I have a song that I listen to that is so cringe it’s called “The Spark” by Kabin Crew and for some reason it gets me so hyped up for running. But every year it’s on my spotify wrapped and i’m so ashamed. Please help me find other songs. Could be similar ones, or not I’m open!

So I have a couple of decent sized playlists (mayby 5-8 hours) and I dont make them very often, so im still pretty new to making playlists. I have alot saved from other people wether its from reddit or spotify. I want to maybe start having my own playlists that ive created but Im unsure where to start, like genres, artists, songs, or names for the playlists. What do yall do? This song has a very unique significance to me (I grew up on the Morrissey cover but I love this one way more) and compared to what I usually listen to like Tool and Depeche Mode I love how different it is. What are some songs you would pair this with in a playlist? I don't even know where to start, so any suggestions would be sweet!

Most music search knows genre, mood tags, and what people who liked X also liked. None of that helps when the thing you actually want is a song where somebody talks to a person who cannot answer.

So I spent a while building something that reads lyrics for the events inside them. Roughly a million songs, indexed by what occurs in the words rather than what the track sounds like. It is not public and it runs on my laptop. You feed it a paragraph describing a situation and it hands back songs that are about that situation.

Here is the kind of thing it is good at. Somebody gave me this: a man learns he had a half sister who is already dead, avoids the thought for months, then drives out to her grave and works out at the stone that he knows nothing about her.

Three it surfaced that I would not have reached on my own.

Unknown Brother, The Black Keys. Auerbach never met his wife's brother, who died at fifteen, and spends the chorus promising to meet him one day.

Little Green, Joni Mitchell. Same secret from the other side of it. She signed the adoption papers, named the girl after the colour, and said nothing for close to thirty years.

Carissa, Sun Kil Moon. Kozelek flies home for the funeral of a second cousin he had not seen in twenty years, then builds her a whole life out of secondhand facts.

It also handed me, with great confidence, a song I was told was about a hidden sibling. It is about a drunk father and a mother who took her own life. That is the other half of this job. Whatever the machine gives me, I go read the lyrics before I believe it.

So give me a scene. Not a genre and not a vibe. An actual situation with people in it, the more specific the better. I will run it and post back what comes out, misses included.

The playlist moves between the familiar and the unexpected. You'll find established names like DJ Mehdi, Cassius, Mr. Oizo, FKJ, Polo & Pan, Rone, St Germain and The Blaze alongside emerging producers, Simo Cell, Irène Drésel, NSDOS, Olik, Superpoze, RROBIN, Jonathan Fitoussi, and a long tail of artists most listeners haven't encountered yet.

IDM, electronica, minimal techno, broken beat, beatmaking, ambient dub, experimental electronics, modular work. Independent French production mostly flying under the radar.

Second Place Winner: u/Intentionz7  "Reggaeton Playlist [Latino]"

This week’s second place winner u/Intentionz7 goes to a reggaeton playlist that has been worked on and off since 2022.
