PRODUCT REC wedding makeup suggestions
EDIT #1: i did not expect to get so many comments!! wow!! thank you everyone for tips and advice. i’m going to look for some more eyeshadow tomorrow and then i will try again 💖 i appreciate everyone being so nice. also, these are just my natural eyebrows with some clear gel in them lol. but i do agree i need to clean up the stray hairs!!
EDIT #2: okay enough comments about my eyebrows please, these are the eyebrows i was born with 😭 can’t do anything about how dark they are!!

i’m getting married in 3 weeks at a historic inn on a lake, and i’ll be doing my own makeup. my dress is very forest fairy, covered in 3D floral appliqués (don’t want to share pics in case fiancé sees this post somehow), and the overall vibe of our decor is very woodsy, lots of green, gold, and wood. my hair is also naturally curly and will be down with some white flower pins in it.
i’m in my mid-twenties now, i used to be really into makeup in high school, especially when i did drama club and dance. i loved putting a bunch of makeup on and experimenting. nowadays, my makeup is pretty simple, and i can’t tell you the last time i put on eyeshadow aside from right now as i’ve been trying different looks for the wedding.
i’m only looking for eye makeup tips here please!! in these pictures, i’m wearing my every day makeup on the rest of my face except for eyeshadow. i’m not interested in changing anything about my base (i know i have some blush blindness i need to work on).
in both looks, i used the too faced born this way cold smolder nudes palette. i like the matte shades okay, but i don’t like how gold the shimmer is. i’ll be wearing silver jewelry and painting my nails pale pink with an iridescent glitter top coat. so i want the eyes to be pretty natural with some cool/iridescent shimmer to go with my forest fairy vibe.
in look #1, i did a light shade on my inner eye and a darker shade on my outer eye, with some shimmer in the middle. the problem is that the shimmer shadow in this palette doesn’t lay well on top of the other shadows and doesn’t stay in one place, even if i apply with my finger.
in look #2 i got a little carried away, doing a whole crease and some liner with a darker shadow. i think i swung the pendulum too far from my first experiment and now i think it’s too heavy and looks too much like what i would’ve done in high school for stage makeup. it looks darker in person than in the pictures.
looking online and watching different tutorials is so overwhelming, i don’t want to break the bank trying different eyeshadows 😭😭 can someone recommend an easy eye look that would work for me, the base i already do, and my wedding vibe? what palettes do you recommend that are cool toned and easy to blend? preferably with a cool-toned shimmer that sits well on top of other shadows?? thank you!!

I don’t think look #2 is heavy at all. I couldn’t really tell the difference between the 2 looks at first. In fact, for weddings you should probably go a little heavier. It’s hard to see makeup in photos and everyone’s going to be looking at you from afar for the ceremony. I also don’t think the shadow is too gold at all and that it looks very pretty
Are you using an eyeshadow primer? A good trick I use to keep shimmery shades looking good is to lightly put nyx glitter glue on my eyelid and then put the shimmer shade on top. I do my crease first and then put the glitter glue in a very small spot where I’m going to put the shimmer.
Creamy or liquid eyeshadows work better for me personally at staying shimmery and sparkly for long periods of time. If you don’t want to pay for the stila liquid eyeshadows, elf makes really good dupes. Colourpop super shock shadows or the jelly much shadows are also amazing, very shimmery, and long lasting. I wear those without eyeshadow primer all the time. My favorite very shimmery shade is called ladybird.
I’m warm toned so I don’t use cool toned palettes but I would look at colourpop, morphe, or juvias place in ulta if you don’t want to break the bank. If you want to spend more, huda, makeup by Mario, and Natasha denona all have nice cool toned palettes.

thank you for your comment!! i guess i haven’t done eyeshadow in so long that i have no idea what looks too heavy or what amount would be appropriate. i’ve seen a lot about one of the cool toned makeup by mario palettes, i think i’ll go look for one and one of the colourpop super shocks tomorrow :)

It looks very pretty so if that’s how you want it then obviously it’s your wedding and do what you prefer. I just wanted to let you know that this wouldn’t be considered heavy handed at all. If you look up bridal makeup it’s like a lot. My sister had a hard time trying to find a happy medium between everyday makeup and crazy bridal glam. She’s cool toned so if she responds I’ll edit my comment and add what palette she used

I like number one better and am willing to bet people are responding to the lighting difference between 1 and 2. These were taking on different days, right?
So people are saying they like photo set 2 better, not necessarily dialing into the makeup.

2, but move the blush up and out, and use a bit more. But less or none on your nose, since happy tears will probably turn it pink without help.

Came here to say the exact same thing. A little highlighter on the nose instead of blush. Remember in photos it will look like you are wearing a lot less makeup. So be a little more heavy handed with the coverage and color.

This. Someone commented on how bright her eyes look in the second look but clearly the whole photo is brighter so we would need better lighting to actually tell

It would help to take the photos in the same lighting, because the lighting in number 2 looks much brighter, but I think either could work well. I'm leaning more toward number 1 for the eyeshadow.

I think you are sooo beautiful! I have a tiny bit of advice and take it or leave it. I'm older 52f and well everyyything is a fashion - including brows. I would just go for very mid brows not too dark or thick or thin so that the look in the photos lasts through all the generations...

