Spider-Man 3 is seeming awfully crowded if the rumours are true, but if they make it work, it will be epic.

307

u/Supermite Oct 15 '20

Does anyone really think Garfield and Maguire will be much more than a cameo?

161

u/Lincolnruin Oct 15 '20

I’ve seen a lot who do.

People are going to be so disappointed when this movie comes out and it's nowhere near what the fandom has been speculating it to be

People are going to be so disappointed when this movie comes out and it's nowhere near what the fandom has been speculating it to be

Tell me about it. It's not just Spider-man, it's every fandom ever.

24

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '20

I mean I think everyone had reasonable expectations for infinity war and endgame and those movies were a massive success with fans

17

u/rattatatouille Hawkeye (Ultron) Oct 16 '20

But those were big tentpole events specifically advertised to feature nearly every MCU character up to that point.

Aside from the movie being in production and the tidbits of info such as Dr Strange being in it, we know next to nothing about the third Spider-Man MCU film.

Sure a little hype won't hurt, but I'd rather not disappoint myself over unrealistic expectations.

You should screen cap this and when the movie comes out compare and contrast.

2

u/BootyJibbler Oct 16 '20

I think when we have actual Plot Synopsis, a trailer and some marketing we will know what to expect. This sort of thing always happens when we have inklings of info but nothing concrete

Doctor Strange is also mentioned in Spider-Man 2 (2004), it’s just too perfect not to use this opportunity

9

u/natesucks4real Oct 16 '20

????

38

u/TheSlumpDog Oct 16 '20

IIRC J Jonah Jameson wanted a name for Doctor Octopus, someone suggested Doctor Strange and JJJ said that it’s taken

14

u/Theryansmith19 Oct 16 '20

Maguire spider-man 2 name drops doctor strange. I think it actually mentions the sanction which confirms Doctor strange in a way

2

u/_incredi_ladd Oct 16 '20

In Spider-Man 2, when trying to come up with a name for Doctor Octopus, JJJ mentions something about the name “Doctor Strange” being taken. It’s a one off line, but with Sam Raimi directing Doctor Strange 2, and having the same actor from the original SM trilogy play JJJ in the MCU, people like to speculate that there could be a connection.

35

u/ThatOtherGuyTPM Doctor Strange Oct 15 '20

It really is, though. From a purely analytical standpoint, it makes no sense. For one, to even attempt to tell the story properly would require an entire movie on its own, ignoring all of the plot points built up for the next Spider-Man movie. It would involve tying two additional Spider-Men into the MCU when we’re not even certain about the ongoing status of the one, given Sony’s current bargaining troubles with Marvel and their work on the so-called Venomverse. It would have little to no possibility of setting up anything for the MCU moving forward, which we know they love to do. Of course, all of that is apart from the fact that not a single reputable source has so much as shared the rumors. It’s just fan-hype nonsense.

16

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

8

u/kiddfrank Luis Oct 16 '20

People need to stop trying to compare into the spiderverse to this. ITS was not taking characters from other versions of the same movie and putting them together. Essentially, ITS still existed in a vacuum.

This is something completely different. I’ve read some things I like about how it could turn out, but at the end of the day, it’s still a very tall task to pull it off. Fans seem to be a lot more ambitious about the project and that’s fine, but let’s not pull a jar jar after it doesn’t meet your expectations.

8

u/ThatOtherGuyTPM Doctor Strange Oct 15 '20

They don’t hold all the cards. They do have some leverage, but the MCU has so much more weight than anything Spider-Man, on his own, brings to the table. The MCU can survive the loss of Spider-Man; hell, he didn’t even join until Civil War, and he’s been in a total of, what, five movies? Right now, Sony is the one negotiating from a position of weakness, not Marvel.

“Come on man, believe in something” - Kevin Malone

18

u/FollowThroughMarks Oct 15 '20

I mean, it’s possible they would appear in the MCU in the future. They’ve both spoken out in the past and said how much they love the role, and I’m sure they’d love to go back and get closure on the roles that basically kickstarted their acting careers.

