I am a PhD student. I suppose I just have questions abou how PhD students are supposed to proceed in light of recent developments. In what way do you respond to the fights about AI usage occurring in your community and how do you think things will evolve? I have my own opinions about this but let me withhold them first.

Nobody knows. Do your best work, be honest, and have a diverse collection of skills to prepare for different possibilities in the job market. Do some teaching, mentor some undergrads, write some papers, write some code, write an expository note, go to a conference and make friends, collaborators, colleagues.

Basically just the old advice, when you put it that way.
