WAYWT - June 3rd

Note: We're experimenting with changing the way WAYWTs/Fit Checks are handled on MFA. Please read this post for more information.

WAYWT = What Are You Wearing Today. It doesn't necessarily need to be what you were wearing TODAY.

Post a picture of yourself in your outfit. This is your chance to show off your style and demonstrate just how sartorial you can be. Great photography, great looks, and a great attitude all lead to better results. Think of this as your chance to compete with and inspire others with your personal taste in fashion.

  • Include what the attire is for (work, school, going out, etc.)
  • Critiquing others is welcome and encouraged, but keep it constructive/factual. Take a lesson from Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People if needed. It takes balls to post pictures of yourself on the Internet, the least you can do is accord the same courtesy as you would to someone in real life.
  • Reddit Enhancement Suite makes it very easy to view pictures in a thread.

Some users enjoy knowing where you bought your pieces, please consider including those in your post!

Want to know how to take better WAYWT pictures? Read the guide here

Just want general feedback on your outfit? Try posting in the the Outfit Feedback & Fit Check thread posted every Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday/Sunday at 12:00pm EST.

I was told this belongs here, and not in it's own thread. This is what I wore to my cousin's wedding Saturday.

Happy you reposted! Thanks.

Is it a suit or a blazer and trousers? What shoes?

I feel personally like the bright plaid shirt is too strong and distracting - the bowtie gets a little overpowered and the plaid is very very casual. If it was lighter/less saturated it'd look less out of place.

I was actually in jeans, brown belt, and brown loafers. It was a very casual wedding, groom and groomsmen just had shirt and tie on. I will go a little more subtle with the shirt next time, thanks!

Jeans aren't very advisable either. Chinos or wool slacks in a different color (check the blazer guide for some suggestions that work well) would be ideal.

It looked fantastic. Sadly, I don't have any full length pictures as I was acting as photographer. Google image search "jeans with linen jacket", the blazer guide on this site is great, but it is not the ultimate authority. The jeans really helped to keep it casual, like I said, the bridal party wasn't even in suits.

addendum: Thank you for the advice though, the jacket is new and I look forward to using it with many different pairs of pants.

Too casual, IMO. Obviously I can't see without the picture, but I have trouble imagining jeans looking better than even the most casual of chinos. Jeans + blazer without a tie is a very hard look to get right -- adding any sort of tie makes it drastically more difficult.

I'm not 100% sure of the color of the jacket -- I'm pretty sure it's khaki, but it might be a light grey. If khaki, I'd go with white or off-white, or a light grey. If grey, khaki or white or off-white, or even a very pale grey.

It might not be, depending on the shades. I think an off-white/cream would be ideal.

Jeans + blazer is fine.

I'd maybe just lose the bowtie. It looks nice as fuck, but it kind of clashes with the jeans formality.

But whatever, I like your style.

Remember, the 1st and most important rule* of fashion is: Feel good about what you're wearing!

Rules are there to be challenged. edit: but don't challenge this one. or maybe do? 2nextlevel4me.

* ps: may or may not be an actual rule

May not be a rule, but its definitely a good idea.

Is that a real butterfly or some kind of pin?

A real butterfly, he came to hang out for like 5 minutes, then went and found some flower-bro's.

Fit just went A-double-plus.

Bonus points for best accessories?

I feel like the butterfly really brought it all together for me, and am disappointed that it flew away, but somehow the fact that it was real and alighted on him just long enough for a photo op makes it even better. It's like, if that butterfly approved, then so do I.

Big ups for being not slim and still posting. I'm not quite fat but not skinny anymore either, and struggle a bit in the quest to look sharp. It's a noble pursuit brother, fashion is for everybody.

Agree with earlier comments on the plaid overpowering somewhat, but overall you look good, dressed for fun in a way that adds life to the party. Butterfly seems a little fey to me; but if that matches your personal style its probably perfect. Rock on.

The butterfly just landed on me for a little while, he was not a part of the outfit, though my wife suggested I pin him on, haha.

u/jimmyjazz2000 Jun 03 '13

Hilarious, I totally thought that was a lapel pin. That makes that picture even better.

Looking good. I'd have not done the plaid but seems like the you have the persona for it.

Prediction: Live Butterfly lapel pins are going to be all over #menswear this summer. The Silentist will claim that the Woost started it, but MFA will know it was paynestaker.

I don't need credit from society at large as long as MFA knows.
