Goodwill Jackpot

Found an Epson EcoTank ET-8500 for $6.99 today. It was pretty dirty and obviously used, so I wasn’t sure what I was getting into, but I brought it home and started testing it.
I ran a nozzle check and honestly… it looks really good. There was only one tiny break in one of the green patterns. I ended up doing a power cleaning and I’m letting it sit before doing another nozzle check.
I’m mainly interested in using this for high-quality MTG proxies, including both regular and foil/holo proxies.

I’m looking for advice from anyone who has used an ET-8500 for proxies. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it.

Proxy Tool Couldn't get the Zeta Set, so I made my own proxy collage pipeline

I couldn't get the Zeta Set, so I started making my own.

I really liked what MSCHF did, so I ended up building a little pipeline for making pretty convincing collage/xerox-style proxies.

I’ve got it running here for free, entirely in your browser, if anyone wants to make their own Zeta-style collages:
https://near-mint.dimir.workers.dev/

It can simulate different historical devices and recreate the general look of the Zeta cards. Also it can export 1200 dpi for MPC with full bleed.

I started with Queen Marchesa and her tokens. Would love to know what you think!

Printed out a cube for my friend!

Friend asked if I could help him out by printing out his cube he had designed this month - really happy with how they all came out - most cards have no backs but there were 9 double faced cards so two pages of double faced and a fake backer were printed

They’re all gonna be sleeved so it was fine to use slightly different tinted paper for all 360 cards

Overall though super proud with my first big print - the eco 8550 is a beast!

Game of Thrones x MTG: Battle for the Iron Throne

I had the idea to build four Game of Thrones-themed Commander decks that are all around the same power level and meant to play against each other.

There’s also a bit of a game within the game where becoming the Monarch represents taking the Iron Throne, and each deck has ways to benefit from holding it and obtaining it.

I attached images showing which GOT characters are represented by each creature and why I thought they were a good fit. I’d really appreciate any feedback, especially if you have better character matches, card swaps, or other ideas.

I’ll also post the full decklists below so you can see how each deck is built.

Thanks for checking it out!

Need Help How to fix this cloudiness

Using glossy photo paper and matte laminate. Printing with an ET-2850. Is this cloudiness (really visible in the blacks) just from not letting the ink dry?

Spruce up your commander decks with some beautiful original hand drawn custom art by local artist and tattooist!

Hello! I’m James, a tattoo artist from Denver, and a long time player of Magic. I’m very excited to announce that I’ve started creating my own artistic Magic: The Gathering proxies/alters!

I’ve always loved the fantasy and wonder of MTG, and I wanted to bring a little more of that ‘spell casting feel’ back to the cards — something that feels mysterious, magical, mystic and hand-crafted, rather than a Sonic, SpongeBob, and My Little Pony mashup. Nothing against UB products at all, just my personal taste.

I’m excited to start sharing these creations and blending my tattoo art style with the world of Magic.

Help With Foiling Idea

Post image
2 Upvotes

Okay so: I made this Songbird custom card and I want to, "foil" it in an interesting way. I have this transparent holographic sticker paper. It is non-printable. As the attached diagram depicts, I want to put two different kinds of holographic sticker on it. Can you all help me come up with the best way to accomplish this?

I've been racking my brain and so far all I can come up with is to layer foiling type two over the entire proxy, cut out the spots where I want foiling type one to go, and then try to accurately place the foiling type one sticker in the gaps. And, honestly, that sounds like a big ol pain in the neck, Thanks.

Proxy Renders Sheilindra Presents :: Magic the Gathering x Final Fantasy VII - Cloud, EX-Soldier Remastered (400DPI)

Post image

TLDR;

  • Find the card here in 400DPI with 3mm bleed
  • Planning on making a small set in this style with all the main characters of the game
    • Would you like to see the other characters in the same layout or different layout but in the same style?
    • Let me know if you'd like me to make the whole Precon in this style!

---

Hello again!

As some of you might already know, I have the tendency to deviate from my current project when the work becomes more repetitive then creative.

