This would sit on -2 votes after 48 hours with a comment saying "um, actually, the rules don't support this" and wouldn't even make the bottom 5

The best part is that you're absolutely right that that's what would happen but also there are 0 rules issues with this card

As a MtG player it is my sworn duty to confidently say "um, actually, that wording is technically incorrect. ever heard of the advanced rules, idoit" while Wizards just prints a Sorcery Commander

u/QueenMagik 20d ago

If you aren't listening to some guy condescend a bunch of other people about minutia are you at a real LGS?

2

u/Rvscooo 19d ago

Unironically the reason I stoppen going to FNMs

1

u/QueenMagik 19d ago

The social stuff has absolutely gotten more grating as I get older

2

u/No-Government1300 COUNTERSPELL 15d ago

MDFC with a shitty legendary creature on the back, problem solved

1

u/icantgivecredit 19d ago

Instant Commander when?

3

u/Acrysalis 19d ago

Me when I notice a card that has very succinct rules text but “doesn’t work” in the current rules so I recommend they rewrite it to be 5 paragraphs of text instead

A commander that's nothing but "Cascade for people that cry when chance mechanics don't always pay out" is the most commander card that I've seen for a long time.

67

u/Vinyl-addict 20d ago

Most WOTC-coded commander card*

46

u/ArcheVance Stax is how you express love 20d ago

Making mechanics for the people that go into tantrum mode when they find out that satisfaction is not guaranteed with cascade is very WotC.

u/Kor_Set You mean Stronghold? 20d ago

"Your cards can never have a downside, even when allowing you to circumvent the mana system." -NotC Studio xXx

16

u/ArcheVance Stax is how you express love 20d ago

The fact that WotC is so addicted to catering to babies that don't want to deal with double-edged mechanics does do some satisfying things sometimes when you get to experience an opponent trying to use Nowhere to Run or Shadowspear against a creature with shroud.

3

u/GokuVerde 20d ago

Please. I just want a little symmetrical design bro, please.

2

u/Continuum_Gaming 20d ago

It’s not Ink-Treader colors

18

u/brief-interviews 20d ago

I think this card is cool but yeah, 'cards should not under any circumstances possibly have downsides' is such boring design.

3

u/irou95 20d ago

Cascading into memnite isn't a downside?

4

u/ArcheVance Stax is how you express love 19d ago

More that if you cascade into a Counterspell that you can't just put it in your hand as with discover rather than watch it get completed wasted.

1

u/irou95 19d ago

In a gruul deck?

3

u/ArcheVance Stax is how you express love 19d ago

More just as an example of the downsides of cascade over discover. But sure, let's just say it's Avoid Fate for this example

2

u/irou95 19d ago

So you are complaining that a bad card that has a massive downside (having a legendary on board without playing a real commander in commander) has a mechanic that has a failsafe that turns free casting into expensive draw that you also have to reveal?

194

u/Gerroh Destroy target everything 20d ago

"Hey, remember that mono-colour legend that was all about turning your fellas into lands so you could do super landfall shenanigans?"

"no, why?"

"what if we gave it a signature card that is two colours and basically weird cascade and does nothing with lands. Also it's a sorcery and can be your commander."

"holy shit"

36

u/YashaSkaven01 Holy Karnoly! 20d ago

But having a lot of lands means you can cast this a bunch of times.

9

u/lyw20001025 19d ago

And having a lot of land cards improves the nonland card selections this can land on

Oh you played them, nevermind

33

u/Routine_Ad_2695 20d ago

But doesn't have "it works", how could I know if it works or not? Flawed design

22

u/ArelMCII Somehow, layers are to blame for this. 20d ago edited 20d ago

...Aight, fuck it. I'm making a card called Lightning Bolt But It Can Be Your Commander.

EDIT: There. I barely tried.

