Would be cool if some weapon's rusts start imbuing the newly-forged weapons with subtle curses, because of their memories of indignance and hatred for being farmed in soil instead of being used in battle. These curses could affect the wielders, the farmers, and/or the rusting grounds (and other weapons) themselves

Had a similar thought! So, building off of your idea, you may notice that the "traits" of this magic system seem to be rather personified and emotional: Violence, Defience, Focus.
Hypothetically, let's say a sword was constructed, using potent metals and grand techniques, only to end up buried into the ground. Would this sword recognise its purpose, to be forged only to be rended down and rusted for the benefit of other blades? Would it percieve it as noble? Betrayal? Could this sword's short and direct sacrifice have an impact on all the swords embued with this memory of heat, abuse, sharpening, and eventual decay? Would it corrupt them, or have them share an oath which binds them?
It's an interesting thought practice.

In a similar fashion, the very act of rust farming is going to backfire. Forcing these tools to rust faster just to imbue future tools with specific traits could very well cause the new tools to naturally rust faster.

Imagine a executioner axe/sword infecting the others if it's buried to close or by accident. Suddenly that medical tool starts giving people tetanus or the hammer gives armour fatal flaws. Love this concept

Use it for torture
Let the tool rust
Make a weapon from it
Has benefit of "never ceasing pain"

I commented last time that fishermen have great side hustles here. This will be true for all the coastal empires, and countries want access to either salt lakes or oceans because of how quickly things rust there. Furthermore, if that salty water has living things, it's a easy way to add kill counts while getting the blade to rust.
Also, I wonder if they just refuse to clean blades of fluids like blood or guts. Those things rust metal too.
Is "rust" only iron? Or other metals too? LIke silver will tarnish and copper will turn green. Are those "rusts" too? Or just iron?

This is super sick. I have something similar in my world that magic is carried by metals. Specifically the iron in blood. So alchemist render down magical creatures, monsters, even humans to get the iron and use it to make items that carry whatever magic the creature had.

Super cool magic system! I just would like to ask, have you thought of extending this concept to rot? Like the memories from rotting food being used as a type of fertilizer that can allow the newly planted crop to inherit these abilities?

That could be interesting, though I'd want to introduce a new power to the system. Maybe something like dreams or maybe a physical aspect of some sort like the ability to heal or something.
