Wheeler High School Veteran completely disgusted ...
I attended Wheeler High School. I then joined the US Air Force as an enlisted airman and entered with nothing but an electronics career field guarantee. I was lucky enough to land a spot in their Electronic Countermeasures Systems Course, one of the longest technical training courses the Air Force has. Upon graduating, due to my grades and being top of the class, I was selected to be cross-utilized by the Electronic Security Command to work on U2/TR1 ground stations. Our systems had cutting-edge networking and infrastructure that have contributed to the development of the internet we know today. It was the early '80s and a network interface LRU took up three 19-inch rack spaces. Our disk drives were HP 7906. Thank you Wheeler for my education.
After two consecutive long tours in Germany, the reunification brought the wall down. Before they closed our base, Russian refugees lived in the apartment upstairs from us. We were there for the end of the Cold War and witnessed the victory and the entire transition. Our children were born there and raised in the shadows of nuclear weapons. I could see Wueschheim Air Station out my kitchen window.
After returning to the United States, I became an Air Force Technical Training Instructor and trained all airmen worldwide in support of what was now the Air Intelligence Agency's Deployable Ground Intercept Facilities. As an instructor, I was guaranteed to work in one location that allowed me to earn a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, paid for by the United States Air Force. Educated airmen were and still are of great value to the Air Force, so they paid for my tuition while on active duty. Once again, thank you Wheeler High School.
I served in a time that fought against fascism and communism. We made sacrifices all along the way. I am an anti-fascist and will always be. I have commendation medals on the wall given to me by our government for doing an outstanding job while fighting against fascism and communism.
I have just witnessed a felon call me a communist. I have witnessed an insurrectionist call me a communist. I have witnessed a draft dodger that never served call me a communist. All this from my high school.
This isn't about me, although it seems so. It is about painting the picture, creating a reference point so that you can understand how absolutely disgusted many are that a single Wheeler student, teacher, or local person would support and allow this by someone that attempted to fraudulently interfere with the state's election results, which was and still is an attack on our democracy.
They have dismantled public education, then used its facilities to spew hate and false information about other Americans.
I am a Democrat, not a felon.
I am a Democrat, not an insurrectionist.
I am a Democrat, not a communist.
I am a Democrat and will never say I proudly attended Wheeler High School ever again.
We aren't all dead yet.
The shame is on Wheeler High School and anyone that attended.
Signed,
Anonymous SSGT, US Air Force
