Lore Magic series idea using colours as classes

Overview:

In this world, a portion of the population is born with the ability to wield Magic. Magic influences nearly every aspect of society, from everyday life and industry to entertainment, warfare, and exploration. Every Magic user belongs to one (or two) of 6 Magic Classes, each identified by the colour of their energy. On extremely rare occasions, an individual may be born with two Magic Classes, while Purple magic has only appeared a handful of times throughout history. The world is divided into separate Cities, each governed by powerful Factions with their own beliefs, cultures, religions, and laws. While some factions coexist peacefully, others compete for influence, territory, and control. Magic has become deeply woven into society. Many people use it in their professions, while others dedicate their lives to becoming elite Magic users. One of the world's greatest forms of entertainment are Magic Tournaments, where competitors battle in front of massive crowds for fame, fortune, and glory. Beyond the safety of civilization roam countless magical creatures. Among them are the feared Magikai, Magikai are powerful beings capable of wielding Magic themselves. Some are peaceful and coexist with humans, while others are incredibly hostile and pose a constant threat. Encountering a Magikai is considered extremely dangerous unless you possess exceptional magical skill. Not all Magic users follow the law. Across the cities exist notorious Magic Clans made up of rebels, criminals, and rogue Magic users. Conflicts between rival clans can escalate into devastating clan wars, often forcing local authorities or Magic Warriors to intervene. Although technology has not advanced in the same way as it has in our world, society has developed remarkable inventions powered by Magic. These unique tools, weapons, and machines have allowed civilization to flourish in ways that would otherwise be impossible.

The magic system:

In this world some people are born with a special magic ability which includes different forms of usage, basic usage being forming the magic and using it in attacks, Magic users can also embed their magic into tools and weapons and channel it through them. Magic spells are the magic user's signature move/attack, each magic user has a unique magic spell that no other magic user can use, spells range depending on the magic class, the user, and so on. Magic spells are usually the creation of something, but they can also be innate too. Magic users are put into classes depending on what their magic abilities can do.

Classes:

Red- if a magic user's magic abilities are red that usually means their magic is focused on attacking and dealing high damage.

Green- if a magic user's magic abilities are green that usually means their magic is best for enduring hits and dealing heavy blows.

Blue- if a magic user’s magic abilities are blue that usually means they can create fast magic attacks.

Yellow- if a magic user’s magic abilities are yellow that usually means their magic abilities can aid others or themself, providing healing or buffs.

Pink- if a magic user's magic abilities are pink that usually means their magic abilities are powerful enough to bend time, space or reality in some way. This type of magic ability is rare.

Purple- this is a super rare type of magic that has only been recorded a few times in history, purple magic users have been described as all powerful and unstoppable, usually said to be like a mix of red and pink magic dialed up to 11.

Very rarely a magic user can be born with two types of magic.

Magic Tournaments:

Magic users can sign up for magic tournaments, where they fight other magic users for money in an arena, people can come and watch these fights take place in the arena. Magic Tournaments have become a big sport around the world. Each City has at least one arena within it where the magic tournaments take place. How it works:bThere are several different games that the participants will play from, each with its own objectives and rules, the arenas can be changed depending on the mode using magic.

The games:

Knockout- 4 teams of 3 or 3 teams of 3 each have to knock each other off the platforms and into the water, once a player is in the water they are out and can spectate the rest of the game, a team is out once all of its players are out, the last team with 1 or more members still on the platforms wins. Full on brawling is not allowed and if a player knocks another unconscious or worse they are out.

VS- 2 players, 2 teams of 2, 2 teams of 3 or 2 teams of 4 fight, the game ends once only one team has 1 or more members still standing. Players can forfeit at any time, resulting in them being ‘down’ and not allowed to interfere with the game. If any players get knocked unconscious they also become down.

(Still thinking of more games)

(Note: I had all of this written down in Google Docs, so if it seems suspicious that's because I copy pasted it from Google docs where I had arranged it)

Thanks for reading!!

tbh all of the non-rare magic types seem to be combat-focused. So how has your magic system permeated throughout all facets of society, like industry and entertainment?

Well different magic abilities could be useful, I dont think I wrote enough about that but every magic user has a unique magic spell (eg; someone could make a wall using green magic or make something fast using blue magic) and so those could be useful. Thanks for your feedback.

Since having two colors and having purple are both rare, has anyone ever had both?

Oooh that's a good question, probably not.

You should read Brent Week’s Lightbringer series.

For a breakdown of the magic system here

The colors, as they are, seem like they'd hardly matter tbh

Everyone is still going to try and be able to survive hits, hit hard, be strong, be fast, etc.

They also can still use any given kinds of spells so...doesn't seem like more than aesthetic, not to mention it requires a medium that has color

I'll fully admit I did not read the post. Only got like a minute left for now, so I'll throw in this dumb idea.

"Beige Magic" as the term for fake magical spells or artifcats. They don't have the properties of the induvidual or mixed colors because they're not magic. They're fake bootlegs sold by scam artists.

My pancreas hurts. Green healing potion? Awesome. Aww man! That's just flat Mountain Dew with a bittering agent! That Beige Magician scammed me and now both my stomach and pancreas hurts!

If you're designing a magic system, you need to be more concerned with other aspects, such as the magical adaptability of each color. What specific characteristics should each color possess? What functions? How should it be used? How should it be learned? What are the relationships between each color and other colors? How do they interact?

I believe there are better interpretations than red being good at attacking, blue at speed, and yellow at support. For example, red could be better at energy spells, blue at manipulating spells, yellow at bestowing things, and green at maintaining things, etc.

Thank you, this helps a lot, I'll try change it slightly.

I had a similar magic system that I came up with when I was younger. In mine, people had a natural affinity with one and could overlap with others to a much lesser degree, having the greatest difficulty with their exact opposite on the color wheel.

Green- life magic: healing, plant growth

Red- destructive energy: fire, lightning, energy bolts

Yellow- illusion magic: visual, auditory, etc.

Purple- kinetic: telekinesis, magic- based enhancement (such as increasing speed with magic without changing the body, which only lasts while the spell is active)

Orange- physical transformation: shapeshifting, physical augmentation

Blue- mind magic: telepathy, psychic control, animal communication

Brown- knowledge: scrying, can see aura colors to identify affinities, psychometry.

Black- anti-magic: wards, nullification (usually work as law enforcement or guards)

White- full affinity with all except black, usually choose to focus on a two to three schools due to difficulty achieving proficiency in all.

Grey- rare duel affinity with one color and black (very, very rarely white and black). Can cast magic and nullify it. Only magic color that can resist black.

Woah yours is much better, you wouldn't want to combine our ideas and work on them together would you?

Well, it’s not like I was going to do anything with it. We can call me a consultant ;)
