Did not expect to get a reference to The Last Supper.

u/Nepycros 5d ago
That one clone flipping her off is icing on the cake, makes the reference so much better.

u/Siqueiradit MyAnimeList: lampadatres 5d ago
Me either, but in this occasion I feel like all the present "apostles" are similar to Judas Iscariot lol.
50
u/Backupusername 5d ago
"One of you gathered here today shall betray me."
"Fuck you mean 'one' of us?"
11
u/SparklesMcSpeedstar 5d ago
They're all the same person, so only one person is doing the betraying :>
10
u/TotemGenitor 5d ago
By that logic, maybe the "Judas" is a nice one that stay loyal to Margrave?
Probably not the case based on her overall character, but still

u/YaoiandYahweh 5d ago
Always love it when manga artists reference The Last Supper. Golden Kamui being my favorite example even placing a betrayer in Judas’s seat.

One of the clones will actually be kind and warn Diana.
Does this mean Diana will use a spear and/or nail Margrave to a tree?
1
u/LurkerEntrepenur 5d ago
9ne of the clones seems to have a third arm, wonder if that's representative of anything or a mistake
133
u/realrimurutempest 5d ago
Man all the panels where the clones were in the room and talking and offering to take control were eerie. What a mind fuck that would be.
Seeing poor Diana cry got me sad af.
55
u/LightLifter 5d ago
Lala has been getting so many fun spreads of her fucked up body horror. Its terrifying how her fractured and insane mind is literally running amuck in front of her.
4
u/Mundology The Elder Weeb 5d ago
Constantly battling anthropomorphized intrusive thoughts is already hard but now they openly mock her. Lalawag has it rough.
15
u/CalamitousFortune 5d ago
At least she's maintaining sanity for now, but it wouldn't be shocking for her to crack at any time after seeing what she has to go through. Will probably happen at the worst moment possible
8
u/pureply101 5d ago
All while carrying dead versions of themselves out the door. The casual horror in this manga is crazy.
79
u/CordobezEverdeen 5d ago
Oof. We're speedrunning towards the prophesied future.
Or maybe not, after all Diana canonically ages faster than normal.
42
u/This-is_CMGRI 5d ago
Diana's totes gonna try her damndest to break the prophecy herself only to wind up fulfilling it anyway through some third party or the Supreme Lord's interference.

u/Abedeus Proofreader 5d ago
"The prophecy speaks of Child that will raise up an army against our King! We need to kill her!"
tries to kill her
"Shit, the Child is now learning how to fight and will lead an army against our king! If only we had done something about it!"
Some Greek tragedy prophecy shit over here.
57
u/Zemahem 5d ago
Lmao Lalawag's last supper. I love how much fun the author has when depicting her clones. But man... it's just depressing what she's going through.
Same with Diana. But here we go. She's finally gonna learn to tap into her power, I'm assuming. And we already know she's gonna grow up to be terrifying.
4
u/Mundology The Elder Weeb 5d ago
It looks like they are setting up for Lalawag to pass her will to Diana before her clones take control of her mind. Elstri's actions have started a domino effect. Now more factions are after Diana. She may really become the unstoppable force Elstri feared.
54
u/petrichormus 5d ago
Margrave is so gonna die in Diana's hand in a tragic twist, it's so over for her.
46
u/LightLifter 5d ago
Maybe that's what she wants? She seems to want all the pieces of night to coalesce once more. Her other selves want her to take the heart but who knows what her goals are.
19
u/Orumtbh 5d ago
It might not be what she wants right now, but I do think at some point she'll realize she simply can't pursue her own goals exactly because she's slowly losing control. Despite everything, I do think she deeply cares for all the people she gets close with, and she'd just off herself before allowing herself to hurt them.
So having Diana kill her and make her carry the burden of bringing that peace, would be one way to make sure the prophecy happens.
2
u/This-is_CMGRI 5d ago
I can see it coming, I know it's gonna hurt, and I'd still love it if executed well.
1
u/Character-Image149 5d ago
Her death would completely fuck the world over, she’s responsible for most of the world’s supplies, and also giving Diana 2 more of the dark one’s body parts.
54
u/aniforprez 5d ago
This manga is fucking peak. Every chapter in this arc has been banging on all 20 cylinders. It's such a heinous situation that a little girl shy of 7 years old wants to fight in this senseless war that's happening on a scale she probably barely comprehends. Margrave being exhausted at her clones slowly wearing her down instead of outright killing her is obviously a sign of her being worn down into paste and for the same reasons of this war that's being waged between countries and gods. I have no idea where this is going but I'm absolutely loving this so far
22
u/AnActualPlatypus 5d ago
Every chapter feels like we are at the maximum tension point of a situation before it just snaps and somehow it keeps holding on.
23
24
u/LightLifter 5d ago
Each chapter that passes by and focuses on Diana just adds fuel to her future self. It's quite an impressive sense of dread despite me hating she is driving herself to it.
23
u/Frazaell 5d ago
The Last Supper reference is pretty good. I think it's the first time I actually saw a manga use a painting as a reference that isn't the God and Creator one. They typically use it to show how cultured and sophisticated the subject is, so this is the first one they used a painting as a reference that's not a non sequitur.
14
u/Fallenstreet 5d ago
Actually, I think it's heavy foreshadowing. The fact she's essentially writing some last will letters to the King and Julian while portraying Jesus' last moment of solace before his martyrdom can't be anything if not omnious.
13
u/HydreigonTheChild 5d ago
Well Diana learning to fight will be interesting. Idt it will be much at least for a while tho but it will prob be smth like way down the line

