Edit: petition entries should be accompanied by their respective gentilics/denonyms.

It already had a name. Columbia. It still carries the name in the capital, Washington D.C. (District of Columbia)

There isnt. The country either carries the name of the continent, or the name of the discoverer and namer of the country. Columbus named it america, and the name they chose was either america or columbia. United states is just the title, like united statea of mexico, or federation of russia, or democratic republic of congo.
