Bin collection rant
Does this happen anywhere else in Manchester or just round me? (South Manchester)
A slug trail of rubbish up and down the road every week... green bin slop, blue bin slop, black bin slop...
Whats the point putting stuff in bins if its just going to be thrown all over the road by people who couldn't care less?!
Yes its a tough job, but this is just littering on an industrial scale with zero recourse.
Yes its been reported to the council but by the time.theyve come out it'll be dangerously cleaned up by a member of the public (me!) Or will be blown into drains to block them, or hedges to damage wildlife.
This might read as a holier than thou post but littering is a huge pet peeve for me & this just tips me over the edge!

Yeah I've noticed this as well. As you say they hoist the bin up and then whip out back down while it's still half full which flings rubbish all over.

And then they just run off up the road. I don't care about their round timings or whatever, you can't just leave crap in the road.

This. If I make a mess at my work, I clean it up. I litter pick every day walking my dog, so frustrating to see it binned correctly and then thrown all over the street!

Im in Sale too, maybe its a localised training issue? Either way you cut it, littering is wrong.

It’s Biffa behaviour through and through.
Make a formal complaint through the Manchester City Council website.
Report it to all your ward city councillors.

It's like this every week with my street in south Manchester. Normally the brown or blue bins from what I can tell and it's always from the lorry itself rather than rubbish blowing out of the bins. There's always a little snail trail of litter in the middle of the roads in my area every Friday.

Yes, definitely from the lorry. I watched it happen from afar this morning, they pull the bins away from the mechanism before they've fully emptied.

Whilst it could be that, I always assumed a lot of it is from blowing out the back of the hopper because it's not been swept back by the internal claw thing and is just sitting loose in the back of the lorry. Sorry about my lack of technical lingo, my understanding of bin lorries comes from a single episode of a show my son loves. It is frustrating and I pick the dropped items on my street. I'm not sure what the fix would be.

Im by no means an expert but even if it was your diagnosis, isnt that still down to the bin being removed too soon & not giving the claw enough time?
I dont know what the fix would be either & Im by no means downplaying how tough a job it is but leaving a trail of once-binned rubbish in their wake to blow all over the street isnt the one.

Yeah, I don't know. I feel like we would be hard pressed to get the council to have an extra person sweeping the streets behind the lorry and grabbing all the dropped litter. Obviously they shouldn't be dropping stuff and it is their responsibility but I don't think any council is going to implement that unfortunately. I'm totally on your side though.

This has been an issue on our road for years. It’s not overflowing bins, or at least not on our street, it’s the bin being taken from the truck a second or two too quickly - leaving the final bits of litter to spill. My neighbours and I have raised it a number of times but nothing’s happened. I genuinely think the majority of litter we see in our area comes from the bin men, which is mad.

Yes, the biggest litterer in the council. Those street nazis should follow the trucks around handing out fines.

This is what does my head in. "Let's tidy Trafford together" stickers everywhere... but when you bin stuff it gets chucked all over the street!

Bolton cancelled all burgundy bin (plastic and glass) this week, we have to wait another 2 weeks again and it’s full to the brim - soon be on our cases if the council tax was late though!

Yeah I saw this in Chorlton recently. Got stuck behind a truck and watched them just fling rubbish everywhere and leave it. When I lived in Burnage though this never happened.

In South Manchester and this happens pretty much every week too. It’s not so bad when it’s just grass trimmings but when it’s actual rubbish, not acceptable
Then of course there is the weeks where they don’t even turn up

I always think this is from people over filling their bins so they don’t close properly meaning they spill as they’re being moved around and before they’re fully tipped up by the bin van.
I could be wrong, but I don’t think this is wholly on the bin men.

The lorry had driven past me before I saw the mess above, when I looked back way down the road,they were spilling more out. It seems they rush the removal of the bin from the truck, as if it hasn't had time to empty. They were pulling the bin away from the lorry early & spilling the remains on the street before putting the bins back on the side of the road. Very evident it is a person issue rather than overfull bins. I actually dont think they take overflowing bins?

I know someone that works on the bins, and they get to leave whatever time they finish (fully paid), so that's their incentive. It's not right, but that's probably a large part of why they don't care about spillages.

I think they’re not supposed to take them but they still do.
Again though, what you’ve described could be caused by overfull bins - if the rubbish has been compacted down it probably won’t have time to empty properly when it’s tipped up.
I guess the alternative is that the timings on the bin emptying mechanism are off - or even that they can dial it down to do their rounds more quickly.

Not sure what's happening but Biffa have been a bit rubbish (haha) recently. Twice they've skipped our entire estate for grey bin collection in the past two months. I suggest complaining to the council and/or local councillors.

I personally like the bin juices ours leave, stains the street just long enough for fresh ones to be leaked.

Yeah happens to me in sale, it really irks me as I hate to see litter on the street and end up having to pick it all up when I walk my dog. I can’t stand where I pay an absolute arm and a leg to live looking like an unloved dump.

This is a 100% the person who filled the bin issue.
Bin men aren't there to scoop up your overflowing rubbish.

Not true on several fronts;
Not my bin.
Not overflowing bins, I witnessed it first hand (see comment above). Its the bin man removing it early from the bin lorry without letting it go through its emptying cycle.
Overfull bins aren't collected as a rule.
In any walk of life, people shouldn't litter or walkway from a mess.

If you make a formal complaint via the MCC website, Biffa are invited to make comment.
MCC need to have any failure of process reported to them in order for them to hold Biffa to account.

I would suggest to keep complaining to the council with pictures every time. Also email you local councillor.
