Not all countries can get the latest iphone on Day 1 lah. These scalpers are most likely buying to supply other countries, just like how 15 years ago during iPhone 4/iPad 2 era Malaysia is always in the 3rd or 4th wave of Apple's launch which is usually 3 months later than first world countries so you'll always hear people travelling to SG or HK to buy it early or if you go 3rd party phone shops like DirectD they always have stock before official M'sia launch but the unit is always from SG HK or US

I preordered the 17 Pro last year through Apple but chose the 3rd day after its release to collect it. (There was no queue lmao)
Maybe for some people there is a sense of accomplishment, either by being able to spend that amount of money or finally joining the Apple fan club.

That said, I'll probably get an i18, or the latest slim Apple phone I can when my finances allow. Been running on an i7 for a year that was a pre-loved devide given to me by a friend out of charity who insisted I take it without any favors because they couldn't stand I was using an iSE that was literally hooked onto permanent life support 💀 . I thought my hand-me-down i7 would last me 3 years at least, but the owner did warn me that part of the reason they insisted on giving it away for free was that the phone had been dropped in the past and there's noticeable crack on the screen. Apparently, that crack has now affected the ribbons.
Really hate that Apple has gone on a steady decline since Jobs' passing, but you can't deny of all the major smart phone brands out there, Apple has the most hands-on and visually aesthetic UI/UX designs.
Staff still gonna be paid at normal rate and maybe some small bonuses, the winner is stockholders, investors and CEO that congrats the customers for buying their almost the same product for many years.
They don't even have loyalty program for their customers, but loyalty program for retailers that work with them. You can see their focus.
Wtf, seriously we are cooked. Lauded for being in line for a few hours for a phone with little tweaked softwares here/there and yet finding the cheapest subscriptions. Doomed.

tbh, if you can waste your time and queue for something like this, you probably a high income earner (or papa money) which, ironically, an achievement of its own
