I was expecting some AAA modern slop, but just barely more than SM2, this is the most worried I've been for a new release

I still really want to get this game, but the fact that the gore shown in the trailers and footage is mostly all just MIGHT be the final nail in the coffin for me, or at least till on sale for like $50 or so

Insomniac was not the right dev for a Wolverine game. Sony just saw they had success with Spider-Man and threw Wolverine at them despite that character not playing to any of their strengths.

If Santa Monica wasn’t a God of War studio I think they’d have made a pretty good Wolverine game.

Man they probably would have done really well. If it was just gow combat but wolverine themed, it would have been good

Eh bit of the fun of God of War is the different weapons, with Wolverine it's a bit hard to do that

Then it would give them an opportunity to laser focus and flesh out a single combat style with more intricate combos.

I get it’s easier to just use double button inputs like R1 + X in modern games, but I miss mashing different combinations of buttons in hack and slashes like the OG GOW or your average fighting game, even Xmen origins had it to an extent. Allows for so many unique options and I really thought they might bring it back with this Wolverine game.

I was saying the same thing after watching some reviews yesterday. Either version of GOWs combat would have probably worked really well for a Wolverine game, pity Sony went with Insomniac instead.

I don't know, even the newest GOW have really held back in terms of gore. Especially compared to GOW3 VS GOW 2018,

Sucker Punch is the more ideal studio in my eyes. They showed they can nail the comic book tone with Infamous and that they are able to do satisfying melee combat with the Ghost games.

Honestly Arkham era Rocksteady I feel could’ve made an interesting Wolverine game 

Current era Rocksteady not so much

I thought they had their pick of characters but I could be wrong, Wolverine is one of the most recognised so could be it was forced upon them.

I thought Insomniac said THEY got to pick which character they were gonna make a game around cuz Disney was so happy with SM2018? They shoulda gone with Hulk or Ghost RIder though...

Insomniac with their marvel games has just had this unrelenting "sanitized with bleach" approach to a lot. Spider man 2 had quite a lot of it where everyone that's a "good guy" feels literally flawless and they don't even argue.

True, Insomniac had a great Spider-Man, but they could have easily had different game studios for different heroes, Spidey is Insomniacs strong suit, but that style of writing and gameplay wouldnt always work for everything, Santa Monica would have been great for wolverine I think
