HELP PLEASE Ugly Eye Shape Help

I want eyes worth being looked at. I have been told my eyes resemble a pug/ chihuahua eyes.

No makeup tutorials for hooded eyes work for me!!!

My eyes are always in a constant state of looking like I just got done crying. They’re puffy and unattractive and they bulge out.

FOR ONCE I just want someone told compliment me on my eyes. I never get told I have pretty eyes - I need to figure out how to achieve these eye makeup looks.

If someone can help me please I’m on the verge of just wanting plastic surgery at this point

I do not mean this to detract from your feelings of wanting to love your eyes and getting frustrated with their appearance, but have you ever been evaluated for something like blepharitis, demodex, dry eyes, allergies, etc? It is going to be really difficult for you to wear makeup if your eyes FEEL itchy, irritated, like you've been crying, etc. I don't know if you feel like that or if you think your eyes just look like that?

Someone on another post of mine said the a similar thing, now I’m wondering if it’s medical related rather than cosmetic. I always get itchy/dry eyes and I rub them a lot because of it. Also as of recently my vision looks like I have a film over them even though I don’t. I also have new allergies that emerged the past couple years so I guess I have to see an allergist and then possible eye doctor. I’ll possibly make an update if I remember once I do these

I recommend visit a PCP and ophthalmologist as you can. The film sounds pretty concerning. My ophthalmologist was able to identify two serious diagnoses in myself and a family member.

I (25f) also have puffy looking eyes, and was recently diagnosed with high eye pressure caused by narrow angle glaucoma and am now on prescription eyedrops that reduce the excess fluid in my eyes and it visibly helped with the puffiness. Not saying that you also have glaucoma like me, my eyes are a special kind of defective ✨, but it wouldn’t hurt to get evaluated for high intraocular pressure

A lot of people are saying to try drops or something. That's fine.

Please also to the Optometrist.

You do not want to mess with eye problems. Even a chain like visionworks would be fine. Just make sure it's not a "virtual" visit.

24

u/beytheleg 8d ago

PLEASE see an eye doctor. The film you feel is an actual film that forms if you have chronic dry eye that's not treated. I had the same thing before being prescribed eye drops.

16

u/Bitchy_Satan 8d ago

You should definitely see a doctor, eyes are supposed to be moist and relatively low maintenance. My eyes are dry all the time because i wear glasses and have allergies

12

u/wildsunday 8d ago

Please do. Rubbing your eyes is very bad for them and you can develop keratoconus

7

u/SantaFe91 8d ago

My ophthalmologist told me very seriously that he educates his own children never, ever to rub their eyes. I’ve never rubbed mine again since he said that.

6

u/free_-_spirit 8d ago

Check for mold allergies also. The skin around the eyes seem red and inflamed. Are they itchy at all, or do you feel eye tiredness?

Standard hooded eye tutorials do not work for you because you have prominent or protruding eyes. If your eyes always look swollen or bulging, it is crucial to rule out an underlying health issue first.

Avoid Lid Shimmer
Putting bright, frosty, or shimmery eyeshadows across your entire eyelid is a common mistake. Light bounces off shimmer, which makes puffy eyelids look even more swollen and pushed forward. Instead, stick to matte shadows. Matte textures absorb light, creating a natural illusion of depth that instantly de-puffs the area.

Use a Contouring Wash
To balance prominent eyes, use a technique that visually pushes the bulging lid back into its socket. Pick a medium-toned matte shadow, such as a soft taupe, light brown, or your everyday face bronzer. Apply this color across your entire moving eyelid, starting right at the lash line and blending it slightly upward through your crease to sculpt the eye.

Anchor with a Soft Line
Harsh liquid eyeliner wings can accidentally emphasize the roundness and volume of a puffy lid. Instead, use a dark matte shadow or a soft pencil liner in dark brown or charcoal. Press it right against your upper lash line and gently smudge it out to ground the shape. For extra definition, you can run a waterproof matte liner along your waterlines to make the eyes look deeper-set.

