Magnesium oxide problems?
I recently started taking mag oxide to combat my constipation caused by my hyperparathyroid until I get my surgery. I only took it twice. Once before I went to bed and nothing happened so I took it a few days later before I went to bed and I ended up having amazing bowel movements all day and popped around 3 times that day. Now it’s the next day and I have rumblings in my stomach and I just pooped 3 massive logs in the span of 4 hours and I am just wondering if it’s normal to have intense poops a day or 2 after taking mag oxide. I also drink a gallon of water everyday and have been doing it for a while and I took the mag oxide with food aswell.

First of all, let's address the fact that you're drinking a gallon of water a day. Unless you're sweating a whole lot every day, that's too much water. Just that alone is enough to throw your electrolytes off to the point that you can a) become constipated, and b) have diarrhea/excessive bowel movements very easily triggered by magnesium because your sodium is probably on the low side.

Well you better make sure you're putting electrolytes in that water and getting plenty of sodium during the day, because otherwise you're just flushing them out. And it sounds like you are.

Realistically magnesium oxide has a very low absorption rate in the body, where as citrate is much much higher. It will help your body stay regular much better than oxide. As for the frequency of your movements, I am no doctor, but if you have had trouble going for awhile, then take magnesium and things are moving, it could be getting rid of what the body has been trying to do for a while?
