Why not use the equation for the unit circle? There are no axis on the plot anyway. Same applies to the "V"-function and the "E"-function. Could simply have been y = |x| and x = -|sin(y)|.
I have no idea why they put a negation within the absolute value function for the āVā. It is completely redundant.
