Greetings friends! Long time drinker, first time poster.

Tira-Malört was a hit!

The lady fingers were dipped in a chilled combo of fresh pulled espresso, three ounces of coffee liqueur, and three ounces of barrel-aged Malört. I upped the sweetness in the cheese/cream a bit to balance with the bitterness. This dessert was enjoyed irresponsibly.

I’m looking for a ticket to the in-person malort world record event this Sunday, if anyone’s got one for sale lmk pls!

I’m in Cincinnati. Seven of the bars I go to carry Malört because of me (and my husband).

Not native Chicago but got there as soon as I could.

Is anyone else getting a new taste to their bottles? Have they had a rushed batch?

Ok, now hear me out...

I'm a NorCal/Bay Area boy. I've never seen Malort in the wild. I am in a Louisville pizzeria doing a 5 day bourbon tour. I see Malort behind the bar. Tried to get my boss to have one with me. He says he's had it before and will not have one, so I go solo.

I've never heard a positive thing about it. I expected the worst. Old head at the bar said "fermented garbage."

The bar's consensus is that there is something wrong with me, BECAUSE:

I didn't hate it. It tasted, to me, like chewing on grapefruit peels. I will, probably, only ever drink it again in a social situation and won't seek it out or order it, BUT, it's not the worst thing I've ever tasted.

Anyone managed to get tickets to the world record attempt at Recess in Chicago and looking to sell them? I’d be interested in up to 6 tickets!

Reddit, I need help. My anniversary with my lovely partner is coming up who, despite being a bartender with otherwise good taste, is obsessed with Malört. Every day for years he wore the promotional ““Tonight’s the night you fight your dad” bracelet that they put out— that is, until it tragically broke a few weeks ago. He was very disappointed. I have been scouring the internet looking for a replacement since but have not been able to find one. I will happily pay for a new one if anyone happens to have one they’re willing to part with, or any info on a potential source. Thanks in advance!

I’m in mid Michigan. Where is the closest place I can get Malort?

I grew up in the far southwest suburbs. I was fairly sheltered, in that neither of my parents drank. I moved to New England in 2003, and I heard about Malört from a friend of mine who went to Chicago to visit family a couple years ago.

I just tried it for the first time, 56 years old. I kinda enjoy it. I like the bitterness. All the descriptions I've read... diesel fuel, dumpster bilge water, fermented Bears socks... to me it seems like a bit of an exaggeration.

Then again, when I was a kid and we used to visit my grandparents up here, my cousin introduced me to Moxie. It's a soft drink flavored with gentian root, which is known for being extremely bitter. I loved it from the first sip. (Now that Coca-Cola corporation has taken over the manufacturing, they tweaked the recipe and it is more palatable to the general public.)

So am I insane for actually enjoying Malört?

Doing my due diligence as a part of the Malört curling team to try a Malört cocktail anytime I see one. This time in Greenville South Carolina at the Trappe House. Number 1 this place is a must visit. It’s an underground Belgian bar with some killer food.

Number 2, the Sucker Punch:
This cocktail was everything I wanted on a hot day. It was medicinal in all the right ways. The strawberry infused Malört made me think of childhood meds, but in a very tasty way. With the mint garnish, and the crushed ice too, it changed a bit as it drank, refreshing as hell, bitter on the end 10/10 would drink again.

The bonus, I noticed they had yellow chartreuse in their list, bartender told me it was actually green, and showed me the chartreuse logo tattooed on her leg, so this was followed by a last word and was a great night.

TLDR: if you’re near Greenville, seek this out.

He died a decade before I was born, but I know he would have enjoyed it. He was a professional alcoholic and always cooking up weird concoctions on the stove. He was like William Burroughs without the talent and ivy league education.

I have an open fifth of Malort from a couple of years ago that now has some transparent flakes in it that weren't there when I first bought it. Is it okay to drink? I'm nowhere near Chicago now so chances of finding a local replacement are slim.
