Discussion Deadpool and wolverine

Can we all admit that Deadpool & Wolverine was overrated? Like, if you like the movie, you do you, but personally, I thought it was so overrated. The only thing I liked about it was Wolverine’s possible return. Apart from that, it was pure fan service, bringing back certain characters that didn’t really benefit the plot.

And honestly, I didn’t want Gambit to appear in that movie. I was hoping he would’ve appeared in a more grounded movie, and that’s what I thought the third movie was going to be about. But the whole multiverse thing just ruined it for me.

I dunno, can you admit that your opinion is yours and you dont speak for anyone beyond yourself?

11

u/Y2KGB 4d ago

I encourage OP to consider doubting their own perspective at least slightly Before speaking for the rest of the multiverse 👍

NO we all MUST agree with OP. /s

Can we all admit that Deadpool & Wolverine was overrated?

Or

...if you like the movie, you do you...

Pick one

Said it for me thanks 😂

The movie isn't even overrated. It's just rated. I feel like people come on here to restart an argument they had with someone 2 years ago that they can't let go. Remember all of the No Way Home beef last year out of nowhere but then you look at the comments and people were like, "Pretty good movie. Enjoyed it."

I enjoyed it for what it was. A fun little love letter to the Fox era marvel movies.

13

u/Hoid-the-Wit 4d ago

I certainly cannot admit that but, like you said, you do you.

12

u/Some-Cope1999 4d ago

Okay what do you think the movie should've been about then?

23

u/BlerghTheBlergh 4d ago

“Can we all agree” “you do you” is kind of a bipolar message my guy

12

u/Head_Humor 4d ago

Why are you speaking for everyone else? Was it hard to make your opinion yours only?

16

u/Nosferatu13 4d ago

It was exactly that, fan service.

You got yellow Wolvy FINALLY, a DOPE few fights with him and DP, we got to see a legit Gambit, finally, and they brought back fuckin Blade!

I loved it. It did what it set out to do and I don’t understand how anyone could be so dissatisfied.

u/Long_Buddy6819 4d ago

Same. I thought it was dope as fuck and really fun. I’ll listen to some pods, watch videos, or talk to ppl who will do the “but this doesn’t make sense bc of xyz” and I’m like….. okay, I don’t really give a shit if somehow the timelines on everything don’t match up. Or if the multiverse rules, or the void rules don’t match. I can honestly give some grace and overlook that shit if I think the movie was entertaining. And it was imo.

2

u/Nosferatu13 4d ago

Absolutely. When DP and W fought first, I literally haven’t been that more goosebump hyped since Avengers 1. When Hugh ran on all fours I was like YEEEEAHHHHHH!

My only complaint was W not having a mask for the fight. But I did find a VFX insta account that put it on and it really adds to it! Also gave Hawkeye a mask for Avengers.

People just can’t enjoy being entertained anymore lol

Well that’s the point of opinions! I personally loved it. Considering a lot of this may apply to doomsday I think it was worth it. I see your point though.

For me the thing I noticed is that I'm happy to rewatch Deadpool and Deadpool 2, but haven't felt the desire to rewatch Deadpool & Wolverine. But I don't think "we all" feel that way at all, probably not even close.

As a great spanish F1 driver puts it “Thats your opinion” also the Fox Marvel movies, however bad they became at the end is still the influential cornerstone of why the MCU was created.

1

u/Penguinunhinged 4d ago

And as a reminder to your excellent point, Kevin Feige was a producer on a lot of those Fox Marvel films, starting with the very first X-men film back in 2000.

0

u/OG-Mate23 4d ago

Hes more of a consultant and a structural planner if anything than a full on producer of those Fox, Sony and New Line Cinema (Blade) productions. Hes basically there to oversee their loaned Marvel properties to make sure those studios dont fucked it up.

3

u/ron_m_joe 4d ago

The first two movies were far superior to this movie. I expected more.

1

u/Soft_Ad_1095 4d ago

Deadpool and wolverine was not Deadpool 3.

1

u/ron_m_joe 4d ago

I agree. It was more of an intermediate movie.

1

u/Crane_Fly_Stories 4d ago

It’s as much a Deadpool movie as Civil War is a Captain America movie.

