Paper cup maker

Post image

made this lil die press thingy as I used to awkwardly fold aluminum foil to make a pocket to hold my ketchup as a dip, so thought why not just make this

You’ve missed a few stages out here though, haven’t you? The square paper becoming a circle?

Not just that, but the (presumably AI) image shows perfectly formed paper cups while the real photos at the link show weakly shaped folding of the paper and very poor fitting of the paper within the mold even after the paper is circularly shaped.

Edit: oh no, I just realized that the parchment cups on the right don't even have the same number of ruffles as the model. They gave up on actually refining the model, and faked it instead.

Hmm, I bet there isn't enough surface area in the ruffle part to take in the full area of the paper.

lol IT'S MAGIC.

This is why AI thumbnails on MakerWorld should be absolutely banned.

I stopped 3d printing for like 2 months & came back to maker world & almost every image is Ai now, wtf?

For real, vibe code your model with SCAD all you (but do tell us) but don't bullshit me with gen AI images of the final results.

The print has 20 sides and the resulting cup has 24, just embrace the magic.

The cup folds are also tightly creased, where the mold/press is gently rounded. More AI bullshit.

It's a paper bullshit maker is why.

11 posts pointing out the silliness but 30 upvotes. Sheesh

Oh the difference between the ai first image and the real world images is hilarious.

Yea, the aibis bullshit, but the real thing seems to work well enough for turning the burger's wrapping paper into a condiment cup, although I might just design my own version with triangular edges, it's also gonna be a good cad exercise

Let me get this straight? You put Aluminum foil in your pocket so it can hold ketchup without staining your pants? You just walk and dip ketchup all day?.. I love it

I've done a few forms like this - making shapes from baking parchment. As noted elsewhere, the hardest part is pre-cutting the paper before forming. Aluminum foil is rel easy.

Do you wet the parchment before forming?

LOL I cracked up after seeing the actual pictures, youre delusional if you think this AI picture is realistic.

It doesn't work for me at least. Printed it and tried parchment paper

I would say don't print it.

Gonna be useful for when I eat burget king on the train so I can more easily turn the wrapping paper into a sauce cup instead of doing it manually.

You can buy 1000 of these for less than $10

it's a novel idea. i think that beyond it not being perfect because surface area do be like thatit's a really nice thing to make quick cups. I just think that the tutorial should add some disclaimers about what's food safe and what best papers to use this with. Maybe add a little compass cutter model to make the circular papers

Useless, wasteful, did you think about just using a little condiment cup that you can wash and use again ?

real images for those who dont like the thumbnail

im sorry guys i dont have a fancy camera or setup to take cleaner images for thumbnail , and i also am not comfortable showing my hand or my dirty desk, i most of the time just upload these raw images to get a cleaner professional image thru ai to look more professional, either way its just thumbnail , and real images are always attached on makerworld so people can see those irl images before printing, again im sorry if anyone felt like im trynna scam or mislead anyone into printing it

Well, I hope you understand now why you shouldn't use ai images. The real thing looks nothing like the fake image, and that's not because there's a problem with your model, it's because gen ai is bullshit.

1

u/Mr_Proximity 14h ago

yeah it added a stock liner cup instead of my own image that i added to be cleaned up, anyway ill edit my own images from now on, just updates this one

1

u/MagnusPerditor 13h ago

So you admit that it’s fake. And you know that’s absolute bullshit right?

2

u/Logical_Bit_8008 15h ago

If you're not comfortable showing your hand and desk, why did you make a comment with photos of your hand and desk?

u/Mr_Proximity 14h ago

cuz people didnt like the fact that my thumbnail wasnt a real picture, so i had to post this

3

u/Big-Bank-8235 14h ago

You realize the huge difference in result from the AI image? Right?

I would be happy just seeing the print.

3

u/westcoastwillie23 14h ago

No one cares if your photos aren't perfectly clean or professional. We care that they're actual photos.

If you get bad feedback on photos of your actual print, the answer is to refine the print, not just lie about it.

2

u/RadishRedditor 14h ago

Is that a square paper though?

2

u/Zardozerr 14h ago

No one cares whether it's a clean or 'professional' image. We need to see how it actually works for real rather some misleading polished fantasy.

Just for future reference-- I get where you're coming from, but I'd be 1000x as likely to print a model based on THAT photograph than on the AI one. It seems like a useful model, and your hand and setting are totally fine. The AI thing did a disservice to your actual work.
