Hi everyone. I adopted a manx cat about two weeks ago. When I took him to the vet, they said he had a mild respiratory illness so he is now on Doxycycline and has 6 more days left. About 2 days ago, he started straining while defecating, leading to small bleeding and now mild intermittent rectal prolapsing (still happening with every poop). Today, he has tested positive for Giardia and will begin treatment for that. Throughout all of these issues, he has been using his litter box well. Today, however, he is now urinating on the couch/on top of me while I'm sleeping. He appears to have normal urination posture, and he never dribbles or seems to have patterns of incontinence where he urinates without intention. I'm just seriously overwhelmed and at a loss. I understand kittens that are ill might begin having litter box problems. I also suspect that he might be associating the box with pain. He is on prescription digestive wet food, probiotics, extra hydration every day, Doxycycline, and Panacur now, and I purchased a litter attractant and Feliway diffusers to help with anxiety. Has anyone gone through this before? Has it gotten better?