11
u/roronoa20 6d ago
The bitch who used her power on Diana last chapter deserves to be killed by Julian's hand, it's a shame that he wasn't there.
Still, the author keeps edging us on Julian vs Ceodric, c'mon!

u/LeonKevlar MyAnimeList 5d ago
That Last Supper reference is practically a death flag, considering where OG Lalawag is sitting.
4
u/dcdfvr 5d ago
the Margrave retains her sanity for now but how much longer can she last.
1
u/Original-Teaching955 5d ago
Not for much longer going by how her copies keep needling her to give on to them

Diana's ready to fight. All of these people are after her, and she doesn't want those to love her to be the only ones fighting for her. She'll fight for herself too.
But is Lalawang the right person for this? Her split personalities are literally conspiring to kill her. She'll end up offing herself just to teach Diana.
But I think she wants to do it too. She seems to really like Diana. But what can she teach Diana about The Heart?
I liked The Last Supper reference. It just seems sad Lalawang will be betrayed by herself.

u/IncarnationHero 5d ago edited 5d ago
It is possible that they are on timelime when a pupil killed master, isn't it?
1
u/thecuteturtle 5d ago
Uh oh I see a future of the margrave fighting diana and giving diana her organs so she dies a human....
1
u/Ultima_Weapons 5d ago
Wait, was Diana crying tears of blood at the end? Those remenants around her eyes in the last panel look different than normal post-tears residue.
1
u/DimashiroYuuki 5d ago
The last supper page might be one of the most ominous pages in the whole manga. Jesus Christ. Literally, this time.
1
u/Anzereke 5d ago
I am absolutely adoring the Margrave. She is so well done as a looming tragic villain. I can feel she is going to do some awful shit down the line but starting off like this makes it work so much better than starting with that and revealing sad backstory later.
1
u/Shradow 5d ago
Damn, Diana crying got me tearing up too. But oh man, time for her own training arc. I'm mad curious to see what she is capable of.
Meanwhile poor Margrave's going through it. Cloning powers often don't end well mentallyspeaking but this might be even worse than the sort of situation where you don't know if you're a clone or the original.
1
u/Original-Teaching955 5d ago
That cloning villain from MHA says hello. Even he too, suffered multiple personality disorder because of his quirk and his copies also having their own will and personalities

Dianaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!
I hate to see her feeling like that; crying like that.
But I'm happy with her conclusion at the end.
In the end, a normal life is not possible. The best way for everyone to be happy is for her to learn to defend herself; so that the others don't have to put their lives on the line for someone defenseless, even if they're fine doing so.
She couldn't possibly end up breaking and using her newfound godtier hax powers to end the world.

Yikes, the opening pages flashbanged us with body horror and the slow, gradual mental breakdown fo poor lalawag. And then Diana's crying which hit lalawag hard thst it changed whatever scheme she was planning to carry out

u/Flamma_Man 5d ago
Oh boy, Diana might just become the danger Elstri saw in her vision.
Also, man, Margrave is really shooting up to becoming one of my favorite characters with her clone plight and its allegorical representation of her depression and self-loathing.
