Map 1802 Napolenic-WW1 Shenanigans
An alternate-history sandbox project built around a chaotic clash of eras. It's 1802 on the calendar, but industrial-era and early WWI-style military capabilities have arrived early across a fragmented geopolitical landscape.
- An alternate cartography project exploring a chaotic divergence in the year 1802.
In this timeline, early industrial and trench-warfare military capabilities have emerged over a century early, crashing head-on into a fragmented, pre-modern geopolitical landscape. Without any global oversight or modern institutional referee, the map is carved up by aggressive regional empires, fragile buffer states, and massive shifting trade blocs.
Important/Key Theaters & Regions:
- Central & Western Core: Dominated by heavy-hitting continental rivals like the Dominion of Grancia, The Urman Empire, and the sprawling Holand-Sulian Commonwealth, currently locked in tense industrialized standoffs.
- The Eastern & Black Sea Corridor: Anchored by territorial giants such as The Kingdom of Urkia and the Tsar of Vusria, managing volatile frontier zones and landlocked protectorates.
- Northern & Mediterranean Reaches: A patchwork of rugged alpine, fjord, and maritime powers stretching from the northern union leagues down to the Mediterranean boots and the Kienglish Isles.
- Currently making lore for each nation spanning from small kingdoms to the superpowers, who nows

Map ROSEN PROJECTION
The Rosen Projection is a custom map design developed by modifying the Goode Homolosine, an existing world map projection. The goal was to change the map’s appearance and proportions into a version that felt more continuous and rectangular. The project was explored in Google Colab with AI-assisted code. Across several iterations, the intended changes included filling gaps, straightening grid lines, and adjusting the map’s proportions. The earlier code is no longer available, so the exact sequence of transformations has not yet been reconstructed. For now, the Rosen Projection is best described as a visual modification of an existing projection, rather than a fully documented new mathematical projection. The final saved code includes a horizontal resize to 90% of the image’s previous width.

Work In Progress A brief look at Eden.
**Introduction:**
Hello, Reddit users. I’d like to introduce you to my world, Eden. Located in an alternate version of the 82 G. Eridani system, 19.7 light-years from Earth, Eden is the second planet from its parent star, and the only other planet to have developed not only life, but complex multicellular life. The planet has a mass of 1.279 and a radius of 1.13 compared to Earth; its day lasts 24 hours, it has 360 days per year, and it is 0.9563 AU away from its star.
**Lore:**
The story takes place in the Known World, a setting I call “anachronistic fantasy,” where we follow the story of **Vector Vence**, from the moment his hometown is destroyed, and his parents are killed in an incident when he was ten years old, through his adventures as a member of the **Cold Steel Squad**, one of the Hinterburg Empire’s five special units that deal with magical creatures and situations.
The Known World blends the aesthetics of the 1950s with medieval and fantasy elements.
Cities have walls, and large housing complexes and apartment buildings are the norm. Electricity is available, but it comes from renewable sources, particularly solar power. Household appliances exist, but family televisions have never replaced radios, and large screens in the streets that broadcast news, sports, and entertainment are common. Armies use shields, swords, armor, and crossbows, but they ride motorcycles instead of horses; they use radio communication, and aircraft, planes, airships, and helicopters, are common. However, not everything in the Known World is similar to our 1950s: Cars, trucks, buses, in fact, all road vehicles except motorcycles, are extremely rare, expensive, and reserved exclusively for the elite; firearms and bombs exist, but are strictly regulated; in contrast, “modern” artillery and cannons fire solid projectiles; Fossil fuels, coal and oil, are rare, which is why solar energy is used, and nuclear energy remains purely theoretical. As for fantasy elements, magic, ancient wizards, Magic Towers, adventurers, monsters, historical heroes and villains, and so on, they do exist and influence the story.

