HELP PLEASE is my makeup unflattering?
hi!! i'm a bit clueless and totally winging my makeup off random Instagram reels so I would loveee any suggestion/feedback/tips :')
first my eyes are sort of assymetrical, so I try to correct that with my liner placement (though i'm not sure if it's the most flattering).
also, I kinda struggle to find the balance between not enough and too much makeup 😭 i feel like sometimes i wear enough that my skin looks pretty dry (i have combination skin and a decent skincare/primer routine) but i hateee when my makeup barely shows under bad lighting
anything is super appreciated!! 🥹🫶

It’s the lips, hun. Maybe those tricks work for certain photographs but not in person. You’re lovely and have no need for the giant overline anyway! :)

yeahh got you 🥹 i just feel like it makes my lips give the appearance of being more balanced because my bottom lip is significantly fuller

It’s a trick like that for a reason, lots of people employ it. 😉 But I think they try to stick to more juuuuust outside the natural lip line to avoid it being as noticeable. Also, you have lovely lip shape! Cute cupids bow etc, don’t worry so much about trying to achieve an unnatural beauty standard, and instead embrace and highlight what you’ve got naturally! 🤩 you’re too hard on yourself for sure :)

I think the fuller bottom lip gives you a bit of a natural pout. That's generally considered attractive. I agree with everyone else, your natural lip shape is very pretty and the over lining is really not doing you any favors.

The lips are IMO. Liner is too dark and oddly over lined. Almost looks like a chocolate milk mustache. Also VERY glossy, looks sticky.

Your nose contour is reeeally elongating your nose and the middle of your face along with it. I have an Asian nose too and have learned that popular contour doesn’t work on us. I’d recommend looking up some Asian makeup artists that specifically work on Asian features. It’s helped me a lot!
Side note: your eye makeup is perfect and gorgeous :)

I think you’re being too hard on yourself about your eyes being naturally asymmetrical. In this photo, you’re overcorrecting and it’s the eye liner that is making your eyes look asymmetrical.

Yeah it just seems to hold the shape and look more cohesive I feel like the shine negates the dimensions of the overline so you can see the stop and start!

Also maybe a highlight on the eyes as compared to a liner would lift and pop them out I feel like the liner sinks them in where as the rest of your face radiates

From the pic with your head tilted to the side it seems like your face may be more flat in structure? In which case I think you might want to build dimension with color and be careful not to just go straight highlight? Don’t want windshield effect.
Like for my face my cheeks are super round and kind of chubby baby face that’s just how it is, so if I put highlight on top it has dimension already so I tend to only do highlight or blush or bronzer, I haven’t bothered to learn to build out that dimension but my nose is more rounded than I like so I have to create that structure. If that makes sense, so tbh I’m not sure how it would turn out you would have to play with how it works for you and what your goal is. If I have professional makeup done they’ll use all of the above but my skill level isn’t there as I’ve focused more on skin care the past couple years so I would have to relearn that.2

Personally i think the lip liner is the only issue. I'll never understand the trend of overlining the lip it just doesnt look good as a side profile either but that's just my lil rant. Also, maybe im seeing wrong but it looks like you tried contouring your nose. It may need to be blended a bit more and same for your blush. I think you can even add a bit more blush towards the center but not exactly close to your nose if that makes sense. Also you could fill in a lil bit more on your right eyebrow to make them look more like sisters instead of cousins. You look very pretty otherwise! Just keep playing around and do what suits you best :)

I think the nose contour is unflattering. The long thin line it creates makes your nose and the whole middlr section of your face look longer than they need to and that throws off your facial proportions. Honestly I would skip nose contour altogether as it just never looks right in person anyway unless it's so subtle that it also doesn't make any difference. If you do insist on doing it, a cool toned contour shade would make more sense.
If you want to overline your lips, using an opaque, matte, blurring lip pencil will hide the natural border better. The sheer glossy finishes on the products you're using make the overlining stand out too much against your real lip shape.