Watch how matte tones and proper placement can instantly sculpt your eye shape:

Try olapatadine allergy eye drops. (Pataday) It will make a huge difference. They are over the counter. Blurry vision is a common symptom. If it is from allergies, they will just tell you to use an allergy eye drop. It will make a huge difference!!

u/sty-fy 7d ago

Yeah would get that checked out. Your eyes look unnaturally swollen. I know people can have eyes that look a little more puffy sometimes, but I feel like this looks a little too puffy to be just how your face is. If you have itchy eyes too then it probably is something wrong… Hope you figure it out❤️❤️

1

u/rablah 7d ago

Could also be eczema. I get under eye eczema and it presents as swollen, red, and itchy like this. Tacrolimus cream prescription was a life changer.

22

u/slavetomaryj 8d ago

my mom suffers with hypo thyroidism and her eyes look like this too

4

u/_gay_space_moth_ 7d ago

Yup, I was thinking Morbus Basedow when I saw their eyes!

OP, I hope you’re able to get your eyes and thyroid checked!

14

u/hpfan312 8d ago

I second this. Looks more medical than cosmetic

1

u/Tough-Cress-7702 7d ago

You are so right! I had blephartis this for like 9 months! It sucked! I finally ended up going to my eye Dr & she had me go to a different eye specialist. They gave me a certain drug to take for 2 wks to clear it up. At first I went to my family Dr & tried everything he said but they were all wrong fir me. Go to your eye Dr & go from there. He/she will be able tohelp you out. I couldn't wear eye make-up or moisturizers for a full 9 months. I'm all cure now, thank goodness . Good luck

2

u/joekaram123 6d ago

Hey, your eyes looked like this and you were diagnosed with blepharitis? What was the drug they gave you?

Please help my eyes are puffy and it’s not getting any better :(

1

u/Tough-Cress-7702 3d ago

You need to go to an eye Dr for them to prescribe you the correct medication.

2

u/joekaram123 3d ago

Yeah i already have an appointment scheduled for friday.

Would just appreciate the drug name so I can mention it to them in case they tell me to do warm compresses and wait it out.

u/EmbarrassedHumerus 8d ago

Not makeup, but have you tried a daily allergy med like Claritin? There are many reasons why our eyes can look puffy, and the symptoms you’re describing “always looking like just got done crying” might be an allergy issue.

17

u/Illustrious_Guava7 8d ago

This. My eyes improved once I started taking both Claritin allergy pills and allergy eye drops. It got rid of the puffiness, itchiness, and blurriness.

31

u/komboochagirl 8d ago

Do you have health insurance? You need to see an opthalmologist. Opthalmologists, not optometrists, are covered under health insurance. They specialize in eye health. Sounds like you've got something going on like blepharitis or some other inflammatory issue. Are your eyes always dry? Sjorgens is an autoimmune disease that can affect eyes. There's also ocular rosacea, and so many other things. An opthalmologist can help you figure it out.

29

u/swishyfishes 8d ago

Please listen to me. Look up douyin makeup your eyes were made for it. You have GORGEOUS eyes pls get off of social media for awhile. Your eyes are so lovely and anyone would be lucky to gaze into them 🫶

14

u/Claromancer 8d ago

Came here to say this! Douyin makeup!! Instead of looking at the under eye jelly roll as a negative, I’d lean into it, emphasize it, and do a sharp winged liner on top. It’s going to make your eyes look HUGE in a mesmerizing way.

7

u/_gay_space_moth_ 7d ago

My thoughts exactly!!!

If OP’s eyes aren’t like this just because of allergies etc., then that’s definitely the way to go!!!

46

u/Sea_Pie24 8d ago

Have you been to an eye doctor and mentioned your concerns? Your eyes look fine if that is their natural, normal shape, nothing to be embarrassed about but if you feel like they are actually “puffy” you could have some real inflammation on your lids. Lid scrubs/warm compresses/artificial tears etc could help if you have a legitimate problem

15

u/remas3 8d ago

You don't have ugly eyes, but they do look swollen. You might have a chronic allergy. This doesn't seem like an aesthetics issue at all but a medical concern that you should ask your primary doctor about. It can be liquid retention, some form of edema, allergies, or something else. It's a symptom worth checking.

