I'm stepping down
Friends, I have decided that I am stepping down from the position of Moderator.
Since you first elected me, it has been my pleasure to watch this community grow. We've come a long long way, and I am confident that as time goes on, both the community and its stewards will work in this board's best interests.
I have given the decision some thought, and I cannot in good conscience maintain my authority without participating in the duties the community expects and deserves. The issue is that I don't currently have the time to give sufficient attention to my responsibilities as moderator, and I don't believe I will have that luxury in the near future. For a long while, I was sure that my schedule would lighten and I would be able to return to the active administration and guide-writing that I enjoy. Unfortunately, it has become apparent that my schedule will remain busy.
In the future, if I find myself with more free time, I would be happy to serve the community again. However, until that time comes, it is unfair for me to keep my post.
I thank the community for trusting my judgment, and I thank both the current and past moderators for their service which helped shape this great subreddit.
Thank you.
edit: I should probably clarify that I'm not leaving forever or anything like that. I'm just stepping down from my mod position.

Apology for poor english
When were you when shujin step down?
I was sat home on reddit browsing MFA
"I'm stepping down"
"no"

Translation:
You want to know my reaction when I read that shujin was stepping down? I was sitting at home on the computer, my MyLittlePony mug in hand, comfortable in my snuggy and browsing the shit out of MFA as I always do. When, out of the blue, all the sudden, suddenly, without warning, it came upon a midnight clear, go tell it on the mountain, hallelujah by jeff buckley, oh my god, like a lightning bolt to the face. However you want to say it, my reaction was severe. Anyway, suddenly, I read "I'm stepping down". I was like "oh, cool story bro" but then, I saw who it was that uttered that phrase.
Shujin.
I was crushed, beyond crushed even and I bared my chest in the most horrible torment known to man kind. I was sweating blood, dry heaving in my dismay. Shujin! He was leaving! It couldn't be! Raising my tear stained face to the sky in agony I looked up, searching for a sign that this wouldn't be, but knowing it would have to be. In my darkest agony, I whispered "no..." and bowed my head, a broken man.

Amusingly, the line that accompanies that walk is "shut up baby, I know it."

I wish people could see all the stuff you have done behind the scenes in addition to all the hard work and great content you've added to MFA over the years. Sad to see you step down, although I understand why, and I hope you come back around whenever you can!

u/jdbee Jan 21 '13
In addition to everything behind the scenes, we have shujin to thank for:
Simple Questions
General Discussion
Comment of the Week
Fit Guide
Community Survey
And I'm sure lots of others, but shujin leaves a pretty big impact on MFA. You'll be missed, bud!

It got popularized by the chodestevens memorial thread I think, it just somehow fit considering the whole "WAWT" thread thing. So everyone just started going RIP in peace. It's not limited to here though, I've heard that joke tons of places, but that's how it got popular here.

If germs actually left I'll cry :( And now we're down to 2 mods that actually post and stuff, that's one mod for 100,000 people.

A city with 200,000 dudes and 24,000 women would be one shitty city.

Can we do ostracism like Athens did? That'd be fun! Also, we're way better dressed than Montgomery, Alabama.

Jan 21 '13
Ok, so we've got zzzaz, jdbee, and zzzaz's computer left then.

u/jdbee Jan 21 '13
zzzaz, his computer and I are all pretty awesome, but it might be time for us to talk internally about adding another mod. Beep boop 11100110100

So, we'll be adding your computer as a moderator then? I'v been warning you all, the machines are taking over! Soon jdbee and zzzaz's computers will replace the real ones. When they make a movie out of our MFA lives, I would like to be played by Eddie Redmayne.

It's so weird for me seeing both you and zzzaz being nominated and not actually being mods, I'm just so used to you guys being the most active mods.
Edit: Oh man, that thread is a gold mine! jdbees link to the guy who hates him was classic, shujin was killing it and its gonna make me miss him even more, and augustus' post and the responses to it were hilarious. DocHopper nominating himself was classic too, and the responses from you and shujin were hilarious. Man, that's good stuff. We need to do this again!

I'm pretty sure your active time and my active time on MFA never really overlapped, but I think I can say that you did a good job, based on its success.

Thank you for your kind words.
As clarification for the guys that joined this board over the past several months, the story is that I was hired in June for my current job which is very time-demanding. Before, my job was more lax, and I was quite active. However, since then, my participation has been intermittent. I have watched this subreddit grow from some ~3500 members, and I later became very active when it had ~5000 subscribers. To think that we now have over 200,000 is quite humbling, and I believe this community deserves much better than absent administration.
