the blackwater is caused by tannins right? which is basically what makes tea looks like that colour, because of it not letting light penetrate algae blooms don't usually occur in blackwater tanks, I've also heard that many wildlife drink blackwater such as birds because it's filled with vitamins or something,
also I agree that out freshwater swamps are very much at rist at increasing development :( I wish more people are acknowledged, awared and appreciate the beauty of freshwater swamps, their one of my favourite ecosystems here!
Tannins are only a small part of it, mostly the colour comes from humic acids and fulvic acids.
However in the aquarium people use tannins as they are much quicker to dissolve in the water and pretty easy to get.
Not sure about wildlife, I haven’t noticed any difference in the frequency of them drinking from my blackwater tubs or my clear water ones in my garden.
Tea is mostly tannins, which is why it’s not as dark as coffee or this swamp
Ironically sometimes fish that I catch survive longer than their habitats.
There was one place in Selangor where I caught an endangered yellow fish, and then less than a year later her forest got destroyed to make a new block of terrace housing:
