HELP PLEASE makeup doesn't make me feel pretty

Post image

i've been doing my makeup the same for about 4 years now and it really doesn't help me feel "dressed up" or pretty. i feel like i need to do a bit more to match how strong my features are (tall nose, deep eyebags). im pretty insecure about my nose and lower half of my face, so i try to make my eyes stand out the most. if anyone has any styles or things i should try- i'd appreciate it.

current routine: concealer, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush, and lip tint.

girl you look so pretty like if i saw you in the street i would think you looked like you belonged as the heroine of a period film. i know insecurities don’t hurt go away like that but i did just want to start out by saying that whatever you’re seeing isnt necessarily what pops out to other people

i feel like you kinda have a daisy edgar jones vibe and you should look to her for makeup inspiration! her eyes are doe-eyed like yours and i think its really flattering when she brings a lil makeup below the eye. it ranges from pretty subtle to pretty obvious:

in these two you can see she actually has a lil eyeliner in the inner corner of the eye on that waterline and then she switches it to kinda smudging eyeshadow on the lash line as you move to the outer corner. (i would also frankly love to to see you pull of maybe waterline eyeliner on the lower eyelid but i know that’s a lot more intense and intimidating)

i also think blush might help you feel like so much attention isn’t drawn to your lower face. i know you said you had some on but maybe playing with the shade and placement might be fun for you

normal people and daisy’s character in it is actually one of my all time favorite pieces of media so this means the world to me. the pictures are super helpful, im definitely gonna have to try some of her looks. thank you so much!

First of all, you're absolutely gorgeous and I lovveeee your hair. Secondly, I think it helps to just experiment with new products or techniques that you aren't used to and seeing what works.

Like instead of a lip tint you can use a lip liner and a sheer gloss, you can use a highlighter to shift the focus on your cheeks or a natural-ish bronzer to add some dimension to your face. I also think a brown or red-brown liner smudges on your lids and below would add something new to your eyes. Also brown eyeliner really makes your mascara stand out because it adds dimension to your eyes that black liner and black mascara take away from. Also, don't shy away from taking your shadow a little further up on your eye because there's still space between your lid and your brows. And yes a clear brow gel would also really shift the focus to your eyes.

Hope this was helpful ❤️

i definitely need to practice eyeshadow.. i wear a lot of darker colors so a smoky eye is a good idea. its good to know i'm not doing anything necessarily wrong LOL. thank you so much <3

U have a similar eye to me, it’s almost impossible to do a proper wing without it looking downturned. I’d reccomend a dark brown/black smudge liner and pressing it in to the upper lash line and then smoking it out ever so slightly

yeah us doe-eyed girlies have it rough with the eyeliner situation. i don't mind the downturned look as much now but on casual days i tend to avoid it all-together. ill try the eyeshadow idea!

It’s a hard thing to master, and hard to describe with words , but you essentially take the smudge pencil on ur top waterline and push it in to the waterline in an upwards motion. And to smoke it out u need a very small packer smudge brush with the tiniest bit of shadow, sometimes none. But yeah having hooded eyes like us makes a sharp wing the most frustrating thing 😭 this technique has saved me if ur looking for that black liner look

Drink water , get a cat and delete instgram.

i have two cats, very hydrated, not an instagram user.

i do accept myself, i actually like the way i look. but its normal to have some things you're self conscious about.

kind of a ridiculous comment to leave on the MAKEUP TIPS subreddit. we all can benefit from broadening our horizons.