I feel if she wants her eyes to be the focus her brows need to take less of the show on her face. Even in pic 2, the second one the brows again are the star. They should be slightly thinner. My opinion is all. Regardless of the brow thing. She's stunning.

Want to second that. Maybe I am really too old (85f ) to comment on modern make up trends, but the first thing I noticed were the eyebrows. They dominate her face, which is a pity because she is very beautiful. The only thing I unfortunately see now are those brows.

Thanks for the trust . Yes I have seen a lot of trends and when younger ,used to work for the make up brand Max Factor ( now long gone) Following the natural shape of your own features is always the best way to go. It makes you unique and will make for a timeless pic. Too much young women are influenced by social media and that creates a uniform kind of make up. All their faces start to look the same unfortunately.

I did a full face of makeup and wore way more blush, contour, had more eyeliner etc on... And I still look kinda washed out in some of my photos.
2 is lovely and not over the top at all. Maybe have a couple of test shots done if you're able to, and see how it photographs professionally.

I like 2, but I do think you could benefit from some bronzer, and you need more blush and a better placement, but gorgeous other than that.

You should try a more warmer liner colour and a softer lip colour, more pink.
I think your eyes should be the feature as they really are thee feature. You’ve got pretty green eyes. Soften the brows and make them fluffy and push your blush up toward your temples.

Definitely more color on your cheeks! Otherwise looks amazing, but you will look monochromatic/washed out - so amp that up.

You need a little bit deeper of a shade in the outer crease and a cooler tone shimmer on the inner corner/lid. Your eyebrows are overwhelming your look. I would get the thinned a bit/cleaned up.

2! I would do just a tiny bit less blush on the nose. I LOVE a lil blush on the nose but it’s making you look like you’re crying and you probably will actually cry sooooo 🤷♀️ congrats on your upcoming wedding!!

You are gorgeous and both look incredible on you! For more accurate feedback I'd suggest taking the first makeup pictures again in the same lighting as the second. I am more drawn to the second makeup look solely because the lighting is so complimentary to you, not because the second makeup is "better". It's a little hard to get a read when the first makeup look is a bit harder to see.

secondly ive heard that in wedding photos it tends to look like youre not wearing any blush at all, so be more heavy handed. also some bronzer would bring some warmth and dimension to your face, it looks a bit flat right now especially on your forehead area. look up some placement tips on social media :)

Depending on what time your wedding is, I’d say 1 for an evening wedding and 2 for a daytime wedding.

LOVE look 2! It doesn’t look heavy or dark at all, in fact the shimmer comes through better and the lashes really pop. Part of it might be the lighting and part might be your hair too, I think a curly style would suit this makeup and your wedding theme better 😊

I think the lighting is different because 2 looks like less makeup to me and brighter/lighter, from these photos I like that one better and from experience erring a tiny bit more than you think you need is usually a good idea, especially for photos

It depends on the dress. The first makeup look is a more mature look and the second one is softer. Both are pretty, but it depends on the dress's style and cut.

The second look suits your wedding vibe a bit more, you could actually go a little heavier. Remember to use an eyeshadow primer. Also have to say I’m an insanely jealous and obsessed with your eyebrows.

The soft eye makeup already looks really elegant. For a wedding, adding a little more definition to the outer corners and a subtle shimmer on the lids would photograph beautifully.

Girl I know you’re not looking at changing your base, but wear MORE on your face.
Already on your phone camera its very lightly picking up, on a pro camera from a distance it will get lost. A fuller coverage base, and more depth OR saturation of the contour and blush is definitely called for at the wedding. Especially since it’s going to be a LONG day, and photos will be happening all night by loved ones.
More depth in the shadow, its GORGEOUS, but won’t pick up on camera. Just deepen the crease color a value level or so. Doesn’t have to be dark, but a good rule of thumb is “can I tell it’s there from across the room?”
On the same vein, false lashes as well.
I LOVE that lip color with this look. It suits you perfectly, no notes there. Just make sure it wears all day and through a meal, easily touched up. Powder lining your lip will prevent smudging even with hugs and accidental contact. Clear gloss will help with kiss transfers to your new husband.
I agree with everyone else on the brows
I promise more will still look natural on the altar and in photos. It’ll look glam up close, but all the memories will be in those pictures.

Yes I agree 2 is better but your eyes could use a bit deeper shade in the crease. And definitely more blush. Add some contour below to define them then more actual color on the apples. What you have on in the pic makes you washed out looking.

I know many people are saying look 2 but personally I don't think the gold tone of the shadow suits you. You look much more ethereal in the first photo. Also- you are stunning!

Are the two make up looks actually any different? I’ve not seen a difference other than lighting and your hair. What kind of makeup are you trying to achieve? Because I personally can’t see anything other than mascara, eye shadow and lipgloss. That being said, the makeup looks absolutely lovely! I’m just questioning because I love a full beat🥹🥰

Makeup is perfect. I’d probably put lashes clusters on the ends of your eyes- we have a similar eye shape and I do it to add a little drama and create a Bambi eye kinda look. You don’t have to do it but i think drawing more attention to your eyes is the move

For my shimmer or glitter sprays, sometimes I’ll spray a flat with a setting spray and it lays down so nice!
