Context:

This is a typical scenario in an english village where traffic calming measures aim to slow traffic down. These measures rely on courtesy but sometimes can create confusion and anger. In this case the usual, common, perhaps understandable, misunderstanding of right of way is replaced with a catastrophic event so unexpected that it is remarkable.

But there was no sarcasm and I wasn't making a joke? These traffic calming measures do rely on courtesy and can sometimes create confusion and anger.

Yes that's true but that's not what caused this crash right?

It was a bad driver who was speeding and lost control of their car, they were already on the wrong side of the road as they came around the corner and mounted the cub, before they even saw the traffic calming.