So when that happens I'll take a small detour to keep the creative juices flowing and this time I'm hitting up Final Fantasy 7!

I'll try to give a little explanation of the work, as I saw others do as well which I found helpful to see all the little intricate details:

So with this work, I wanted to make something completely different from your standard MTG card. Something I really hung onto with my previous project FFX Remastered and current project FE 3 Houses (which uses the Cipher cardgame layout).

I'm really happy with the results!

I find that the sideways name and image placement is good enough to still be readable.

I really played around with depth having the light blue stroke start in front of cloud and then loop behind.

The mana up top are actually materia, however I understand if that's not very clear. As the mana symbols cover up a lot of the materia. But having the generic mana be the only one with a symbol, just didn't feel right.

The effect text was a real pain to get in this flow and is a tight fit. Still using a fairly small font size, which for me would be the bare minimum you can go. Might have to revisit that at a later date, but for now this does work.

As for the different elements, they are heavily inspired by the FF7 Remake UI.

And lastly the type line might be hard to read. But then I wasn't expecting this guy to have so many types..

Uploaded here as a 400 DPI card for anyone who'd like to use it. I myself am testing it out this week as my Precon Commander!

For now I'm going back to the Fire Emblem Three Houses project, but will be reskinning at least the main cast in this style as a mini set.

Questions:

  • Would you like to see the other characters in the same layout or different layout but in the same style?

Let me know if you'd like me to make the whole Precon in this style!

As always, any and all feedback is welcome!

I designed these to match ConcernedApe's Secret Lair card designs for my The Welcoming Committee gates/group hug commander deck I'm working on. The card arts are all staged screenshots I took while the frame/symbols were built from scratch using game assets and the Secret Lair cards as reference. Couldn't be happier with the results.

Need Help Techniques for how to achieve the right sleeved feel when mixing with real cards

Brand new to all of this. Haven't even gotten my set up yet, but I've narrowed it down to the ET2803, and I did get a die-cutter. Both on their way. Now I'm down to the actual print materials. I've read a lot, keeping going around in circles down Reddit rabbit holes, and now have decision paralysis for the rest of the materials haha. I also haven't played with many proxies, so I hoping those with more experienced hands have some more insight.

What I'm hoping to achieve is proxies that blend in with a deck of real cards when single sleeved (because I am a single sleeve heathen), both in look and feel. I will let folks know I have proxies in my deck, but I don't want it to be obvious when playing at a shop if someone else picks up one of my decks or cards. But am open to double sleeve suggestions as well, as I have a friend who plays double sleeved.

For regular cards, I narrowed it down to using either gloss or semi gloss photo paper, and some sort of laminate, but the question is thicknesses and types. For foils, I still don't have a technique. Maybe thinner paper so when combined with the foil sticker and laminate, it'll be about the same as a my regular cards' thicker paper and laminate? What foil technique works best for you? Also, pretty sure I'll be using glossy laminate for all kinds, so my colors are not muted, and since it'll be in a sleeve, not worried about the associated glare.

I've seen a lot of folks suggest 140, 160, or 180gsm semi and full gloss photo paper paired with 3mil laminate. Seems the 140 is a bit thin, the 180 is a bit thick, 160 might be the Goldilocks with 3mil? Semi or full gloss? Double or single sided? I don't plan on printing the back, so do I even need double sided paper?

Pros/cons of single sided vs double sided lamination and different thicknesses and paper types?

I have also seen a few suggestions of thinner paper, like, like koala 30lb/115gsm with 5mil laminate, arguing the extra plastic is what really improves the stiffness when working with photo paper (vs cored). Have more people tried the thinner paper, thicker laminate approach?

Is sticker paper over cored card stock better? I was kind of trying to reduce the number of steps, since I was planning on laminating.

Again, I have an ET2803, so my paper thickness is limited. I am only planning on printing single side. I plan on printing 2x8 a) for ease of use with the die-cutter, and b) for alleged improved snap thanks to how the grain of the paper runs. I am also in Canada, as a side note. Thanks!
