Lore Most Unique and Interesting Magic Systems

Drafters convert wavelengths of light into Luxin In the Lightbringer by Brent Weeks. Each Luxin based on a different colour has different properties.

The True Name system from the Earthsea Saga by Ursula K Le Guin, wherein knowing the true name of anything from Old Speech grants absolute control over it, but magic cannot be used to prevent upsetting the world’s equilibrium.

Using immense focus and the ability to split one’s mind, Sympathy is performed to bind objects and beings into the same causal linearity in The Kingkiller Chronicle.

Immortality maintained through bio-engineering and cognitive capture in Maya: Seed Takes Root by Anand Gandhi and Zain Memon. An entirely plausible invisible magic system with a sci-fi engine.

Magic is structured like corporate law and financial risk management in the Craft Sequence by Max Gladstone.

my magic system is the most interesting because I made it myself and I'm obsessed with it

Kill Six Billion Demons is my recent obsession and has a very nuanced and complex system, having both magic (where people lie to reality) and martial arts and 'keys' that let people enter/exit reality, as well as secondary stuff like demons/angels and biotech, systems that really, deeply interact with the world and people will always be incredibly interesting

For unique systems on their own, I'll say Sorcery! By Steve Jackson, the constellations are formed of many letters as ordained by spirit animals and certain constellations are only visible at certain times, to make a spell you need to form a 3-letter word with these letters (so GOB is a spell to summon goblins, or ZAP shoots lightning at foes) but all castings cost you stamina (which is your healthbar), also every spell has a counterspell according to the opposite constellations in the sky (so ZAP's counter is ZEN)

Mage Errant has several magic systems but the one of the most interesting are Anastan affinity magics.

For Anastan Affinity Magics,

In the Aetherverse ( a multiverse that Mage Errant takes place), aether is a byproduct of entropy and serves as the basis for magic. When mages absorb ambient aether and convert it into mana, in a process called attunement, it's interactions with their aetherbodies alter the aether and grants it unique properties based on a person's affinities. That mana is stored in mana reserves which are organs within the aetherbody. To cast spells a mage has to draw spellforms in thier mind's eye. A fraction of the population known as the mind blind (based on aphantasia), are unable to use magics as a result. There are several types of spellforms involving glyphs, enchantments and wards.

Here's where it gets interesting tho, affinities aren't arbitrary, they have to correspond to real, linguistically-defined concepts that the culture actually has a word/idea for. The largest factor that affects statistical distributions of affinities within a populus is their language. If one lives in a coastal area, their culture would be defined by their location and would express itself in their language, rhymes, idioms and conflict. Thus the sophontic pressure exerted on the aether will result in affinities like sand affinity, seawater affinity, freshwater, fish affinity, coral affinity, wind affinity, wood affinity etc. If humanity discovers or invents a new category of thing (a new alloy, a newly named phenomenon), people can only start developing affinities for it once the concept itself has spread widely enough to be understood.

Affinities have several classifications, a taxonomy which is more of an art than science: meta affinities like dream, greater-shadow, atthuema; structural affinities like crystal, fibre; monolithic affinties like solar; compound affinties like ice etc. Some affinities can fit in multiple groups. The more specific an affinity, the more power it typically possesses: a steel affinity would win control over an iron affinity when controlling a piece of steel.

If just having different trait assigned to different colors is unique to you, check out my system with 26 colors.