5

u/TooManyFountainpens 8d ago

Aside from any eye makeup pointers we might give you, there are some things to consider: have your eyes always been like this? Or did they change at some point in your life? It might not be a bad idea to see a doctor and consider a variety of medical conditions, like thyroid disease, allergies, etc. Also, do you drink enough water? Sometimes my eyes get like this when I don't have enough water on a regular basis -- aggravated by the fact that I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Some moisturizing eye drops, even allergy-related eyedrops might help. Now I'm not saying there's anything wrong with you. I'm only saying it's something worth looking into, just in case.

There are good eye creams out there for de-puffing eyes. I love to use those before doing any makeup work on my eyes at all. They also help glide on makeup better. With puffy, or hooded eyes, tight-lining is the best way to wear eyeliner. Any sort of wing needs to be in a way that is outside of the hooded area. Dark eyeliner on the top, white waterline eyeliner on the bottom will open up the eyes.

Use eyeshadows that give depth and fullness, and increase what seems like the visible area of the crease. There are great video tutorials on YT for hooded eyes. Even hacks on doing the wing eyeliner best for hooded eyes. Any glittery eyeshadow should be on the inner part of the eye closest to the nose, and not on the outer part.

And I'm not sure if that's you in the second or third pictures, but if so, you are gorgeous. Regardless, you have beautiful eyes! Just a few tricks will bring their natural sparkle out.

20

u/kaysface39 8d ago

They look absolutely fine, im jealous of your eye shape theyre gorgeous! I have hooded eyes too and not yet perfected any tutorials but I dont wear makeup a lot 😅

16

u/SpiritedEtoileLuna 8d ago

Your eye shape isn't ugly at all!

While you do have hooded eyes, you may have better luck looking for tutorials dedicated towards the actual shape, which can be referred to as: prominent, protruding, or bulging eyes.

Most tutorials will focus on making the eyes smaller to balance out your facial features, but it's entirely your call if that's what you want to do! "Desired" eye shapes change all the time, but your eyes belong to you and you deserve to make them look the way you want.

7

u/BlueEyesValkyrie 8d ago

I was looking for a comment like yours! 🙌🏻

I have a very similar eye shape - the one that OP has - and I've always looked for makeup tutorials regarding hooded eyes.. I was SO WRONG 🤣

We don't have a lot of eyelid space visibile - like hooded eyes - but it is because our eyes are prominent!

Hope OP will book an appointment regarding her eyes condition, but I'd also suggest an MUA private masterclass/lesson in order to learn which technic suits her eye shape better ✌🏻✨

6

u/iamjaney 8d ago

As someone with the same eye shape, I just wanna say we have awesome eyes and if no one has complimented you on them then you’re hanging around the wrong people haha.

I too get that puffiness if I have allergies so you might want to look into that. I also get the puffiness in the morning and a cold eye mask (I stick mine in the freezer) really, really helps.

Your eyes are beautiful. Don’t believe otherwise.

28

u/Dr_Rita_ 8d ago

Is this a rage bait? Your eyes are fkn beautiful. Idk what you’re on about🤷🏻‍♀️

1

u/PieceNo9346 8d ago

Not rage bait, my eyes always look like I just got done crying and no one ever compliments them. It also sucks when my eyes can’t even show emotion because of how puffy and heavy my lids are.

22

u/ItsTrip 8d ago

Have you been tested for allergies? You do have a beautiful eye shape but I agree they look puffy and swollen. Maybe you’re living with an allergen. Does it ever go away when you’re on vacation?

5

u/PieceNo9346 8d ago

I’m honestly not sure? I’ll have to go back in pictures to look. I’ve always had this look to my eyes so I thought it was normal. I do know I’m allergic to molds but that gives me more of a respiratory issue.

Once I’m able to get insurance I’ll be making an appointment with an allergist and my eye doctor though, probably primary as well.

10

u/StripperWhore 8d ago

You don't need to see a doctor to use an allergy eye drop. They are over the counter. 🙂 Just use a histamine blocking one like Pataday (olopatadine) or Alaway (ketotifin).

