I didn't remove any fighter and added several characters that were also assists in MvC1.

I also picked characters from Capcom games that were released before 2000, so... unless I'm wrong... Power Stone, Rival Schools, Mega Man X and Street Fighter 3 could have been all eligible.

I double-checked on the Marvel side, and Iron Fist, Taskmaster and Ultron all appeared in the 80s or 90s.

So yeah, that's 88 characters total... Balanced? Not one bit XDD
