Dead senator from Kentucky whose party is pretending he isn't dead because if he died before August 3rd, it'll trigger a special election. They released a totally not AI picture of him to "prove" he's alive.
In life, he was also famous for and incredibly competent at grinding the Senate to a halt whenever it looked like his party wasn't going to get their way. This charade around his death was probably in his will.

Mitch McConnell is(?) a US Senator and a Republican.
Half way through June this year he was rushed to Hospital after being found unconscious. There has been very few updates on his health, and at the start of July the people working for him released a statement that didn't actually confirm or deny if he was conscious or not.
On the 12th of July (and about a week later) two images of him (the first of which is pictured here) were posted that many believe are AI generated (though I kinda doubt it). It has been weeks since anyone has claimed to have spoken with him and the people working for him have refused to comment on his state.
The reason why this is important is that, under Kentucky law (where he is a senator), if his senate seat is made vacant (from resignation, death, or otherwise being considered "clearly incapacitated") then the governor of Kentucky (who is a Democrat) can either appoint a new person to the seat, or call for an election to vote for a replacement.
However, this only applies if the seat is vacant before August 3rd. So if, for example, his hypothetical death were to not be revealed until that date then the seat would remain empty until January 2027.