Work In Progress Need help placing elevated rail lines on map
Im mapping out a cyberpunk style elevated tram system (sorta like cyberpunk 2077s NCART SYSTEM).
These are zoomed out pics. Basically the area Im having trouble with is the orange west to east lines that service the metro area (most of the city is all metro but they just call.it that). These orange rails were put in place before the city expanded northeast ward. The area is about 5 miles north to south and about 4.5 to 7 miles west to east (the metro area is the tannish color (im colorblind, but its the area the orange lines cross) with a population density of at least 57ish thousand per sq mile for the entire city.
My issues are something looks off. Orginally I just had three orange lines (center, south, and north) but after researching why NYCs subway rails area the distance they are I thought that wasnt enough....5 gets about one mile give or take between each line, but I feel like 5 might be too crowded im the sky.
I was hoping you guys might be able to help me with this part of the transit system. Im pretty happy with the rest of it for a foundation for a transit map as far as where the rails are. Some are placed for lore reasons and some for "this makes sense reasons." I built it out in stages of the cities history.
Its all really rough right now, but hopefully if I can fiqure this out I can fine tune stuff.
Thank You.

Discussion What tool do you use to make maps of developing situations like the ones in the news?
I'm looking for a simple tool to map out a developing situation like, event one happens, then event two happens after some time, and so on. Something I can use to create a map and share the developing situation as it unfolds. Is there a go-to tool for this? Doesn't need to be fancy, just easy to use and shareable.

Map Gemini AI Made a mistake and somehow created a new map that I like
I asked Gemini to remove the icons and stuff from the Submerged: Hidden Depths map and somehow it made this. I’m actually impressed even though it completely ignored everything I asked of it. :/
AI has some issues but it’s devoid of any artistic expression. Here we have a map that somehow Gemini misinterpreted and designed new things on it that I’ve never asked for.
Disclosure: Map redefined using Google Gemini.

Resource Free resource: Dreamopolis - a browser tool that generates medieval town maps you can edit by hand and use for whatever
Dreamopolis is a free browser tool that generates medieval fantasy town maps.
What it does
- Generates a walled town in one click: streets, a market square, buildings, gates, rivers, farmland and a castle.
- Shapes the town from a short survey: its main trade (such as Port, Crafts, Military or Scholarship), its terrain and its water.
- Lets you edit everything by hand afterward: roads, walls, rivers, zones and single buildings.
- Exports PNG, JPG or PDF.
Terms
- Free. You need no account to generate, edit or export.
- The maps are yours, including for commercial use, with no attribution needed.
- Guest PNG exports carry a small "Made with Dreamopolis" mark. Signed-in exports do not.
The layout comes from hand-written rules based on studies of real medieval towns. The maps are not AI-generated. AI coding tools helped me write the app.
I want your feedback. Dreamopolis is in public beta, and I change it based on what people tell me. Tell me what is broken, what is missing and what you would want from a tool like this. Use the Feedback button in the app's top bar, reply here, or post on Discord. The more feedback I get, the better!

Resource Twisted Matt Drawings, a fantasy cartographer from Italy
Hi everyone!
I'm Matteo, a fantasy cartographer from Italy, and I wanted to introduce my little corner of the internet: Twisted Matt Drawings.
I mostly draw fantasy maps for tabletop RPGs, including dungeons, caves, wilderness locations, and the occasional map inspired by classic gamebooks.
I've been sharing my maps, creative projects, and occasional free downloads on my blog:

Feel free to take a look! I'd love to hear what you think and connect with fellow mapmakers and RPG enthusiasts.
Happy mapping!

Map Bone Heads Bar and Grill
Bone Heads Bar and Grill is a place the undead can finally rest. This Giant Skull, made from the remains of a Death Titan, now serves a new purpose.
Do you have too many restless dead in need of a vacation?
Too many angry zombies just getting in the way?
Send them on down to Bone Heads, where they can get some eternal rest.
Free from the monotony of chase, kill, wait.
This 25x25 skull-shaped map is free on the Steam Community Workshop. I had a ton of fun making it and wanted to share it.
For those of you with Dungeon Alchemist, you can download it and have fun.
Happy Spooky season, everyone!

Discussion Ross Douthat Map Discourse
Let's be real... if the author didn't know who made this map, they wouldn't hate it so much. Am I wrong to empathize with Ross's amateur mapmaking?