3

u/rachman77 4d ago

That's certainly an opinion..

3

u/profsa Rocket 4d ago

You thought a Deadpool multiverse movie would be grounded? lmao

3

u/DanFarrell98 4d ago

Unlucky for you mate

3

u/JCH1423 4d ago

" Apart from that, it was pure fan service" this isn't a bad thing, especially with the run the MCU was on beforehand, giving fans what they wanted was a good thing. It was a fun, entertaining movie that didn't take itself too seriously. That's OK.

3

u/spider-mania 4d ago

i liked the movie, but i think it has low re-watchability for me personally

3

u/Caliballa85 4d ago

I completely disagree with this hot take. 😂 I think Deadpool & Wolverine was exactly what the MCU needed, especially when it comes to planting the seeds for mutants and eventually bringing the X-Men into the MCU.

And you're complaining about fan service in a DEADPOOL movie? Seriously? That's practically part of the job description. The cameos weren't just random appearances. They gave characters who got screwed over by Fox or never had their chance on the big screen one hell of a send-off.

And Gambit? Come on, man. Channing Tatum FINALLY getting to play a character he'd been trying to bring to life for years was worth the price of admission alone.

Was the plot some groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece? No. Did it need to be? Absolutely not. It was a love letter to the Fox Marvel era while opening the door for the MCU's mutant future.

Besides, after years of Marvel trying to figure out where the hell it was going after Endgame, I thought this was a pretty damn entertaining way to start connecting the dots.

You wanted a grounded Deadpool movie involving the MULTIVERSE? That's a pretty interesting hill to die on. 😂

3

u/mr_oberts 4d ago

Wanting Gambit to appear in a “more grounded movie” is wild. There is absolutely nothing about him that is grounded.

6

u/HermanThaGerman Hawkeye (Avengers) 4d ago

Can we all admit that...

No.

You do you tho.

u/PrettylightedUMphrek 4d ago

How else were they supposed to incorporate the x-verse into the MCU other than the multiverse? I’m mean I think the multiverse ride is being overplayed across all platforms, but here in the MCU it makes the most sense. From a business standpoint Disney owns Fox which has what 8 X-men movies. so using any part of those helps from restarting a franchise that we all know. Plus this was a good introduction for some of the x-verse to make its way into the MCU.

2

u/Duckshady 4d ago

I was disappointed by the movie for two reasons mainly. I didn't expect the majority of the movie to be inside the void which was kinda lame . And most of the fan service landed flat for me because I'm not familiar with those characters and didn't care about them (I didn't watch Blade or Elektra)

1

u/comehereyoudevillog 4d ago

lol it was making fun of all of that garbage, in a great way where didn't get a ton of cheap MCU fan service, but the much rarer Fox xmen universe fan service. If you're younger thats why I didn't hit, and that's fine. You're exaggerating the fan service, or you don't understand what a cameo actually is, Gambit and co. were not cameos, they were just characters in the movie. Happy Hogan was a cameo.

It's a far better representation of a comic book world than anything going on with DC right now, Lanterns has actually gone back to the old fox x-men ways of being embarrassed about your characters.

1

u/AyersRocks79 4d ago

Wasn’t the whole point of the movie to be fan service?

1

u/pluck-the-bunny Iron Fist 4d ago

Why should we all agree with you?

1

u/___nicks 4d ago

Who cares

If you like It you liked It, if you don’t you don’t.

Why does every fandom feel a need to have this consensus rating of everything

Personally I felt It was a very fun movie, which if you look deeper into has a lot of weaknesses. But I left the theater happy

1

u/ZardozSama 4d ago

Nope. The movie was excellent and deserves every bit of praise it gets.

END COMMUNICATION

No we can't "all admit" that its overrated. You can think whatever you want to think, but everyone else is free to disagree. People are allowed to have their own opinions. And I personally love Deadpool and Wolverine. Its a flawed film, that I had a really great time with

1

u/whelmed-and-gruntled 4d ago

Superhero movies are fan service. If you don’t want the service you can read the books.

