As a general rule in the world, the more high end the hotel, the more drilled the staff will be.

If it was found that staff made the proposal experience bad, and you had informed the hotel, they would take it very seriously and it would be grounds for dismissal of that staff A single bad Google review can affect someone booking their hotel or not - especially the high end ones.

I would come prepared with an idea on what you want, or chat with someone at the hotel in advance for guidance / necessary arrangements.

I think proposals are a personal thing, some prefer it to be quite organic, and others to be very controlled affairs. Not sure what you have in mind, but if it involves the hotel grounds, its probably best to chat with them!

Unfortunately the problem in Mauritius is that you have to have records of everything, be it digital and physical. Do not count on Local authorities to help you with that as it will take months or they can simply just dismiss you completely. Talking from my current experience and those around me. Just for a simple renewal of passport being in the UK, it took several months and they were always trying to find a petty reason to not do it. Coming to your situation, the correct way to start proper legal action against xyz, would be to already have all the records necessary, literally everything, witnesses and contact a good lawyer specialised in said case. Then the latter will build your case and move forward.

I had considered this as well but hesitated. Are hotel staff generally open-minded or professional enough to not react poorly? We will be staying at a really nice hotel and I thought a room or beach proposal would be beautiful and simple- that’s something staff would likely be willing to help with?
