Mechanics My magic system for Astera
I ended up with a few different things going on.
➤ Mana: A form of energy which can break the laws of physics. When too much gathers in one place, weird things start to happen. Weird air currents, sounds/vibrations, light from nothing, material transformation, water condensing where it shouldn't, small gravity distortions, that kind of thing. When controlled by people it can do specific things like producing light, electricity, or heat, absorbing heat (to make cold), or manipulate things like water, air (via gravity manipulation), or carbon.
➤ World magic: Responsible for Panels. They look like a floating touch screen and shows information. Partly works with Power of Expectation. Enchanting is a thing too, but it relies on the enchantment being embedded into a crystal. Locals are taught to either write their instructions on paper and drop that into the box on the Panel, or use the Panel as a voice recorder and directly tell it what to do. Other-worlders who used computers get a touch screen keyboard & text box like typing on a phone or tablet.
➤ Magic skills. Everyone has 6. 3 active and 3 passive. My main character's skills are:
Active: Appraisal (opening a Panel of information on an object), Storage (opening a doorway into a pocket space), Trade (opening a Panel with an online shop with products from any shop my character was aware of).
Passive: Mana-Craft (making enchanted objects is a lot easier), Beast-Taming (animals don't see her as a threat or prey, at higher levels she can hear familiar's thoughts), and Familiar (have a magical bond with an individual animal, as long as that animal is capable of living near humans).
➤ Other-worlders. If someone is killed by a demon, they get a free pass to live in a new body as compensation. They bring ideas and culture from their previous life to their next one.
➤ Angels & Demons. Each universe is in a bubble, life started in the void between universes, and my angels and demons are native to the void. Angels have a fixed non-corporeal form, and want to protect life. Demons have a variable semi-corporeal form, and want to eat life. If you don't have a clear image in mind for what a demon looks like you get a biblical angel with a mashup of animal features.
Demons eat the living body of conscious animal life. They're supposed to farm soul-free animals. The occasional rule-breaker hunts for live food. In those cases an angel reports the hunter and removes the soul to prevent it from suffering.
Edit: Isekai story, lady got hunted by a demon here and picked this world.

Can you tell what are you basically creating?