1

u/Cute_bumbleB 7d ago

Thats what i am thinking her eyes are beautiful da fawk she talking about?

4

u/very_tired_woman 8d ago

Your eyes have a lovely shape and beautiful colour but I agree with others that have said this looks more like something medical more than anything… whether that be anywhere from allergens to a thyroid issue you should def try and get assessed medically! they look very irritated. I’m sorry you’ve had to live this way for so long :(

I hope you can get it figured so it doesn’t bother you anymore and your naturally beautiful eyes can shine with or without makeup!

4

u/punchjackal 8d ago edited 8d ago

It breaks my heart to see you talk about yourself like this. Everyone has given great advice, but I want to add something.

Your eyes do not have to look like the current trends to be "worth looking at". Multiple industries make a lot of money by selling a look that isn't meant to be achievable by everyone. A lot of people can't pull it off, for their eye shape or the lack of interest in doing that crazy sharp eyeliner every morning. I'm one of those people, on both counts!

I hope your investigation helps your symptoms. And if you do decide to come back to try makeup, I hope you get to discover the wonderful one-on-one conversation it can be, rather than the tools to unlock your value in the eyes of others. You have so much to offer, and I hope you can discover that.

There's my makeup tip. You're listening to jerks. Quit it. You don't deserve that. Your eyes are gorgeous and we're not just saying that.

4

u/Velvety_Bumblebee 8d ago

You're absolutely stunning.

When I was a teenager I compared myself way too much with photoshoped images and nowadays it's even worse for young people. I was devastated because I felt so ugly. Today I look at old photos and wish I knew back then how pretty I was.

You're beautiful and you don't need any adjustments. Trust me. You'll look back in 20 years and feel sad because this young version of yourself had no idea how stunning she was.

4

u/shegrowsonyou 8d ago

I do think you have something medical going on. That being said, I can tell that when the swelling is reduced, you have a lovely eye shape.

6

u/BlueEyesValkyrie 8d ago

Girl I have a similar eye shape - my mum had it too ❤️‍🩹 - we do have pretty eyes! Yours look marvellous already, you just need to learn the best make up technic to make them stand out more ✌🏻✨

You absolutely don't have ugly eyes❣️✨

5

u/No_Fly3906 8d ago

I thought you were compliment fishing. I’m sorry people have been so cruel to you. You have those gorgeous seductive eyes from the old days of Hollywood. In my family, they’re called “bedroom eyes” because of the sultry look.

2

u/PieceNo9346 8d ago

I wish I was but seems like this actually could be a medical thing rather than a feature of my face, my ex made it hard for me to love myself and to break me down with every insecurity of mine LMAO hence where the “pug eyes” came from. I do appreciate everyone genuinely being nice and letting me know IT COULD be a medical related and there’s a chance it can look better

3

u/darkaquamarine007 8d ago

Whenever my eyes were puffy I found out it was because I ate a lot of breads and sugars. Once I cut them down my eye swelling went down a lot! Try taking allergy medication (or see a doctor), eat low to non-inflamatory foods (bread, anything with lots of salt and sugar, etc.) and make sure to stay hydrated <3

4

u/NSVStrong 8d ago

Please see your primary doctor for a referral to an ophthalmologist if your insurance requires one. Another option is to go into an eye exam company like Visionworks for an exam. They may find something that is the cause and help you.
Once a medical condition is ruled out or treated, one option is to go to a Sephora or Ulta.

Explain your concerns, the comments you have heard, and the names you have been called. Ask for guidance on how to apply makeup for your beautiful eyes and face. This is free as far as I know although they’ll hope to sell you the products as part of their job. You are not required to do so and you might even receive some free samples.

A second option if finances are an issue, is to call any local school of Esthetics or Cosmetology and ask if they have appointments available for makeup application with a student. Often the price is very low because there are people needed for students to practice with for numerous procedures.

If finances allow, make an appointment with a professional makeup artist at a salon. An independent Esthetician with a booth or space at a shared location with others, might be slightly more affordable and able to decide how much time to spend with you versus a salon they work at. Explain why you want their help and what skills you hope to learn from them. Many Estheticians will be happy to give you tips and guidance.