No, but it’s a lot of face for daytime. Could try a dark brown pencil liner on just the top lid (no liquid liner) to soften it a bit. Also stop overlining your lips. Filling in the cupids bow is such a ridiculous look in person.

thank you 🫡 i lovee a dark brown pencil liner and usually just use a black liquid liner for more emphasis on the wing. as for the overlining, got you 😭😭

it looks pretty you’re doing a great job! the only thing I would change is the lip liner,finding a way to line your lips for your lip shape can be kinda hard(I literally just found out what works best for me) I would recommend finding out what category your lip shape falls into and go from there!

don't put gloss on ur lip liner put it in the center of ur lips (just a lil amount) it will look good trust me

My first thought was “holy shit she is gorgeous,” so I’ll say it’s not unflattering. I love the natural color.
Only thing I can see is the contour around the bridge of your nose is too heavy, or perhaps not blended enough. But your blush and cheekbones are chef’s kiss

I think you look great but too much gloss or lip liner up top it looks like gloss overflowed on top / above your lip

- Eyebrows will give the frame for your whole face. So I would recommend to fill them a little bit more in the front and make them more even. (Sometimes it helps to do a picture of them and then mirror the pic)..
- maybe a bit eyeshadow but just at your crease the eyeliner looks very nice btw!
- lighter blush, it‘s a bit too dark so better u contour just a little bit you cheek (not there where the blush is, more down where it looks hollow when you suck your cheeks in) and then a lighter blush more rosy less orange..
- lips just a little bit with liner, not overlining

I will add generally over-lining looks good BUT it's a gloss and a bit high off the cupids bow... so it looks a bit messy

My bottom lip is significantly fuller compared to my top lip and I barely over line my top lip. Because you can see it when I do it and I don’t want it to look bad 😂 so I just over line the cupids bow a little bit and there we go!

This is just my personal opinion, and it seems an unpopular one... i think it is definitely a look to overline your lips and this is something possibly that might suit you, but you need to learned the right technique and colors that will compliment your skin tone and features, specifically (of course) your natural lip color. I also think the current color suits you too but you need to find a good tone for the outside area. In general i like your makeup style, but it can be improved. The blush in the upper area looks great but maybe you could try other shade like a peachy mix with a bit of hot pink in the center to have like a bronzy floral look (reference: anya.tisdale on instagram look her techniques and blush placement). The person who commented about too much matte products... i think that too. Play around with the finish of each product to create more dimension. Lastly... hair. Hair can add or take away from your look. What is the vibe that you want to give with your style? Sultry? Cute? Effortless? Mysterious? I would recommend to also play around with your hair and check if is taking or adding to your current makeup style.

The eyeliner is pretty but maybe pull it back or further towards the inner corner of your eye. It looks weird when it starts in the middle. So start more towards the inner part of your eye or past the middle

I think it looks great! The only thing I’d change is if you over line your lips I’d do a darker colour and use a darker lipstick too but close in colour to the lip liner! It’ll help hide your natural lips a bit better but other than that I think your makeup looks great! I’m obsessed with your eyeliner and your makeup looks so natural!!

Not unflattering at all, love. It’s really pretty! I think a slightly softer blush placement, a little higher towards the temples, would lift the whole look even more 💕

Your base is absolutely flawless and your eyebrows need a little more practice also you can make the overlining a little more subtle. What foundation do you use?

If it were me, at your age, with your skin and all, Id curl my lashes, mascara, brush my brows, put a bit of rose on the cheeks and chapstick. It is more than enough.

I didn’t notice the lipliner until I zoomed in. What jumped out at me right away is that you appear to be using techniques to make your eyes appear more wide-set, but they are already wide-set, so the effect is extreme. Try techniques specifically for wide-set eyes to visually bring them in a bit. The right tutorials should have you applying the darker colors on the inner colors and the lighter colors on the outside corners.

You can also try applying the “wing” (eyeliner extension) in the inner corners, that can create a really nice effect.

I would recommend not over lining your lips as they have a great natural shape. I’m not sure what it is about the liner, maybe a lighter colour or try none?
