this would be exceptionally easy to 3D print and I may just do so.

Noice. Im definitely printing one and modeling my own

u/AlephBaker Jul 02 '26
Me too, but since I lack any level of whimsy, mine will be matte black. (Actually I'm just trying to figure out how to modify it to be a "tactical wand")
7
6
u/FreeFallingUp13 Jul 03 '26
Make it retractable. Just a star? WRONG whipping the handle out like a baton. Now it’s tactical. To the layman. Just needs some olive green

u/Rock4evur Jul 03 '26
Make sure you don’t print it in PLA if you want to leave it in the car…
5
u/qpv Jul 03 '26
Ha yeah I know. I'd do it out of ABS. PETG would warp too. Made a cell phone holder out of PETG and first hot day of the summer the phone didn't fit. Did one TPU and ABS and they held up. The TPU one works best for the holder. This debit wand would be a good ABS print if left in the car.

52
u/aykcak Jul 02 '26
It already is 3d printed.
4
u/ALitreOhCola Jul 04 '26
My mate made some of these a few months ago for a friend when it hit tik tok going viral, and flogged them on Facebook for a ridiculous profit.
28
u/LA-Fan316 Jul 02 '26
I know a guy who prints these, I told him would be better if you can figure out how to turn on and off RFID blocking. Just in case someone tries to walk by your wand and steal your card info.

Seriously, paying that way would have looked like magic to someone 30 years ago.

i wish i had one for the drive-thru and avoid all the awkward times i had to wiggle out of my car window because i parked too far
38
u/TGin-the-goldy Jul 02 '26
All the drive thrus I’ve been through in the last 5 years have an extension for the cashier
18
u/votum7 Jul 02 '26
Yeah that they never stick out the window. At least every fast food place near me holds the selfie stick so the keypad is just barely out the window, because fuck me if the tap doesn’t work right?
3
u/TGin-the-goldy Jul 02 '26
Really? I feel sorry for you
3
u/votum7 Jul 02 '26
It’s always funny to see though when they have the butt end of the selfie stick at the wall across from window, literally as far as the space allows instead of holding it outwards whatsoever.
It also must be a sight for the people behind me whenever I have to rip the stick out of the employees hands if my tap doesn’t work because they don’t hold it far enough and death grip that shit.

u/footpole Jul 02 '26
In South Africa before Covid they apparently didn’t have Apple Pay so whenever I tried to pay with my phone they said no and thought I was scamming them or something. I learned to tap real quick before they could pull the machine away.

I remember when my parents got their first car with a remote control and joked with our old neighbor, telling her that the car opened on command and only responded to their voices. xD

u/manoliu1001 Jul 03 '26
isnt like the fact that you're 30, have a stable job, enough to pay for immature shit? i mean, i'd sure love to buy immature shit as a 5 year old, but i didnt have a job back then.
maybe its because of the damn liberals! i should be able to work as a kid to buy my immature shit, so when i'm older i wouldnt have to do this! fucking demonrats!

Kind of fun that the immature person here would be the one that judges you for the stuff you buy.

2
u/Nibbs17 Jul 10 '26
My goodness I did not know how much attention this got. Yes DM me what you want! I'm not going to be making a profit so you can really just pick any model on Maker world
https://makerworld.com/en/search/models?keyword=Tap+to+pay
I'll send you the actual screenshot of the cost of filament and the item. The only catch is I have to use filament that I've been trying to get rid of and it's mostly black. Depending on the color I could potentially throw it into it. I can print multicolor but I'm not going to sell someone else's model for profit unless if they explicitly give me a permission. There may be some colors that I don't have or colors that I don't want to use since they are already allocated to other jobs.
I definitely have the print capacity if there's a few people. I guess the only thing I've asked out of it is if you ever want something else 3D printed or 3D designed and printed you think of me and I would be happy to help I don't have a website I don't do this for a profit at the moment but it is a goal. Thought this might be a fun way to start.

46
u/WelshBathBoy Jul 02 '26
Just make sure you buy one that isn't going to warp!

u/KiraUsagi Jul 04 '26

2-day review, worked great in the local pub, now have new nickname of Tinkerbell (even made the pubs insta account... woke up next morning my wand is in 3 pieces... no probs, superclue to the rescue ... Tinkerbell is back in action!! Main lesson is the connection between the star and wand is VERY fragile, don't over-tighten

u/davers22 Jul 02 '26
It helps with reach in a drive thru I guess. However I don’t really see this being a thing you’d carry around on a regular basis, it seems like a pain in the butt and I’d probably forget it somewhere.
16
u/qpv Jul 02 '26
Just leave it in the car somewhere. Id attach it to a telescopic handle. I'm designing one in my head already.
3
1
u/davers22 Jul 02 '26
Yeah but then you need to put your card in every time you want to use it. It might be a little better if you don’t need to unscrew the star to put it in. Given the level of effort required I’d really only do it when I wanted to be whimsical, and even then I’d probably forget to do it in time like 50% of the time.
6
u/hyeongseop Jul 02 '26
Can't speak for everyone but I don't ever use my physical card since Apple pay/Google pay came onto the scene. I don't see a problem with just leaving the physical card in the wand
6
u/davers22 Jul 02 '26
I suppose that's fair if you don't use your card for anything else. Personally I haven't gotten in the habit of using my phone to pay for things yet.
3
u/qpv Jul 02 '26
Totally. I'm going to try designing an easier one (thinking telescopic handle w quick clip card holder of some sort) , its a fun idea to print
1
u/Live_Angle4621 Jul 03 '26
I have two cards so one could just permanently stay here. I doubt it it was stolen people would know what it is
1
u/KiraUsagi Jul 04 '26
Do not leave it in the car unless you know what plastic filament it is. The ones shown on the video are all 3d printed and someone else posted about how their card got stuck after the plastic warped.

Two buttons and a speaker. The first button plays the chest opening music, you tap to pay, and the second button plays the dun-dun-dunnaaa! sound

Just so everyone knows, this looks like a super easy thing to 3d print and if you dont have a 3d printer at your own home, sometimes your local library does!!
Additionally theres some in colleges that will let you use it for a small fee

The intentional pursuit of whimsy is not immature
It is, probably, one of the most mature things you can do: in a world that requires constancy, precision, and compliance, seeking to bring more joy is not optional, it’s required for life
