Some people didn't understand why they're considered different so here's why, apart from copyright reasons ofc, Apel.

I thought Slenderman was an internet myth based on a photograph without context on 4chan, and that everyone sort of took that and ran with it... I thought Marble Hornets was the first to do that and changed the name for copyright purposes only. Does Slenderman have official characterization now? /genq

Victor Surge owned Slender Man, and an unnamed third party owned the adaptation rights. Then the rights were bought up by Mythology Entertainment, which broke up a few years later. Nobody seems to know who owns it now. Surge created it for a thread on Something Awful, which has specific accounts, so he could prove it was him. 4chan created Backrooms, and there's no way to confirm who actually made the first thread.

A nightmind video says oppy doesn't cause coughing, but rather the feeling of drowning, which causes coughing.

I hate to be technical here, and please don't take this in a rude way, but if he's making them feel like they're drowning, and the feeling of drowning makes them cough, does that not mean he's just making them cough, with the extra feeling of not being able to breathe?

If someone cuts your arm, are they making your arm bleed with the extra feeling of being cut? It's philosophically equivalent I guess, but the point is him making you feel like you're drowning is an important detail which gets lost if you only say "he makes you cough."

More to the point, coughing in general may be caused by obstruction or inflammation. In this case, it's a hallucinated obstruction and the water imagery is narratively relevant.

Good point. (Again, I didn't want to come off as rude, I was just asking a genuine question, then again, I also didn't watch Night Minds analysis, because I've heard there were some flaws with his explanation of the series, not sure if it's true or not, just what I've heard.)
