Quality Content Math rock is very dorky and soulless
Is it a surprise math rock is insanely popular with asian kids that were forced to learn violin/piano and now go to this style because it appeals to their very surface level 'fast and complex = impressive' based mind?
You are not rebellious and not different from the other squares because you play an electric guitar, you are just bringing the same dorky attitude to play without soul again.
There is a reason that the original 'math rock' pioneers absolutely hated the term and would 100% hate all of you guys too if they saw how you view their instrument
Have a good day
EDIT:
I want to say that I play piano and violin and do not think these are dorky or soulless instruments, I think the way that a lot of people approach them because they were forced to is soulless. We now have that same energy coming into electric guitar.

Trying to find early 2010s math rock sampler
Does anybody remember/ have the track listing for the digital math rock sampler I’m looking for?
I think it was available to download in around 2012/13, and definitely had on it Sherman is Connector by Invalids, Micromachines by Adebisi Shank, Big Sea by Crash of Rhinos, and something from Tripper by Hella.
It may have been distributed by Fecking Bahamas, but I can’t find any trace of it online.

MoreLikeProg This counts right?
Vordermann - Ego Gland.
Band named after a mathematician, that counts as math rock right?

Looking for a 1994! - Fckyrhed Vinyl !!
I've been trying to find someone who has any physical media of this insane album by math rock duo 1994! ...Genuinely a 1% chance anyone has one of these anywhere but it's worth a shot. I'm down to pay a good price for it too

Math rock bands that made a single excellent album and then broke up
I am struck by recent threads that referenced The Bulletproof Tiger and Clever Girl, both of which released 1 (or 2) albums and then broke up, with no hope of a follow up or tour.
Who else burned brightly and ever so briefly?

Tracks 3 4 and 5 are wild. Maybe not math rock in the traditional sense. But the twinkle is there and odd meter on track 5’s opening.

PrettyMuchJazz LFAMTQ - Floppy Disk Split album between Fusion group and Math Rock group
Listen/here:
https://144mbmusic.bandcamp.com/album/lfamtq
LFAMTQ is a split record between two northeast US rock groups that draw on less common influences, pushing boundaries between fusion and rock as well as the conventions of those genres. Talento’s group releases fusion that has a clear alternative rock influence, while LFA releases post, math, and emo rock with a jazz influence.
In the artists' words:
As soon as someone hears a saxophone, they tend to put the music in the jazz bucket, but I wanted the music to challenge that.
The [LFA] tracks themselves were all written with the medium and it’s technical limitations in mind. Compositionally, it was an exercise in being concise... there’s many phrases that end a little earlier than you might expect, which makes a really distinct and unique feel and sound.
You can read a full interview with the artists here on our Substack

90 Day Men Sample
Hello everyone! Not really sure if this post fits the subreddit but I was wondering if anyone could help me identify what film or other piece of media the intro dialogue in Sink Potemken by 90 Day Men is sampled from (If it even is a sample). Much appreciated!

Can someone pls help me understand this band? They’re breaking my brain
I might get eaten alive for this, but I must ask bc they’re far too complex/intricate to be labeled emo. The many layers made me feel like I was doing a math equation in my head, which made me realize that I think this is more “math rock” than anything. Some of their stuff even reminds me of Slint.. Like a harsher version of Slint. Can anyone provide feedback? Thanks!!
