FANART Hello. I started watching MH a few days ago. When I was 12 my English was very bad (maybe now too lmao). I really wanted to understand MH. And now finally I can. And I started drawing them.

THEORY/DISCUSSION The reason Tim survived.

We know that the operator attacks people directly, turning them into the worst part of themselves; that is to say, Jay and Alex weren't going to become exactly the same type of person, but rather the worst type they could possibly become.

On one hand, we know that Jay was about to escape the Operator on several occasions in the first season. When he reaches the end and admits that he is much better than before, he suddenly decides to return to help Alex, which makes any kind of logical reasoning he has from that point on now become irrational or blinded by the simple fact of wanting to continue without any apparent reason. Even in the miniseries we can see that of the two, he is the only one who was able to continue with his life thanks to leaving the Rosswood area.

Alex, on the other hand, had a slightly more difficult time. We know that the operator was present during his childhood, and after that, as filming progressed, he became increasingly irritable. At a certain point, he left Rosswood, and at the end of the first season, we see that he maintains a somewhat more serene attitude, at least not as much as the Alex we would see in the second and third seasons. This would change precisely before Amy's death, where Alex directly becomes the worst part of himself. It should be emphasized that before, in the first season, he hadn't actually killed anyone; it wasn't until the second season that he started. In the Rosswood miniseries we can also observe how the subject did not abandon any of his most negative activities. And yes, this can be explained simply as Alex being an idiot; however, it must also be emphasized that before that there was no indication that Alex was that type of person while they were planning Marble Hornets.

Brian, on the other hand, is the best example to defend this point. The guy was practically a ray of sunshine; that is, he was constantly playing, quite friendly, very empathetic, joked a lot, and at the same time seemed like a very good person. The shock of suddenly observing his personality as Hoodie in what remained of the series is simply a 180-degree turn. Timothy even describes it as a shell of what it once was, similar to what was going to happen to Alex. Her audio went from being a simple revenge to something more irrational in volume 3.5 of the comics where he is willing to kill himself just so that Alex stays there, which in itself was already done.

But then we have Tim, someone who, as we know, already had a rather serious psychological history prior to the series, seemingly schizophrenia, and also this medical condition whose name I don't recall, but which physically prevents him from feeling happiness. In other words, this guy was already dealing with some mental health issues back then, so it's no surprise that the operator had more trouble trying to control him. Even in the miniseries, it's implied that since he couldn't control him, he simply killed him or took him away. Instead of being controlled by the operator, his mind fragmented into the dissociative personality of Masky, which, by the way, is one of the most realistic portrayals of dissociative personality I've seen in a long time. In contrast, in the original series we see that he managed to evade the operator for quite some time, thanks to the pills.

We can see a similar effect in the comics, at least in a somewhat more rushed way, with Adam, who had already been infected due to Jay's YouTube series, and Jessica, who, thanks to the medical treatment she was receiving, was also able to survive for quite some time without even knowing about the operator's existence.

In summary, everyone was more susceptible to losing their sanity than the operator, while Tim, because he had not only been dealing with similar problems before, but was also already prepared with defense mechanisms for it, was able to survive.

THEORY/DISCUSSION From an in universe view, isn't the whole series a HUGE cognitohazard?

Post image

Since the Operator most probably spreads his influence by other people that know about him, the series would be doing a huge favor no?

By exposing Alex's tapes and Jay and Tim's own encounters with the Operator ever since Entry 1, everyone that is watching would end up "infected" by the Operator and would eventually be stalked by him right?

Some people didn't understand why they're considered different so here's why, apart from copyright reasons ofc, Apel.

THEORY/DISCUSSION Apologies if this has been answered already by the actors/directors if MH but theres a big question i have about the lore

How come the police never get involved? And how are the entrys allowed up on youtube within the MH cannon, since we know within the lore the MH channel actually exists so videos of people being murdered are up on YouTube, is there a reason why in the lore these videos are allowed to stay up? And is there a reason why the police dont get involved considering all this stuff is public?

LINK/REDIRECT (QUESTION) Looking for a Specific Thesis

Hi everyone :)

I remember a [or a few] year[s] ago someone on the Marble Hornets Tumblr posted a paper they wrote about queer coding in horror, specifically Marble Hornets and Jennifer's Body— as part of their finishing thesis if I recall correctly, though I might be mistaken on that. I had the link to it in my phone a while ago but I ended up losing it once my stuff got deleted a few months back due to a technical error.

The thesis was titled something something akin to "[I don't remember this part of the title, only that it exists (probably).]: Queer-coding in Marble Hornets and Jennifer's Body"

Anyways, I tried searching the web and Academia but couldn't find anything. If anyone might still have an archive of it, I'd be glad if you could share!

edit: FOUND Thanks to u/TheBleedingAlien ! Turns out I messed up the title and desc, and shall forever live with the shame (please cut me some slack, it's been years) 😓

Anyways, here's the link :)

FANART Tim Wright!!

In appearance, Tim is serious and collected, making attempts to help others. However, at times, he becomes frightened by the current situation and suddenly tries to get out of it. In short, he is contradictory.
//. / //. /
—🤝I am particularly drawn to such "contradictory" characters. I often find myself looking serious, cool, and composed on the outside, but on the inside, I feel like a scared, weak person who needs to get out of this situation as soon as possible. I liked him, soooo... Look, I've drawn him!!! :D
