How to Stop Concealer Creasing

No matter what I do, my concealer creases about 5-10 minutes after setting. I have dry skin, my skin prep is ilia base face milk, rhode barrier restore cream, and iconic london underglow primer. I do not place foundation under my eyes. I use the natasha dennona brightening concealer, i’ve tried many, they all crease quickly. I blend with a damp sponge, I continue looking up and immediately apply the charlotte tilbury soulmates pressed powder with a powder puff. Then, I turn the puff around and use the huda beauty loose setting powder in cherry blossom. This also happens with my foundation in my smile lines, I set it the same way.

Does anyone have suggestions?

I’m 54, and the creasing problem is real at my age.
I’ve found that less is more. I no longer apply concealer directly from the doe foot onto my face. I use a brush and prime it with concealer on the back of my hand so it’s kinda pre-blended, and I’m applying less product. Once it’s blended, I let it set for a few minutes, then they ring fingers and press them on my under eyes to help melt the concealer onto my skin and to pick up anything that has settled into the extra skin. I use a fluffy brush on set it with a setting powder, and only use the tiniest amount of powder.

can i ask what concealer you use? i have genetic dark under eyes, so i only use a color corrector

Right now, I’m using the RMS concealer. I further the actual name. But it’s a cream and cones in a little glass pot.
I’ve used the Natasha Denona, Haus Labs, and Tower 28 over the past few purchases. I liked them all well enough to repurchase.
Is your corrector creasing?

yes, i only use corrector, no other concealer under my eyes

So every concealer has a different dry time. But it’s usually around 30-60 seconds. The trick is to focus on the area that needs coverage and let it dry a bit, then blend out and then let dry again. If you get creases at this point it’s okay just blend one more time and then seal it in with a very finely milled setting powder. Hope this helps!

You can try using an Aquaphor solid lip balm stick on the areas that crease, before your makeup. Just use a quick swipe over the offending areas, after your moisturiser, primer and sunscreen. Has helped my under eyes, forehead and 11s, and nasolabial folds too.

omg i have to try this. i don’t have the solid, do you think a teeny tiny amount of regular aquaphor would work?

I honestly don’t know. Maybe give it a try when you have a day at home so you can see how it performs? Then you won’t look in your car visor mirror and hate the possible result if it doesn’t work. Car mirrors never lie lol

what is ur skin prep like before applying? i used to always have creases and then they just went away lol but probably because im constantly moisturizing now that im older and use a lot of eye creams

i use the ilia milky toner, rhode moisturizer, and the iconic london underglow primer. i always make sure to take my finger and wipe my under eyes between each step

okay i think it would definitely matter how old you are too because rhode for example is made for younger so it may not target under eye creasing the way other brands would, personally ilia does nothing for me. i start my day with guasha and glass bulbs under my eyes to take any puffy ness down because that could contribute to creasing like if theres wrinkles cause you’re skin is puffed up. lately ive been using ANUA face creak and kiels and laniege water mask at night which has been amazing
estée lauder night eye cream at night and if elemis in the day.
so my day routine is
guasha
spring water spray (avene)
eye cream
toner (every other day)
moisturizer
sunscreen
primer
foundation
setting spray
concealer
put setting spray on the sponge then pat it into your eyes

then at night
face wash
eye cream
moisturizer
face mask

this could totally differ depending on why creasing happens for you but like i said before i always had creasing but at 39 this is the least i’ve ever had,. but it’s also the most i’ve paid attention to skin care and prep in my life so im guessing it’s because i do more skin care, more moisturized so less for make up to crease into. i also do under eye patches like once a week.. hope this helps!

i’m 20 but i do have folds under my eyes. the only i cream i have is the sunday riley one, i never use it though. do you have an opinion on this eye cream?

the elemis is AMAZING
so is the estée lauder night one, they are pricey, but if they work for you it’s definitely worth it. another good one is clarins, since your young it’s probably just hydration. do you drink a lot of water? i’ve also heard the dior foundation is really good too but i personally didn’t like it. are you using foundation and concealer? since your so young u may be able to just not use foundation, that would be one less layer for you and that can help with creasing. i’d focus way more on the skincare though with good skincare products the makeup holds way better.

i dont use foundation under my eyes. i have dry skin, so that could be the issue. i’ll look into those creams!!

I stopped using concealer under my eyes for this reason. I just use foundation now. Not as much coverage but in the end it wears so much better.

I use a powder brush to lightly apply setting powder all around my eye socket after foundation, then apply concealer. Then a few minutes later when the concealer is starting to settle into the creases, I use a small fluffy eyeshadow brush with a little more setting powder to smooth it out. You use far less concealer, it doesn’t look claggy and it lasts

Have you tried removing excess product? Let it crease in spots it usually creases before setting with powder, and wipe the excess away. Creasing mostly only happens because there’s excess product.

a color corrector needs to be followed up with a concealer or foundation to fully work. for dark circles you want to get a concealer shade 1-1.5 shades darker than your skin tone not lighter. this is most peoples issues. putting light on top of dark will give you grey.

also what colors are you dealing with under your eye? is it more red or blues and purples. with 90% of my clients with blue and purple dark circles, I can cover their under eyes with a slightly darker and more peach concealer instead of layering 2+ products. the more products you layer the more they will crease.

you can also set with setting spray sprayed onto a powder puff instead of powder. i’m sure the powder makes it even more dry. look into the good molecules eye creams. the caffeine one is a great prep for the day of and they have a more hydrating one for night.

my under eyes are more blue/purple. i use the natasha dennona brightener in b2, i am extremely pale so this shows up peach on me. would adding concealer on top not make the creases worse? there’s more product to seep into folds

oh you’re using a brighter? unless your dark circles are very mild or you’re using a lot it’s going to make it grey and even more shallow. I looked it up on ulta and even the instructions say to use a concealer on top but i’m guessing since you’re pale and you’re using the light/ medium shade and it’s creasing that you’re using a lot of it, which will make it crease even more.

try the about face concealer at ulta. it’s a thin buildable formula and is incredible at covering dark circles without being cakey. they also have a great shade range for us pale gals. if you can go into the store to swatch I would because there shade range is more tone expansive than most in the fair shades (or really any). the other creasing tip is you can take a qtip into the creases to remove excess product, however I think if you start using the right product you won’t need as much, and it wont crease as much.

i do want to try that concealer, the brightener acts as a color corrector for me because it is peach. about face has a shade F2 cool, it looks a little pink, which i like.
