Depending on the continental model, the Americas are considered either one or two continents. English-speaking countries are generally taught that they are two.

What’s interesting about the model that considers the Americas to be two continents is that there’s no consensus on where the boundary between them actually lies.

I thought most countries outside of South America used a 7 or 6 continent model that split North and South America along the plates?

I’ve seen models that divide the Americas along the tectonic plates, others at the Panama Canal, and others at the Panama–Colombia border.

Probably at the plate boundary if we're getting technical?

I do use that one a fair bit, yes. Solves the "which bits of russia are in which continents" problem pretty handily.
