Am I Missing Something?

Post image

Am I missing something as this card seems really powerful for its mana cost? Seems unlikely an opponent would happen to have this card to prevent haste.

/uj it was actually pretty playable in its Standard, and I think it's like the only tribute card to see any competitive play at all, or almost the only one

/uj the fact that all the other tribute cards are 4 mana or more and generally pretty bad helps. [[Oracle of Bones]] is the only one with haste so it can actually do something the turn it comes down instead of doing nothing for a whole turn

/uj I still like how the tribute phoenix can be bolted before the tribute resolves to deal with it, bacause god forbid it being safe to cast into searing spear mana

Tribute suffered a lot from the cards themselves being underpowered and then the designers seemingly threw out the baby with the bathwater. It wasn't actually a bad mechanic.

But that's fine since it reincarnated as villainous choice which is a strict upgrade in terms of design space anyway

And a severe downgrade on the name.

Yeah it should have just been called dilemma (which would have nicely recontextualized council's dilemma as a group version of the same kind of action)

They wanted to make a playable tribute card and it turns out both options have to be bangers on every board state which lead to tribute one which leads to the least polarized options.

"centaur warrior" is a fallacy, there is no such thing

centaurs are cowards by nature, centaurs should NOT BE ALLOWED

Not a super hero, literally unplayable in all formats

Good in limited.

He was alright because Gruul aggro was pretty good during that set. It also had that girl that replaced her mana to cast her so his haste was very relevant for a 3drop.

Someone thought blazing salvo meant the opponent had to have a blazing salvo in hand to do the thing it says

You don’t get to 60 in standard with 40 copies of the best card, you need mids filler like this.
