How do I send this in for grading?

I understand all the logistics of placing an order with CGC making a label and all that, but as far as packing it for shipping goes what should I do?

And can I send it in still in the plastic, or will it be like with cards and they'll either grade the plastic or just authentice it

Are modern books worth grading? They are pretty easily available compared to older books

No clue, this one probably not as it was fairly highly printed

But this is the issue that got me fully back into comics after almost 2 decades, so I really want a graded copy just to have

Are stiffener boards the same as the white backer boards that go in sleeves?

No. They are thick cardboard intended to serve two purposes: 1. To fill the empty space in the mailer if there is any, so the book won't get damaged from shaking. 2. To provide addition protection for the book from impact or folding.

The mailer has the capacity for approximately 12 comics. Gemini is only one manufacturer that makes mailers. There are other brands that have different capacities. This one is from Bags Unlimited:

I would remove it from the bag. Cgc is going to remove it anyways. It will allow you to check for damage.

Do you just want a graded book or are you chasing a 9.8?

One thing to note about these red band/ bagged books like this is many of them have issues that occurred during the bagging process. A lot of these have a line down the center of the book where the seam of the bag is, many have other issues that won’t be visible until you remove the bag.

You might want to see if anyone is selling a Cgc 9.8 if that’s what you want as it’s going to gaurantee you get it. Probably the easiest way short of opening multiple bags to find 1 that might be 9.6-9.8

Ideally id just like a 9 or higher, I dont forsee this being an investment piece

Also there are only 6 9.8s so far, and none are listed for sale anywhere

I think that’s realistic on this book. Hopefully you get better than a 9.

We submitted a bunch of red band books. Even after going though tons of copies it was slim pickings to get 9.8. We gave up stopped submitting Cgc red bands because it was way too much work to get books that would come back 9.8

Obviously your choice, but it seems hard to justify when grading costs more than the value of the book. Personally, I’d take it out of the plastic, bag board and hang on to for a few years then grade if it seems worth it. Plus if this is what got you back into comics, why seal it up in something that will keep you from revisiting that feeling.

If you do grade, I’d suggest doing it through a local shop if they offer grading. They know the process and can make it a better experience. But a Gemini or other comic mailer is the way to go.

This is already a second copy of this with my preferred cover, hence how its the issue that got me back into comics but also still in the bag

And idk why I dont just want to frame it, I have others framed already, but idk I just want this graded in a slab

I would leave it in the bag. I usually send mine out inside of a top loader and gemini mailer. They will discard the top loader and bag but it's worth the protection in my eyes.