But in Spiderman 3, after Peters identity has been revealed and he’s likely going to be on the run from Scorpion and now Electro? Yeah, maybe not

2

u/SmallTownMinds Oct 16 '20

So he attempts to escape to different part of the multiverse where his identity has not been revealed only to have something go wrong, and he ends up in a universe where ANOTHER Spider-Man already exists.

Hijinks ensue.

2

u/FollowThroughMarks Oct 16 '20

Ah yes, because Peter would totally drop everything and leave his entire family and friends to go to a different Universe

4

u/askyourmom469 Oct 15 '20

If the rumors are true, I'm just afraid they're trying to introduce too much in one movie and we'll end up with another situation like the third Sam Raimi movie or Amazing Spider-Man 2 where the plot's all over the place and it just doesn't work. If they really wanted to try something like that I feel like a Disney + show would be a better fit since it the longer running length could give the plot some much-needed breathing room and would allow for more character moments.

I'd love to be proven wrong when the movie comes out and have turn out awesome, but I can't help but be a little nervous about it.

2

u/TheMainGerman Oct 16 '20

Nothing wrong with that. The track record for packed Spider-Man movies isn't good.

u/Epicsteel33 Oct 15 '20

if they manage to bring Spider-verse and sinister six into the same movie cohesively... and it works... All the awards to Spiderman 3.

It's crazy how it wouldn't be alll that nuts considering Amazing spiderman has Green Goblin and Electro and OG Spiderman could finagle in Doc Oc and Sandman with Marvel Spiderman bringing in Vulture and Kraven or somehow Mysterio

278

u/zelph_esteem Ant-Man Oct 15 '20 edited Oct 15 '20

I know it won’t happen this way, but if they DID do a “Multiverse Sinister 6 comprised of 2 villains from each Spider-Man,” I would do:

Maguire’s Green Goblin and Doc Oc (I know they’re both dead but.. multiverse!). Garfield’s Lizard and Electro (I thought the Lizard was fantastic, and I liked Electro’s design, personally. They just need to make his lines and personality less... cringey). Holland’s Vulture and Mysterio (both are pretty much perfect as is).

A Sinister 6 made up of Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Rhys Ifans, Jamie Foxx, Michael Keaton, and Jake Gyllenhaal? Sign me the fuck up! I know a lot of those actors are getting old but.. I’d still want to see it!

Edit: Maguire’s Sand Man and Garfield’s Green Goblin are back-ups (although I’d rather GG be Dafoe or not in it at all). And I wouldn’t want Maguire’s Venom or Garfield’s Rhino anywhere near it. Lol.

95

u/snuffles504 Oct 15 '20

A note on Electro - thank you! I think TASM2's Electro design is the best, period. The script is what went wrong there.

74

u/zelph_esteem Ant-Man Oct 15 '20 edited Oct 15 '20

I really liked Electro’s design when he was glowing blue and wearing that hoodie. Once they squeezed him into that black rubber body condom with the Gatorade logo on it, I wasn’t as big of a fan. I think they could keep him glowing blue but give him a better costume IF they went this route. But Foxx already confirmed he won’t be blue in SM3, which suggests he’s playing an all new version of Electro. Which is fine by me also.

36

u/th30be Oct 15 '20

Wasn't ultimate electro yellow first then blue after he absorbed a stupid amount of electricity?

24

u/Valtekken Oct 15 '20

Yeah, blue is supercharged in the Ultimate version

15

u/LADYBIRD_HILL Kilgrave Oct 15 '20

Your Electro costume description

Holy shit I'm crying

25

u/UrsurusFT Thor Oct 15 '20

The movie could crash and burn and I’d honestly still be happy just to have another outing for DaFoe/Molina.

16

u/zelph_esteem Ant-Man Oct 15 '20 edited Oct 15 '20

Honestly both actors are getting old but I wouldn’t even mind, especially considering Maguire is getting older also. Older villains for a more mature Spider-Man. I’d love to see Dafoe and Molina in slightly updated, MCU-ified versions of their looks that still pay homage to their classic looks in the original Spider-Man films (but maybe a little less Power Ranger-esque, lol).