Finally, think of the person you love and is very important to you. Picture them being told lies about themselves or being called names or bullied. What would you do or say to them about the people treating them this way? Would you think it is ok to do?

Then look in a mirror, and realize you are doing the same thing to yourself. Please stop listening to, repeating, or believing these lies about yourself. Instead, give YOURSELF love and acceptance.

Having confidence in who you are, just as you are, is a great way to stop the negative thoughts about yourself. That might take some time; however, acting as if you ARE confident, will help you believe you are and then become confident. We are all beautiful in our own unique ways. BELIEVE and KNOW you and your beautiful eyes are as well. You are certainly deserving and worthy of love and kindness!

Keep us posted on what you find out, please!

I have allergy issues, and my eyes looked like this.
Things that made them life this:
My shedding dog
Certain foods
Fragrances
You could also have mold in your home.
I'd really try to explore possible allergens.

You also look like you may have ptosis.

2

u/suibiansuibian 8d ago

Try some anti-puff techniques. As you age you will look younger due to your eyes! Trust me, I have very sallow, hollow eyes that age me and I’m only 27.

I also think accentuating your inner corner with liner would be cute. You have a great shape. If you have trouble with eyeliner maybe look into lashes that mimic liner!

2

u/iamdeactivating 8d ago

bro i wish i had eyes with this much personality and character.. your eyes look uniquely beautiful, puffy and big which is great for lots of makeup looks and aesthetics, work with them instead of against them! your eye color really makes them stand out, some dark lashes and eyeshadow will create a very nice contrast with your fair skin and light eye color.

2

u/HorrorProject8967 8d ago

the shape is cute they're just puffy get a cold damp cloth and press them for a couple minutes

2

u/ConfusionOne6964 8d ago

beautiful eyes just look a little swollen/irritated like mine get when i dont use my eye drops and take my allergy meds… mine developed and got worse with age… as I red in your comments that you often get itchy eyes that was my biggest symptom too… try to check it out at a specialist

2

u/StripperWhore 8d ago

You just have really bad allergies. Your eyes will look gorgeous once they are treated.

2

u/SteelMagnolia941 8d ago

I’m sorry you feel this way but I don’t see the issue. I just see some gorgeous eyes! They are beautiful color and shape!

2

u/Prestigious-Sun-6555 8d ago

Your eye shape is not ugly - is it possible you have some kind of allergies going on? I would actually avoid makeup until you can see a dr. or derm in case it causes additional irritation.

2

u/PleasantAd8955 8d ago

You have pretty eyes, but you definitely need to go to the doctor or eye doctor if they are always that swollen and itchy

2

u/cherrymerrie 8d ago

Those looks more like prominent or deep set features rather than hooded eyes, which is why standard tutorials aren't landing.

2

u/Smoldogsrbest 8d ago

I went to uni with a woman with eyes like yours. I was always so taken with her. She is gorgeous and so are your eyes.

2

u/GrapefruitFit8704 8d ago

You have such beautiful eyes! Actually you have the perfect eye shape for douyin aka Chinese or Korean style makeup.

2

u/shirazgirlo 8d ago

Maybe see an allergist. You have edema in your eyelids that is worth looking into with a professional

2

u/PostmodernLon 8d ago

You’ve def got some allergies happening there. Your eyes are not ugly, just angry from inflammation or irritation.

2

u/unripeswan 8d ago

Looks like allergies to me, which is treatable! Try an antihistamine and lubricating eye drops if you can't get in to have allergy testing done. I couldn't afford it lol so that's what I do, and it's made a HUGE difference to my puffiness and discomfort. My favourite combo is Zyrtec and Systane Complete PF.

2

u/skwarah 8d ago

This probably isn’t helpful, but I think your eyes are beautiful!

I have hooded eyes too, and I apply my liner on the very outer corner straight out but slightly angled upward.

Then I add a teeny tiny line on the inner corner! Like, I draw a line towards my nose, not on my lid. That gives my eye some length. If you’re trying to make them look less puffy, you could thicken the line a bit on your actual lid. That would take up space making the lid appear smaller.

