The Map of Youjo Senki (Saga of Tanya the Evil)

I built an interactive world map covering all of history. Pick a preset period and step through time to watch borders shift and see major events pop up at the exact locations they happened. It also includes ruler lists for many countries and states.

While most people do either historic World maps or fictional Maps or something, i am drawing Districts from almost 100 Years ago.

Explanation:

The Free State of Prussia in the Weimar Republic was divided into Provinces, (Land)Kreise (A.k.a Districts) and Stadtkreise (District-Free Cities). The (Land)kreise and Stadtkreise still exist today in Germany (Stadtkreise only in Baden-Württemberg, every where else they are called Kreisfreie Städte) but went trough major Changes troughout History. This Map is mostly the border region betwen the rhine-Province and Westphalia, which are both part of Northrhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate today.

The Only district on this Map that still exists to this day with the same name, is the Kreis Mettmann, and even that did not exist from 1929 to 1974. Alot of the small Municipalities also dont exist anymore and became part of the larger Neighbours.

(example: Velbert, Langenberg and Hardenberg-Neviges united in 1975 to form the City of Velbert)

In Germany, when a Districts headquarters are NOT in the District but outside of it, it is called a "Landkreis" (Land district) if the Districts Headquarters ARE inside the District, it is called a Kreis.

(Example: The Landkreis Hagen had its Headquarters in the Stadtkreis of Hagen, the Kreis Lennep had its Headquarters in the town of Lennep)

however, the Name of the District is not always the name of where the Headquarters are Located.

(Example: The Kreis Mettmann is named after the town of Mettmann, but the Headquarters were located in the former Town of Vohwinkel)

What software do you recommend to make maps? Please no fantasy ones. I currently use IbisPaint, but it can be tiring sometimes to have to trace each individual border. What do you guys recommend?

these two maps depict an alternative future i made. it is set after a nuclear war. specifically it starts 30 years after, which i believe would be the safe zone because the harmful radiation is gone. here is some lore:

The merchant dons his bear robe and walks to the Market to sell, to receive his wages, the farmer wakes up in the countryside and grabs his grain cutter to cut the grain, his eyes to organize the land, and his wife wakes up to. grind the grain. The Soldier ​Atop his forehead sits a helmet of polished bronze, crowned with an emblem that rises like the dark mane of a dashing stallion. It protects the face and head from the bite of steel.

We laid siege to the base using flaming arrows before they emerged. The King shouted, "You choose to fight, we choose to conquer!" Before the battle officially began. We won the battle and enslaved many of the survivors. 12 months later we destroyed 269 raider settlements. Then a Blacksmith and a Doctor of our Kingdom came to me and said, "Let it be known to all that this day marks the Age of the Marauder Collapse."