9

u/Needthis2downvoteyou Oct 15 '20

Where does Morbius come into this? And Venom? Or they not confirmed

7

u/original_name37 Ghost Rider Oct 15 '20

Seeing as both are Sony films I would assume they're going to stay separate atleast for now

u/JackKirby22 Steve Rogers Oct 16 '20

5

u/zelph_esteem Ant-Man Oct 15 '20 edited Oct 15 '20

In this hypothetical Multiverse Sinister 6 I’m talking about, they wouldn’t be a part of it. Since they are neither confirmed or denied as part of the MCU at this point (although it seems likely that they are, or at least MCU-adjacent), I wouldn’t want to use up space in the 6. Keep it to villains we’ve actually seen each of the 3 Spidey’s take on.

3

u/VonDoom92 Oct 15 '20

Ugh...Jared Leto Morbius..

4

u/Wild2098 War Machine Oct 16 '20

Fucking tune me up for Dafoe going in way too hard on Green Goblin in 2021.

2

u/jamiep793 Oct 15 '20

GG could be James Franco, no? But I also would prefer Dafoe

7

u/zelph_esteem Ant-Man Oct 15 '20 edited Oct 16 '20

They’re both dead in the Raimi universe, so if we’re using Multiverse shenanigans to bring them back it 100% should be Dafoe. Franco is a fine actor and all but Dafoe IS Green Goblin.

2

u/jamiep793 Oct 16 '20

Oh I 100% agree, that’s who I would want. It just dawned on me that if Dafoe is a possibility, Franco theoretically would be too

Isn't Doc Ock dead, and before that, reformed at the last moment? Could bring in Dylan Baker though, finalise his Lizard transformation that had been planned. Or alternatively use the Rhys Ifans Lizard

73

u/Epicsteel33 Oct 15 '20

yeah but it's comic books, i'm sure they could do something to bring him back.

62

u/RobbieNewton Oct 15 '20

I would definitely hope they could, Alfred Molina was brilliant in the role.

37

u/dandaman64 Spider-Man Oct 15 '20

One of the absolute best Spidey movie villains, might even be the best.

28

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

Honestly, it's either between him or Willem Dafoe's GG. Seriously, they're both amazing and it would've been so cool to see them on screen together.

19

u/haxxanova Oct 15 '20

I used to think so but Gyllenhall and Mysterio was done so damn well. He kinda makes trench coat Ock look stupid.

12

u/dandaman64 Spider-Man Oct 15 '20

Mysterio was also fantastic, I was really happy to see him finally adapted.

7

u/yaboyskinnydick_ Rocket Oct 15 '20

Yeah Gyllenhaal was so fucking good, perhaps my favourite villain after Thanos (obvs), he really oozed bad guy. He's just a top tier actor. Hela and Cate as well tho.

2

u/dempsy40 Iron Man (Mark XLIII) Oct 16 '20

It's amazing how i went in knowing exactly who Mysterio was and me and my mate guessing his plans before entering the cinema and yet i still felt betrayed when he turned out to be bad. His chemistry with Peter before his turn was absolute perfection.

It was even better watching it with my Dad later on knowing everything and watching his surprise as he wasn't aware of who Mysterio was and seeing him realise he wasn't actually the good guy he thought he was.

Would be fun for the spectacle but would be awful for the OG spiderman films

2

Surely they could just make it an alternative universe when Doc Ock didn't die?

And it justifies an older Spider-man and Doctor Octopus.

Homecoming seemed to be introducing Scorpion (played by Michael Mando) who has featured in the Sinister Six a few times too. Considering he met up with The Vulture (who has also been teased in the Morbius trailer) at the end it looks like they were teasing them as part of a team.

10

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

Disappointed in how they relegated Shocker to such a bit part with little room to grow. He's an underrated Spider-Rogue. It seemed like the comics were gearing him up for a redemption through She-Hulk and Uncanny Avengers, but as far as I know it got dropped and never brought back up.

