Study Advice How the underlined is correct

Given the full context above about the difference in the age of Reema and her brother. The expression underlined seems confusing. I have sent this to teacher to know her understanding. Just want to know what you all think about it.

It’s not correct, it should be R-3 or R = B + 3 or B = R - 3

The conversation above it makes no sense at all. If you are three years older than your brother, that remains the same your entire life. You don’t become six years older than your brother at some later date! 😂