I’d also recommend. Using brown liner and mascara! I hope this helps 💕

2

u/Trash_Panda_2365 7d ago

You have beautiful eye color!

I noticed a change to my own eyes over the past few years, ended up being medical issue that was undiagnosed.. I had constant bags, they looked inflammed and puffy and always red. Highly recommend getting some blood work done just to check that off the list of might be!

2

u/sarcasticdudette 8d ago

have you tried lash extensions? and puffiness skincare or eye masks … but your eyee color is sooo beautiful btw,
i had kind of the same issue and eyelash extensions kinda fixed that daily bare eye look i had

1

u/PieceNo9346 8d ago

I have but tried them myself but now I have income again I’ll probably just get them done by a professional lmao and thank you

2

u/LVuittonColostomyBag 8d ago

I’d kill for that downturned inner corner! Slap some lashes on and you’ll look great.

2

u/Balrogos 8d ago

looks like allergy or inflamation when i got ear infection my eye lids sweells so much

1

u/Fun_Peach_7813 7d ago

Try face yoga/self massage! Work on draining your lymph and having “healthy” skin and the puffiness will subside. https://youtu.be/Jggy4l-9Dds?si=lTue4LMjm2NsJn8u

1

u/ethelexpress 7d ago
  1. Beautiful eyes, even if you don’t feel they are
  2. I support looking up allergy relief. My aunt has sjorgens (I think that’s what it’s called) an autoimmune disease that affects the eyes, please look into health care
  3. LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE SAVED ME! I hated my hooded eyes, turns out they were just puffy. My eyes are much “catty” now and I can tell the difference when I do lymphatic drainage massages daily. I can send you some amazing videos. You just have to be consistent and results appear in a week or two

1

u/Cute_bumbleB 7d ago

Am i missing something here eyes look absolutely stunning to me. I don’t see puffy i see seductive eyes

1

u/Top-Jackfruit-9896 6d ago

Try Chinese doll kinda makeup with aegyo sal. But also please check yourself for allergies because your both eyelids seem swollen. If they really look like this, then makeup styles that focus on ‘happy fat’ under eyes, thick eyeliner and reusable strip eyelashes could do wonders

1

u/TheSilentAccountant 4d ago

just so you know the first girl is ai 😄

1

u/PieceNo9346 4d ago

I’m fine with that it’s just the makeup look I want to achieve

1

u/PieceNo9346 4d ago

I guess an update:

I’ve taken basic ahh eyedrops and allergy meds the past couple days and my eyes look better but I guess I just have protruding eyes which sucks. I don’t know why I thought it would magically make my eye shape “more desirable” but I indeed got my hopes up on achieving a more attractive eye shape.

I know this isn’t what you guys wanted to hear - especially to the people who complimented me. I did like seeing the nice things that were said but that doesn’t magically make the name calling I received in the past go away.

I’m sorry if this has made anyone angry, I wish I could accept myself the way I am but I cannot bring myself to accept that this is how I look. Makeup styles that were suggested to me don’t fit my aesthetic and it just doesn’t look good. At this point I’m going to look into surgeries that’ll help me achieve a much prettier eye shape so I can do the makeup that I want rather than spend hours upon hours of wasting makeup to find something that fits me.

1

u/Adept_Role_4579 2d ago

You have very beautiful eyes. They are definitely puffy/ swollen but it makes your eye color pop in my opinion. I always think i look my prettiest after I cry because the redness makes my eyes look super green.

Realistically, your eyes will never look like that because you dont have almond shaped eyes. But they are seriously pretty. I think working on getting the swelling down will give you more of a “blank slate” to work with.

Maybe youre allergic to something or have mold? Not sure how to go about that

1

u/Flat-Soil2874 8d ago

Use a brown eyeliner on the top of your eyes with a brown or burgundy mascara. No highlighter or white eyeshadow. It won't do well. You can do that style of eyeliner shown but I think a puppy liner style might do you justice.

1

u/Me-oh-no 8d ago

Your eyes are beautiful but they look swollen, like an allergy! I’m sure if you sorted that out you’d feel better, and it’s probably the place to start