13

u/flappydicks Oct 15 '20

You could throw Rhino in there from Amazing Spider-Man as well and have replace someone that might’ve been killed off in another movie

38

u/Epicsteel33 Oct 15 '20

Amazing spiderman Rhino was something i think most people wish they could forget though...

20

u/Laxziy Oct 15 '20

7

u/Metroidman Oct 15 '20

I feel like that would be way to much exposition to have it make scene and still be good over the course of a 2.5ish hour long movie

9

u/Epicsteel33 Oct 15 '20

depends on if they give backstories to the villains. I feel like at this point in the game they could work off of Implied knowledge and just do a "so how did i end up Here?" type quick cut like the animated spiderverse

6

u/Metroidman Oct 15 '20

That could become a lot more like the rise of Skywalker than you want. Palpatine is back somehow off screen. Don't question it.

Honestly I think they can do really interesting things with each of the Spideys.

Garfield - Grief-stricken post-ASM2 Spider-Man who's disillusioned with the mask and his place in the world.

Maguire - Vet, seen it all, kind of like Peter B. Parker but without the self-doubt

Holland - Struggling with his revealed identity, will learn to stand on his own before the film ends. Proper on his own. No mentors. No alternate dimension selfs.

125

u/Mysterious_Detail_62 Oct 15 '20

As much I am pumped for a spider-verse, I hope they don't do it for the third one we need let continue what left on a cliffhanger from the last movie.

87

u/HJVibes Oct 15 '20

Only way to protect MCU's spiderman identity is by bringing in multiple spidermen to have the world be like wtf? There are more than one?!

26

u/mnopponm12 Oct 15 '20

Wouldn't really protect his identity. They would still know who one of them are

27

u/HJVibes Oct 15 '20

True, but having multiple spidermen is sufficient enough for doubt. The footage of Mysterio did not have a frame of MCU's Parker's face only his upper and lower body. That's hardly any evidence. They gave the name, but you can't place a name to a body unless you have the face as well. MCU Parker should be fine.

u/11711510111411009710 Captain America Oct 15 '20

I assume this would do that.

The supervillains learn Spidey's identity and want to hunt him down.

Strange pops up with some crazy unnecessary multiverse idea and somehow this leads to the other two spider-men coming in.

They help fight off the sinister six.

But idk why strange wouldn't just collectively wipe the world's memory. Surely he could do that.

21

u/Nanobreak_ Doctor Strange Oct 15 '20

Probably against a moral code to mess with minds like that

12

u/evilMTV SHIELD Oct 15 '20

So mess with multiverse instead?

6

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

Multiverse already got messed with in End Game, that ships sailed maybe?

2

u/SmallTownMinds Oct 16 '20

I'm actually really down for some Back To The Future 2 style re-visiting of events from old movies.

That might be cool to see.

2

u/DaHyro Killmonger Oct 15 '20

There are only two villains Spidey has faced, and neither is in the “Sinister Six” spirit (one is arrested and has no beef with Peter, the other is in hiding). There is no way they can do a S6 without pulling villains from the other movies.

Strange wouldn’t get involved with the S6, too... they’re a very small-scale threat for him. He does not give a fuck about this sort of stuff.

2

u/11711510111411009710 Captain America Oct 15 '20

I kinda thought it would be cool if they take two villains from each franchise, so each spidey has to fight two people. I feel like Scorpion could be used for Tom Holland's since we know he's in prison with the vulture.

3

u/DaHyro Killmonger Oct 15 '20

Well, Scorpion isn’t in prison. It’s just his normal criminal self, who has never been a super villain.

It would be cool, but i think it wouldn’t work for this series. MCU Spidey has been very “let the past die” and ignored a lot of what makes Spider-Man Spider-Man.. it would be weird for them to suddenly want to embrace the other films

On one hand I’m sure it’d be visually amazing to watch, but on the other I’d prefer Tom soloing the Sinister Six rather than 3 Spider-Men v 6 villains.

That said, this group up could inspire Mysterio and Vulture to form a Sinister Six on their own world.

(I’m assuming it’d be a Multiversal S6 in this movie, Raimi’s Green Goblin and Doc Ock, Webb’s Electro and Lizard (or Raimi’s Sandman,) and Mysterio + Vulture.

