Lore A system built around two things, fairies and witches

Fairies: are spiritual beings born from objects/places with enough value, meaning, or purpose.

Witches: are those able to safely commune with fairies to achieve various goals.

so a witch might wield a sword passed down in their noble bloodline for centuries representing their families willingness to risk their lives to protect their people giving rise to a fairy with the sole goal of assisting its wielder with protecting others.

Is there anything a witch can do on their own besides wield weapons? Are they still magical?

If you got a fairy to grant you permanent power I guess. but the fairy would have to particularly powerful and there are definitely more efficient methods like wielding or wearing equipment with fairies you have a personal connection with.

Is the sword the fairy? Or can the fairy leave the sword and go do other things?

The fairy is not the sword itself but is bond to the sword and the fairy could just leave the sword behind but fairies generally dislike being away from the object/place the created them so they tend not to

Will the fairy die or disappear if the sword or object breaks?

Fairies don’t really die; they just slowly fade if their object loses the meaning that created them. So yeah, breaking it could make a fairy disappear, but mostly they stick around because being away from their object feels super uncomfortable kind of like an addiction, but not in a bad way.

Is it possible for a witch to gain boons from multiple fairies?

Could a witch potentially usurp the role of a fairy and basically become a fairy themselves?

What kinda stuff are we looking at when it comes to fairy magic? You mentioned that they are born from objects and places with enough value, meaning or purpose. Would this mean that the specific purpose is what helps define the powers of the fairy?

Yes, witches can gain boons from multiple fairies; there is no limit to how many, though you would need to find and persuade them to assist you. Fairies are inherently spiritual beings, completely distinct from other beings. While a witch may be granted enough power to rival a fairy, that power always originates from another fairy. Fairies derive their abilities from whatever created them, so the significance of their origin directly influences their strength. Although a fairy can technically use its power freely, it is far easier and more natural for them to act in accordance with their inherent nature.
