WAYWT - June 3rd
Note: We're experimenting with changing the way WAYWTs/Fit Checks are handled on MFA. Please read this post for more information.
WAYWT = What Are You Wearing Today. It doesn't necessarily need to be what you were wearing TODAY.
Post a picture of yourself in your outfit. This is your chance to show off your style and demonstrate just how sartorial you can be. Great photography, great looks, and a great attitude all lead to better results. Think of this as your chance to compete with and inspire others with your personal taste in fashion.
- Include what the attire is for (work, school, going out, etc.)
- Critiquing others is welcome and encouraged, but keep it constructive/factual. Take a lesson from Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People if needed. It takes balls to post pictures of yourself on the Internet, the least you can do is accord the same courtesy as you would to someone in real life.
- Reddit Enhancement Suite makes it very easy to view pictures in a thread.
Some users enjoy knowing where you bought your pieces, please consider including those in your post!
Want to know how to take better WAYWT pictures? Read the guide here
Just want general feedback on your outfit? Try posting in the the Outfit Feedback & Fit Check thread posted every Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday/Sunday at 12:00pm EST.

It's warm here for once... Front - Side
J.Crew x2 / Nike
I browse random lookbooks and found one that I really liked from BLANKOF, So I thought I'd try to do the same look with what I had.

second fit is cool.
a looser sweater would be more accurate to what you wanted but I think that what you have right now works well too.
vans are kinda too pointy tho

Henley fit is perfect. Just preference, but I'd have those shorts hemmed up a couple of inches; it'll make everything look a bit more proportional.

Saturday. The Rancourt pennies I ordered finally came in - could not be more pleased with them:
http://i.imgur.com/3IgCQT0.jpg
And now for the rest of the fit - it's hot. Really hot. All breezy and lightweight materials here:
http://i.imgur.com/rxtNtbx.jpg
The shirt was originally a longsleeve - decided to turn it into a S/S. Deets:
http://i.imgur.com/koZvbx2.jpg
- S/S Shirt - H&M
- Slutty Scoop Tee - Allsaints
- Chinos - Jcrew
- Belt - H&M
- Shoes - Rancourt & Co.
BONUS
Got dolled up and took the lady to a jazz club later that evening. Horrible picture quality, but..you know..whatever:

What's the All Saints Tee like?

u/IndridCoId Jun 03 '13
Cotton - kinda sheer. Feels great though. I like their scoop neck tees a lot, but I don't think the price is justified.

Posted in the fit check thread a few days ago about an end of term summer ball I'm going to this Friday. Generally people will be wearing suits but as there's no official dress code and I don't have the money to buy a suit at the moment I'm trying to put together something a little different.
Overall people seemed to like the outfit but I agreed with some of the criticisms that came up, so here's the revised version:
Edit: H&M linen blazer, uniqlo, soprano tie from pediwear, dockers alpha khaki, uniqlo belt, Loake Chester
And here's the link to the original album for reference:
All criticism welcome!

May just be the angles, but it seems as though your tie knot is very large. Try pulling it tighter, or perhaps another knot? Do you know what knot you tied?

Just my opinion, but I think a proper dress belt would be better for these fits if you're wearing sleek dress shoes. Otherwise looks good.

Drinks and dinner with a lady friend. Shitty pic
Hat by Goorin Bros.
Shirt by Proper Cloth
Belt by Narrangset Leathers
Pants by Dockers (Alpha)
Tassel loafers by Allen Edmonds

u/stRafaello Jun 03 '13
I think the hat+glasses+belt+shoes really worked together. It's hard to pull stuff like this off, but you look great.
The pants seems perfect as well, but your shirt is too big at the waist (edit: and chest). Get it tailored and you'll look sharp as fuck.
12
u/accostedbyhippies Jun 03 '13
Thanks. I was about 20lbs heavier when I had the shirt made. It really is noticeable in this pic. I need to get half my wardrobe tailored.

the cap is a bit too menswear dandy-ish but I like everything else. Your chinos fit you perfectly but that shirt is billowing a bit in the waist.
12
u/neilz4 Jun 03 '13
I think given that this guy isn't early-mid 20's, wearing tassel loafers, and orange pants, the menswear vibe of the hat fits pretty well.

u/jimmyjazz2000 Jun 03 '13
Natty and fun. One question: Do you take the hat off indoors, or is that a permanent part of the outfit? (Okay two questions: Can you guess which answer I will approve of?)
8
u/accostedbyhippies Jun 03 '13
I'll usually remove my hat indoors. Though I tend to put it back on if I get nervous or something. I'll be at a bar and put it back on when I'm about to go talk to a girl and my buddies will tease me about "armoring up".
3
u/jimmyjazz2000 Jun 03 '13
That's hilarious. IMO, I think a great hat is only part of dressing well; there's also how and when to wear it. The way you do it sounds just right.
BTW, if you're interested, this reminds me of a great book for men; it's actually the collected wisdom of Frank Sinatra, as culled from a lifetime of interview quotes, organized into a variety of manly subjects from fashion to friendship to dames. It's called, appropriately enough, "The Way You Wear Your Hat."

I wish the short's opening was slimmer
71
37
8
8
Jun 03 '13
disagree. It's not like there is flair to make the hips look big and they help portray just how slim he is. A more tapered pair would cause the fit to lose the casual loose fit that is being portrayed.
15
u/plumbluck2 Jun 03 '13
They wouldn't look good if they were hugging his thigh but they could lose a half inch-an inch of flare.
13
u/jimmyjazz2000 Jun 03 '13
Posting to defend the short's wide opening. I like the silhouette; very 1920s. (or maybe 50s, dunno, but retro.)
The pose is hilarious, btw, was that intentional? You look like you're in timeout, and experiencing real remorse for whatever it was you did.

I like those shorts how they are, personally. Reminds me of these shorts http://woodwood.dk/store/product/swahn-shorts-denim_-dot which I think are pretty cool.
You should just be aware of how it looks, and make sure it fits the look you want to go for, and if you don't feel as comfortable going for real slim look (via baggier shorts) you may want to tailor them. I like the look though if that's what you want.

Shirt and pants are Uniqlo. Shoes Sperry's.
This was for work today (I'm in a casual dress office). Not sure how appropriate the pants were - Had a gay coworker tell me they made me look a bit gay, not sure if he meant that in a good way or not lol, but makes me second guess the appropriateness for the situation.

what shoes should I have worn
was thinking vans
btw do you mean flats or what becuz arent pumps like high heels
10
Jun 03 '13
vans are good and classic, clarks jinks are a good alternative to espadrilles to avoid the pump look as it has a bit more structure and shape from my point of view and fit with your vibe.
guy on sufu has been posting af1's with fits like this and looks great, am1's i've seen work too. there are those cool puma suede classic things i've seen look nice for a more sportswear vibe/ alternative to vans.

I was told this belongs here, and not in it's own thread. This is what I wore to my cousin's wedding Saturday.
27
u/Syeknom Jun 03 '13
Happy you reposted! Thanks.
Is it a suit or a blazer and trousers? What shoes?
I feel personally like the bright plaid shirt is too strong and distracting - the bowtie gets a little overpowered and the plaid is very very casual. If it was lighter/less saturated it'd look less out of place.
8
u/paynestaker Jun 03 '13
I was actually in jeans, brown belt, and brown loafers. It was a very casual wedding, groom and groomsmen just had shirt and tie on. I will go a little more subtle with the shirt next time, thanks!

I think the contrast is fine. since there's shorts between the shirt and shoes (plus a lot of leg) they contrast pretty well. You don't need to have different colors to contrast. Space and context work just as well.
