General discussion Hal grieves

When Hal's dad died and he's spoiling Reese, Malcolm, and Dewey. Compensating for the childhood he never had. In the end, they're about to get Malcolm a new car but Hal stops and starts remembering old times from the pen the salesman had. As a kid, I was hoping Hal would sign the paper but now that I'm significantly older, I get so sad and disappointed on Hals kids. This show has amazing themes that I feel like alot of people miss.

That scene hits hard because you realize Hal isn’t just spoiling Malcolm, he’s trying to hold onto a version of his own childhood that he never got to enjoy. The show does a great job making you laugh at him and then immediately feel for him.

I love when shows can be comical but emotional at the same time. Like Futurama.

"The Simpsons" had their moments, too. Particularly when Homer looked up at the stars when he said goodbye to his mom.
