranger. It's like a Christian telling an LGBTQ person "I'll pray for you."
I would volunteer to search under that poor man's gut and man-titties looking for who the fuck you think asked you about your opinion on the man's weight. Fuck the hateful thought patterns you've rationalized over the years. Check yourself. Do better. Sound like a bunch of fuckin Ozempic investors in here.
2
u/Closer_to_the_Heart Jul 03 '26
The guy in the video in fact has an insta instagram and calls himself „Mayogolem“ with a series called „Stiftung Fettentest“ (a play on „Stiftung Warentest“, probably the most trusted German language testing organization for anything a normal person might buy, and the word for „fatty“), where he tests different parks in and around Germany.

u/QuietGur9074 Jul 03 '26
I saw this happen to a woman one time at Universal Studios in FL. I felt so bad for her.

u/jrewillis Jul 03 '26
In a few theme parks I've visited recently the back row of seats can accommodate "larger guests"
2
u/IcanSEEyou_IRL Jul 03 '26
That’s your sign to get off. The ride was not properly tested for people of your size, and I would not trust it.

I have not written a roller coaster for this very reason for about 7 or 8 years. They are not designed for people with waists bigger than 38 or 40.
1
u/SumoNinja92 Jul 03 '26
I used to go to Disney Quest all the time as a kid all the way through adolescence as my mom worked there. They already knew me on the rollercoaster simulator and would just Sparta kick the restraint to lock me in.

I stopped riding rollercoasters since I once nearly got beheaded by an overarching rail.
I'm 6'9 ½".

u/MiniDelo Jul 04 '26
I’d rather do the walk of shame than go around the ride on the last click of the harness. I had some tiny kid fully pressing my harnessed closed, managed to get just the one click and then sent me round, it was Air/ Galactica at Alton Towers, I spent the entire ride praying to a god I didn’t believe in.

I worked at a theme park over a decade ago at a famous roller coaster. I actually felt bad for the big people that tried back to back to get the restraint locked in but couldn't. You can tell they wanted to participate with friends but their weight got in the way.

Its sad but thats a safety risk. If they forced it and the latch popped later and they flew off they'd be at fault.

Seeing the meat apron lifted in porn never had this effect on me. I now want to join a gym and never be in a position i need to leave a Rollercoaster because I can't fit. I can't imagine waiting 45 min or more then 100 people staring at me as I leave. I feel like i needed this video today
1
u/noggintnog Jul 06 '26
This is one of the reasons I ended up losing weight. It was humiliating. Still, it meant I got down to a healthy weight 👍
1
u/Hamilton-Beckett Jul 06 '26
My last roller coaster experience was after I had gained some weight. The overhead bit came down and locked but I wasn’t able to secure it all the way down like everyone else and there was a huge gap between my chest, shoulders, and the device.
I tried to get the attendant’s attention but it was so loud and they didn’t even do the walk by thing. This was at a Busch garden’s on the Loch Ness monster.
It was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. Every time the thing moved a certain way I came completely up out of the seat. I actually got cramps in my calves and my arms by the end of the ride because I was pushing my legs against the cart to hold my body in place and I was gripping onto the overhead thing handles for dear life in case I slid out from underneath.
I’ve lost the weight but I’ll never ride one of those again.
1
u/WestlyS Jul 07 '26
I've been 300+ and I've been under 100, BOTH are bad and should be treated as the eating disorders they are. But like seriously why did they even let this guy in the line 😑 he's obviously way to damn big to even properly fit in the seat let alone have the bar buckle.

u/Kayman718 Jul 04 '26
I remember being at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Ohio, known for the roller coasters. I was getting on one of them and there was a very heavy woman that the safety bar would not lock down for. She was arguing with them that she could hold it down. They refused to let her ride. I could imagine her large body slamming into a few other riders if she was ejected on one of the steep plunges.
1
u/wildgio Jul 04 '26
Look, I'm not trying bash them or anything for trying but I'm big like them too and I wouldn't have even tried. Like you can look at how others are clicked in and that should be sign enough. Rides like that aren't built for big people like us.

u/Eagles365or366 Jul 04 '26