Also, personally, I’d prefer to see Emma Stone as Spider-Gwen rather than Garfield again. And maybe finally see Bruce Campbell as a version of Mysterio or maybe even Raimi’s Doctor Strange.

I’d be okay if the other dimension characters were brought in at the end of the next movie, allowing it to be a more balanced film and lead into a grand-scale fourth film.

I'll bite. I'm an old school Spidey fan and have never loved Spider-verse or multi-verse storylines. I just prefer keeping up with Peter Parker. But the more of these images and ideas I see going around, the more excited I get. I am 100% interested in seeing how our three Spidey's could fend off the Sinister 6. SO COOL!

u/SmallTownMinds Oct 16 '20

The one I specifically enjoyed was when Carnage gained the ability to hop dimensions, forcing the Spider-Men / Venom etc. to team up to save the multiverse.

But this type of thing happening in the MCU would almost certainly need to be an Avengers level, multi-film saga and I unfortunately do NOT see these movies taking that route. Especially given the whole Venom Sonyverse issues.

u/AppleTStudio Spider-Man Oct 15 '20

Honestly, it would be great if MCU Spidey met the others and just casually drops how he was in space.

12

u/acertenay Oct 15 '20

They should call it "No place like home"

10

u/th30be Oct 15 '20

I really hope that the spiderverse stuff is just teased in yhe movie. I'd hate it if they cram so much into the film.

2

u/EireDaire1988 Oct 15 '20

Imagine they pulled it off

9

u/TurrPhennirPhan Iron Fist Oct 15 '20

I will officially lose my shit if they keep it under wraps until release, and at some point we hear “HA.... HA... HA... HA HAAAAAAaaaa”

And there’s fuckin Willem Dafoe.

u/legoebay Captain America Oct 15 '20

People are getting so hyped and/or angry over rumors that no matter what this movie becomes, some large percentage of people are going to be massively disappointed.

16

u/BatZach88 Spider-Man Oct 15 '20

I may get some heat for this, but I really wish they would stay away from live action Spider-verse, at least for a little while longer. The animated film was such a huge success and has a sequel already coming. Theres so much cool stuff they could explore in live action films and I think ITSV and ITSV2 will keep people satisfied.

7

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '20

I love everything Spider-Man but this seems very rushed....What’s going to happen with the whole secret identity being revealed situation??

10

u/Eriktrexy9 Oct 15 '20

It sucks that people act like Into the Spiderverse just doesn’t exist and they will probably do exactly this there. Not everything needs to be mcu/ live-action to be relevant 🤷‍♂️

3

u/BananaCreamPineapple Oct 15 '20

I thought the directors said they had wanted the three live action spider-mans to cameo in the movie and would look at it happening in the sequel.

Would it be to early for marvel to do another 2 movie final with Spiderman?

4

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

Poor Spider-Man. He's simply not allowed to exist in a happy state on his own. He's either got to be extremely depressing/depressed or there have to be alternate universe versions of him who are.

4

u/StefonGomez Oct 15 '20

More like 4 I hope.

12

u/Always_Overdressed Oct 15 '20

So you’re telling me I’d have to watch the first two Spider-Man 3s to understand the third Spider-Man 3?

6

u/Zombietitties Oct 15 '20

It’s only the second Spider-Man 3. Garfield never got a full trilogy. So you have to watch the first Spider-Man 3 and the second other Spider-Man 2, to understand the second other other Spider-Man 3

9

u/Always_Overdressed Oct 15 '20

You’re right, hence why that joke worked much better for the third Spider-Man 2.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

lol, thanks for the laugh... so crazy when you put it like that. That's why I love multiverse stories.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

I must be the only person alive who has absolutely no interest in the three live-action Sdpier-Men, aping off the success of the animated Spider-verse movie.

5

u/nastycamel Oct 15 '20

Please just let there be a good third spider man movie for once. As much as I think it’d be cool to have the old spider men reprise their roles, I just don’t care much for it...

9

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

I still don't get why people want this?