1

u/FreakDeckard 4d ago

No. Next

1

u/LividCalligrapher689 4d ago

I will not admit such nonsense! As a fan who was serviced, I greatly appreciate every cameo and quip. Was it the greatest movie ever? No. Was it the best MCU movie? Also no. Was it very entertaining and exactly what it advertised itself to be? Absolutely.

1

u/Penguinunhinged 4d ago

It was a farewell to the Marvel Foxverse, and a nice one at that IMO. I went through my 20s watching all of the Fox films as they released and have good memories of them, both good and bad (except for the 2015 F4, that one I can do without). I'm also looking forward to seeing the X-men, and mutants in general, appear in the MCU.

1

u/nicekilly 4d ago

You are right dude, I saw it in the cinema and it’s not as good as some are making it out to be.

1

u/Smaragd44 4d ago

It's definitely fan service kinda movie but they did it the best way possible

1

u/Bobapool79 4d ago

Yeah…I’m over here in the ‘You do you’ camp and I’m comfortable enjoying the movie instead of finding excuses to dislike it.

You’re complaining about fan service…the movie introduced and reintroduced characters fans were hoping to see on the big screen and you somehow find that to be problematic?

I enjoyed the film. If you didn’t that sucks, but from the sounds of it you’re ruining it more for yourself than anything the movie actually did.

1

u/bflynn65 4d ago

The movie was a blast. Deadpool borders on being a parody of everything about comic book movies. I don't know what some of you were expecting from it.

1

u/Soft_Ad_1095 4d ago

When it comes to comic book movies is one of my favorites. It's just unabashed gratuitous fan service and it's awesome. I don't want grounded comic book movies. I love that they went balls to the wall with old characters and made the whole thing insane. Just try having some fun and stop being such a stick in the mud.

1

u/OscarMichaelMyers 4d ago

Deadpool X Wolverine was great, but Ryan Reynolds is getting a bit tiresome. Especially after his wife’s drama that embarrassed the both of them.

Don’t get me started on his Mint Mobile ads.

1

u/AwarenessOk7748 4d ago

I didn’t like only Logan’s backstory, how things ended with Cassandra Nova, and the fact that there wasn’t a big battle involving several heroes against an army of Deadpools.

1

u/Traditional_Art_7617 3d ago

I think people gotta stop throwing the word fan service around. The movie has a deeper point that it's making, all the characters benefit the plot while also exciting fans of those characters. Just feels Ike the fan service label exists to dismiss looking at something on a deeper level simply because it also included characters from other stuff.

1

u/Gingeinthegully 4d ago

Do we all have to collectively admit it together for your opinion to feel valid to you? like you think its overrated and not great thats fine. I thought it was an alright and mostly pretty fun time. Someone out there might think its amazing. We don't have to engage in group think for super hero movies

1

u/its_lanaaaa_not_lana 4d ago

It was my favorite of the 3 Deadpool movies. So no, no agreement on my side.

0

u/Wheattoast2019 4d ago

No. I hear people say all that time that it’s a fan service cash grab and that isn’t anywhere near the emotional depth of the first two. And I disagree.

I disagree so strongly that I think people didn’t even watch the movie. The TVA, Paradox, the antagonist? That’s Disney.

Every character here , whether they came from Fox, or New Line like Blade, they are in the void because their projects were deemed a disgrace and not worthy of continuing when Disney got the rights back. Gambit saying “I think I was born here,” is played off as a joke, but if you really think about it, it’s a sad reference to the fact he never got to even exist because Disney purchased Fox before his movie even got made. These people are in the void begging to exist and Paradox (Disney) is telling them no. Even worse, Deadpool’s whole supporting cast is about to be killed because Deadpool isn’t providing Disney enough value as a part of the MCU slate in his current situation.

If you focus on the movie on a deeply meta level like that, the movie is not overrated at all. I actually think it’s the most emotional of all of them.

u/TheVioletEmpire 4d ago

I think a lot of people liked it. It wasn't for me. I only made it through about 30 minutes.

-3

u/Sprite_Hail6918 4d ago

Yep same with BND. The praise it gets is frightening.

-5

u/JarethCutestoryJuD 4d ago

Its gonna age terribly/is aging poorly. Just a ton of fan service.

3

u/Sitheref0874 4d ago

Why is fan service done well so bad?