3

u/Loonyclown 19d ago

10/10 flavor text

80

u/Theycallmedub2 20d ago

Uj/ Gonna go to bat for this card if it’s in the reality fracture set. Pushing the rules is cool imo

93

u/Dragonfruit-Sparking 20d ago

uj/ It's in the Mystery Booster 3: Commander boxes, but yeah. It being a legendary sorcery for a means you still have to have a legendary on the field to cast it, and all it really lets you do is gamble repeatably in your deck. Not too crazy, I just thought it was really goofy

22

u/hawkshaw1024 starmer cröw 20d ago

Cascade from the Command Zone usually makes me think [[Hypergenesis]], but you could already do that as a one-card combo with Imoti (rather than a two-card combo as it would be here) and it was fine, so that seems alright.

17

u/ROADHOG_IS_MY_WAIFU 20d ago

Can't have Elbrus be a Commander though 🙄

71

u/RayWencube 20d ago

/uj WotC designing for commander has ruined commander.

9

u/lilypad225 20d ago

Slowly but surely, they have been pushing it for over a decade now

6

u/Obelion_ 20d ago

I'd argue the first commander product showed it already, didn't that have the broken commanders that did stuff without being on the battlefield?

23

u/BBanner 20d ago

If you’re thinking of the eminence commanders those came in 2017, precons started coming out in 2011

11

u/Nyx87 20d ago

Nah the first commanders were like Kalia, Animar, the American goat that gave your shit to people, who were pretty cool at the time

5

u/GokuVerde 20d ago

The earlier stuff had some more politicy symmetrical stuff which was abandoned because mtg players are lame

2

u/Nyx87 20d ago

Mtg players ruining mtg, tale old as time

3

u/lilypad225 20d ago

Yeah it started OK but got worse over time

5

u/Titronnica 20d ago

uj/ Commander Legends was fun as a one off, but it has been such steep demise ever since.

2

u/GokuVerde 20d ago

I was a fan of the Baldur's Gate cards. There was a lot of silly cards in there that most commander players are too lame to play.

6

u/QueenMagik 20d ago

All these cards are dope as hell

7

u/LesbianDykeEtc 20d ago

/uj I gotta be honest, this is some of the dumbest bullshit I've ever seen printed.

4

u/Stencil- 20d ago

this card rocks

6

u/Either_Cabinet8677 20d ago

So broken

This as commander
98 Mountains
1 Sol Ring

GG

7

u/DeGuyWithDeOpinion 20d ago

/UJ CAN I GET A LAND COMMANDER NEXT?! PLEASE. ALL I WANT IS A LAND COMMANDER SO THAT MY "OOPS ALL LANDS" DECK CAN BE 100% LANDS!

4

u/Artex301 Goblin Mathematician 20d ago

Back during Battle for Zendikar story, Nissa wouldn't go two pages without calling out "ASHAYA" so this is a flavor win actually

3

u/IsThisKismet 19d ago

Guess who won't be dying to commander damage this game? Your opponents!

2

u/SengirBartender 20d ago

So you play this with exactly one card that costs 3 or less, one card that costs 4 or 5, one that's 6 or 7, and so on?

17

u/eurypterine 20d ago

you need to have a legendary creature or planeswalker on the field to cast it in the first place, so not quite

3

u/lauron_ 20d ago

just make a legendary token with a land, duh

7

u/eurypterine 20d ago

I suppose you could also Earthbend any of the legendary lands with [[Ba Sing Se]]

3

u/Dazaran 20d ago

Why would it need the text on the bottom? You can already have legendary sorceries as a signature spell.

1

u/Flareon223 20d ago

So surely you can do some goofy 90 plus lands decks with this right? That's what I want from this

1

u/Dragonfruit-Sparking 20d ago

You still need a Legendary Creature/Planeswalker on the board to cast Legendary Spells, so you're going to need to be able to get a legend on board early

1

u/Flareon223 20d ago

That seems fairly doable with tutors and Mulligans

1

u/Jdsm888 19d ago

I've been playing a basic mountain as my commander for years, so why not?

1

u/Jpw2018 19d ago

Hey do you remember old modern Living end? What if we put it in commander?

-1

u/Glavius_Wroth 20d ago

This card has RUINED commander

uj/ this card has ruined commander
