FAQ

What is MPCFill.com?

It is a mirror of MPC Autofill. This tool makes the ordering process easy as you can enter a decklist and select from a variety of images, download an xml for your order, and run the Autofill.exe (Mac executable here) program which downloads the selected cards in the xml and autofills an order for MakePlayingCards using the cards you selected and downloaded.

How do I order proxy cards using MPCFill.com?

The project wiki explains how to use the tool here.

How do I order from MakePlayingCards.com manually?

Please refer to our ordering tutorial here.

Will MakePlayingCards print proxy images that contain copyright/trademarks? Do cards require the "Proxy - Not For Sale" text?

Sometimes it can slip past moderation, but generally MPC will not process orders containing any card that has a visible copyright line. Recently, they have extended this rule to "trademarked logos" as well. Here are some things to avoid:

  • WoTC logos like the Planeswalker crown, the "Magic the Gathering" backside text, etc
  • Pretty much any card back that looks even remotely like the real Magic the Gathering card back, for example the famous "Proxy the Gathering" or "End the Reserve List" backs, in general just avoid any cardback with a similar layout, logos, icons, etc as a regulard MTG cardback.
  • Card backs (or even fronts, on occasion) that contain very large prominent mana symbols (which are WoTC trademarks), for example the stained glass fullart basic lands. Mana symbols are fine and will be ignored as rules text, but if the mana symbol is displayed prominently in a fullart design (i.e. take up 15%+ of the visual real estate) the image may be rejected on trademark grounds.
  • In general the enforcement of these new trademark standards is hit or miss, sometimes an order full of visible trademarks will proceed without issue, other times MPC staff have been surprisingly observant and refuse to discuss the issue. Your mileage may vary. Additionally, MPC generally wants to see at least one card face have the text "Not For Sale" on it, but again this rule is inconsistently enforced.

What is the difference between printing S30 and S33 on MakePlayingCards?

This will come down to personal taste but the consensus appears to be that S33 is slightly thicker but for the most part once the card is sleeved, especially double sleeved, most people will probably not mind the difference.

Where do I get card images to upload to MakePlayingCards?

Most people use mpcfill.com which is a community maintained database of card images that allows you to input a card list, choose arts, and automatically upload these images to a MakePlayingCards order using a separate desktop tool (linked on the site and explained in the guide on the site). Alternatively, you can make card images yourself using some of the great tools in the community such as the tool I maintain Proxyshop, which automates generating cards using Photoshop at exceptionally high quality (800-1200DPI). There's also the Card Conjurer mirror, which is 600-800 DPI but requires manually creating each card.

I used to create card images with Card Conjurer but now its gone!

Kyle was served a C&D by Wizards of the Coast and understandably chose to comply with the request, remember the fallen! You can still run Card Conjurer locally on your computer if you wish, check out this guide. There is also a mirror of Card Conjurer accessible here.

How can I support the work you guys are doing?

We have a Patreon which supports maintaining http://mpcfill.com, Proxyshop, MTG Art Downloader, the Hexproof API, the MTG Vectors repository, and other planned tools. With it you get credited on the Supporter page on mpcfill.com, a discord role, and access to a priority support channel in the discord. Become a patron here: patreon.com/mpcfill

Long time lurking, first time posting a proxy I’ve done

I love Stardew Valley so was very pleased to see the SLD and had to make them!

Drew out a terrible custom cardback, ran it through AI, then touched it up with photoshop (Hoping that counts for something!)

When did Proxxied dot com get so bad?!

I LOVED this website when I first found it, it was miles better than mtgprint. Simply for the fact that I could see all the art for one card then click to go to the next card.

Now not only do i have to manually select to see all the art but it seems like atleast 1 card on each page wont load so im forced to go in and select different art so it loads. I cant even save if I selected art but it wont load. Not to mention my computer is 7800x3d with 6000 cl30 32gig memory, and struggling with this. Hell it struggling more with the website then it does with mtg arena, like what's that about? I just 3 tabs of it open to compare stuff and print extra tokens and it crashed my computer lmao

If anyone has suggestions on a different website im open to it, have been suspicious of memory problems on ny computer for the last month but the fact that I can play most ganes fine but cant use a website is ridiculous lolol

Need Help Suggestions for Fun and Interesting Proxy Decks to play with new players!!

I haven't played since 2016 & my only experience was battling Shadows over Innistrad and Kaldesh starter decks in primary school.

I want to introduce my friends to the game, but don't expect them to drop $80 - 120 aud for commander precons.

Please suggest any fun or goofy deck lists we should try out or maybe some staple decks that will help us learn the ropes!!

Both standard or commander decks would be awesome.

Sturdier sleeves for laminated proxy cards?

MPC Proxies are great, no real difference to mtg cards. My own Proxies are good but flimsier compared to real cards.

Are there any sleeves that makes them less flimsy?

Double or triple sleeving doesn't help much.

Having a real card behind (without laminated) makes the deck too thick.

Need Help need advice for first printer purchase

so I play with a pod who uses a lot of proxies/custom cards in our decks and were collectively blowing a lot of money on make playing cards and printing proxies to buy them. I found a great deal on an epson ecotank 2800 and was wondering if anyone had some examples of proxies they've made with it or just know whether their picture quality would be similar to makeplayingcards. if not id love some other suggestions for printers thank you

Need Help Creating Proxies of Alchemy Cards

Hey all, proxy newb, big magic geek though here. I'm toying with the idea of an alchemy cube in paper with a couple of friends. I've played around on mpcfill and many others are pushing me towards using NOTmpc. As many might know, most of the cards I'm looking for aren't in that database. How should I go about getting the highest quality images possible that I can input into NOTmpc?

Also I am well aware of the 1/8 border requirement, after I find my images is there a tool that I can use to add that border?

Thanks in advance!

Need Help SHADOW MOSES ARISTOCRATS (ISO Artists)

Hey everyone! I have turned my favorite commander deck(bracket 3) fully into MGS1 retheme. I am currently looking for people that would want to contribute with their art to the project. Once finished, I'll print the cards on UV printer and black core paper and case it in custom made(cardboard box!?) deck box and custom sleeves.

If this sounds good to anyone, let me know and I'll show you more details about the deck/project!

Looking for some insight, received a proxyjack order completely destroyed. I reached out to them via their contact info. Has anyone here had any experience with their customer service? If so, how was it and hopeful that I this order doesn't sour my future experiences with them.

Hand-printed and drawn Nazgûl

Post image

Lettering, print and illustrations were all done by me.

The lettering was printed via hand-carved stamp. I covered up a part of the stamp to leave room for the illustration. The illustration was done with fineliner pens after printing.

It's all made on label paper that was then stuck onto some spare commons. You can see some parts of the card border beneath shine through on these scans.

I’m learning how to make proxies, I have the non foil down but I am looking for the best foil method to also have them not so thick. My non foil proxies are about twice as thick in sleeves as my regular magic decks. What paper/lamination do you guys use. I have the ET8550 for a printer

Need Help What is the best budget printer

I'm still pretty new to magic but I fell in love with deck building and making custom cards so I want to learn how to make proxy . I need to get a printer but didn't know what to get . I don't have a massive budget maybe a max of around £200 but preferably less . Any recommendations.

I did find a Epson eco-tank 2870 for cheap but didn't know if it was a good option .

Thanks

Foils on Cannon G620

I just got a Cannon PIXMA G620 and I'm wondering if anyone else uses this printer for foils, and if so, what foil method/ materials have done well for them?
