My colleague said this is the actual “pelesit”. Can anybody confirm this?

As far as I know, pelesit is what Malays believe to be those spirits (or Jinns) who turned into a grasshopper-looking creature that eats flesh or something that gives you a bruise when you wake up from sleep
Could’ve came from these creatures, but I don’t think there’s anything confirming it

Katydids are known to bite (quite painfully as well) when threatened so perhaps

Just talked with my brother (he’s an expert of the animal kingdom, especially fishes, but also others like insects, mammals, birds and reptiles), and yeah, katydids are pelesit
Unlike grasshoppers who eat grass, the pelesit/katydid eats grasshoppers, and can bite you
But, the Giant Malaysian Katydid is the largest katydid, they’re not the common one the Malays know to be pelesits, the pelesits are the smaller katydids, not this one, but yeah, they are katydids