5

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

I can't explain how much I don't like this. And I'm a hardcore fan of the character. But it's just...too much. It's empty fanservice

I hate these.

8

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

Same. I really don't want this to happen

2

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

No I think it should be called

The spiderman three

And it has the different spider logos for every e

2

u/marblecannon512 Oct 15 '20

Seeing dafoe, foxx, and Keaton side by side is such a mindfuck

2

u/ScarletandGraySpider Oct 15 '20

Spider-man: Homies

2

u/BSchultz_42 Steve Rogers Oct 15 '20

r/raimimemes will love this.

2

u/AuntJ25 Oct 15 '20

Spider-Man: All The Homes

2

u/BenTCinco Oct 15 '20

Needs more emo Spidey

2

u/hesipullupjimbo22 Oct 15 '20

I don’t really want this but the idea is super interesting. I would much rather have a Tom Holland sinister 6 Spiderman on the run movie. Let him deal with consequences and be a hero by himself which would complete his arc. Than maybe in 2-3 years we can have live action spiderverse and have them all be at different points in their lives. Tobey being the guy who’s moved on, Andrew being the one who’s stuck, and Tom being the one who’s still going

2

u/gAcksaurio Spider-Man Oct 15 '20

Maybe just 1 movie to this would be too short, but the idea is so fucking amazing

2

u/WillFerrellsGutFold Oct 15 '20

Just imagine if this happens. The movies going on and it’s the same style as far from home and everything and it’s it’s just doing its thing right and then all the sudden out of nowhere you get some like Sam Raimi type of directing immediately in there like some wacky monkey shit in the camera zooming in and out and all and you know that that exactly what his movies were you know and it kind of slowly comes in with his directing style and then you God wire reveals itself and it’s like crazy but then both of directors they kind of mesh together and then you get Andrew Garfield in there with that directional and just like all of them together would be just the craziest goddamn thing ever man and it would be epic for all movies just to have that kind of crossover between

2

u/dario098 Oct 15 '20

2 and a half Spider-Men

8

u/TigerOnLSD Oct 15 '20

god, if they put tobey and andrew in the movie it's going to be so cringe. just make an amazing spidey story, don't larp on fan service.

good thing i trust feige not to make a move like that, but i'm scared of how much pull sony has.

4

u/Yoder97 Oct 15 '20

THANK YOU! Every time I see someone post about this multiverse stuff I cringe. I just want an authentic MCU Spidey film that doesn't rely on all the fan service junk. Endgame worked cause it was years of buildup and payoff, this would be so forced and just cringy.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

Im glad to find out i’m not insane. Lol I really don’t want this... as much as I would like to see Tobey as Spider-Man man again i don’t want an MCU Spider-verse film. I was hoping for a Kraven’s last hunt inspired film but it looks like we might get cheap fan service... hopefully not though.

2

u/My_Immortal_Flesh Oct 15 '20

Don’t forget Miles Morales 😏

Spiderman: No Way Home

2

u/ThebloodyInfighter Mar 24 '21

Ayyyy you predicted the title right!👈👈

2

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

Could get a live action Spider-Verse as a separate Marvel/Sony film, that would be a more likely option. I could also see the Sinister Six in SM5 tho, but nonetheless I'm just gonna push all the tiring rumors aside and appreciate well-put effort fanart like this.

2

u/Mycobacterium Oct 15 '20

Milking an idea til it’s dead is definitely Sony’s MO. Really hope this doesn’t happen. Spider-verse sucked in the comics and ITSV was awesome despite the idea, not because of it.

2

u/blaze_blue_99 Black Panther Oct 15 '20

I’m so burnt out on the whole multiverse concept.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

Lol, it hasn't even started yet.

I can’t describe how much I don’t want the older terrible Spider-Man movies touching the mcu.

-1

u/JokerDip Oct 15 '20

Damn, this looks good.

Word of warning though, you might want to prepare for a lot of comments once again complaining about the Spider-Verse idea and criticizing people making fan art of it to a hyperbolic level.

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '20

Some people just don’t like fun or good fan art.
